Just opened - need some guidance after dumping gunk into pool

My winter cover was a nightmare to get off this year. Lots of water and green pine needle gunk ended up in the pool. Prior to removing the cover, the water didn't look too bad. After a few days of running the pump, brushing, and vacuuming the junk out, I took my first set of readings. I have...

Pool opening - new liner/new water ... advice needed

Thanks. My pH test showed 7.4 (but my test kit is a few years old). Pool shop was 8.4.

Pool opening - new liner/new water ... advice needed

My pool liner was not supposed to be installed for a few more weeks...but it happened this week. I completed filling the pool yesterday. I began running the pump yesterday as well. I'll keep it running 24/7 for the time being. I kept putting off buying the appropriate test chemicals thinking I...

First Test Results of the Year

I have the CYA up to 45ish...may have put a bit too much in the sock. For good measure, I raised the FC to shock level (18ppm)...and it held steady overnight. CC is .5. Water looks pretty good...but I'll continue to keep an eye on things. PH is up to 7.5. So...about the elevated TA...since...

First Test Results of the Year

Filled pool Saturday/Sunday. Vacuumed yesterday afternoon. Pump has been running ever since. I can see the bottom, but water is not crystal clear. Do I need to raise the PH or am I good? If so, what is good to use? TA has always been high...I don't think I've ever been able to get it under...

First test of the year...looking for guidance

Been real hot and sunny the past 4-5 days. I've been good to keep the FC around 5-7...then 3 days ago it was 3ish. Today when swimming, I can still see the bottom well, but I can tell something is off...even my 13 year old noticed the water was not as clear as it normally is. I brought the...

First test of the year...looking for guidance

Do you mean in the city water supply? If so, I'm not sure. Never had an issue before. The liner is older...close to 10 years.

First test of the year...looking for guidance

No, very little debris in the pool. The cover did its job. The only thing different this year was the water loss due to the leak. On a side note, I did decide to do a SLAM to be on the safe side.

First test of the year...looking for guidance

I vacuumed the pool today for the first time. I noticed a yellowish - tinge around the outer edge on the bottom. I scrubbed with a brush and tried to vacuum...but nothing...it's almost as if it's stained. I don't recall this last fall when I closed, but maybe it was there and I just was used...

First test of the year...looking for guidance

CYA level is now at 35/40. I added chlorine yesterday...last night it was 10.5 / 11....this morning it is 9 / 9.5. Water is crystal clear, but there is some debris on the bottom. My pool is under a bunch of massive pine trees. PH is still at 7.5. Is there any need to do a SLAM, or can I...

First test of the year...looking for guidance

Opened the pool a few days back. There was a hole in the liner, leaving only about 20" of water at opening. I have filled to the top. Below are my initial readings. I know adding all the new water is the reason the CYA is so low. 10ish is a guess as I had to fill the tube all the way to the...

Ready to close the pool up. I'm all out of liquid chlorine, but I know I'll need about a jug to get it up to SLAM levels. If I purchased a 4 pack, will the remaining jugs go bad over the winter? I haven't tried Walmart to see if they carry individual jugs. It's probably going to be slim...

Update... Finally! My guess is the crummy weather in Central Illinois aided the process (pool temp is currently 62 degrees :(), but the water is clear and no overnight drop in Chlorine. I've learned my lesson and will not let this happen again. What a pain in the arse. Question...the FC is...

Thanks all. I'll keep plugging away. My guess is I haven't been consistent with this as I should have been.

Ok, thanks. I'll need to purchase some additional Chlorine tomorrow. Gone through a bunch the past 2 weeks. Also, will adding some DE to the sand filter help speed up the process? Thought maybe I'd grab some when I get the Chlorine. Also, when I vacuum, should I try to send as much to...

Deep Cleaned the sand. Been brushing. Vacuumed again this morning. Water still cloudy (see pic). Plus the Chlorine now seems to be getting 'eaten' quicker than maybe a week ago (which was a week after I started the SLAM). One thing I hadn't mentioned and I don't know if it matters...

Getting frustrated. I've kept the chlorine at 16ppm for over a week now. The water is still not clear. I vacuumed Saturday morning...even though I couldn't see the bottom very well. Still continuing to brush every day or so. Is it common to take this long?

Update... Still continuing with the SLAM. Did the overnight test. Was 17.5 last night and again this morning. CC was .5. However, the pool is not yet clear. It's better, but still has a ways to go. I brush the sides/bottom every couple of days. I haven't vacuumed and backwashed since I...

Not until this morning. I raised the chlorine to shock levels last night. When I checked this morning, the drop was between 1.5 and 2.0 ppm. Given this, I assume there is something in there the chlorine is eating. I plan to brush and vacuum later this morning and continue with the SLAM...

Forgot...I did add some water Sunday night (hose). Not sure if that matters, but thought I'd mention it.

Just Chlorine. Shall I start the SLAM?
