Does this sound right for an electric pool heater?

While I wasn't the reviewer that op posted, it does sound like my experience. Ours didn't arrive with the cord, they shipped one and it's been working pretty well since. I think it does use about 1.5kw an hour or so for 1-2 degree increase. Humidity plays a big part in its efficiency.

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Hello all. Got the pool setup this weekend, heater and all! Much faster this year compared to our first last year. Was filling within 90 minutes, with a couple breaks. I waited until we had about two feet of water before I started on the wall skimmer install. I decided to not cut the...

Pierce the bonded seam for a wall skimmer?

Thank you @Mdragger88! That was exactly what I was looking for, confirmation that someone else has pierced the bonded seam. Only difference I see is my pool is a rectangle with slightly sloped sides compared to his round / vertical walls. Fingers crossed no issues from that.

Pierce the bonded seam for a wall skimmer?

I just purchased a Hayward wall skimmer to upgrade our Intex XTR 9'x18' pool. I'm looking to mount the skimmer as high as possible to not lose water depth. My thoughts were to position the skimmer high enough on the wall that the 3 screws at the top of the skimmer would be through the bonded...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Thank you @nuttyp and @JamesW for your passion and expertise in this thread. I would be lying if I said I understand it all! I was skeptical about the COP claim from Aquastrong, so it's nice to know that it's likely BS. But it does sound like it will be able to accomplish my hope of topping...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Thank you for your posts, very helpful. Now you can see how was gambling on this purchase! I was under the impression that this was going to pull 14 amps, not 18. So I'm a little concerned as our current power supply is a 20 amp circuit! I had read from other reviews that it never pulls the...

I have no numbers from the unit as I don't have the power cord yet. Not sure if this label helps you:

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Very nice write up Joe! Thank you. Aquastrong just responded as well and they are shipping me the cord ASAP. Once I get pool setup and the heater installed, I'll see what I can do to calculate the COP from your post. At this point it has seemed too good to be true, so I'm trying not to get my...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

This is what he was talking about, that the sun helps breakdown CCs. It's been a while since I watched it, but that was why I was leaving it uncovered during the day last year.

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

I received our heater yesterday. The delivery was a freight shipment from Amazon so I had to be here to sign for it. It arrived in pretty good condition. There was a 2-in circular hole through the top of the box that went all the way to the unit itself but no damage. The base that it was screwed...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

I've heard both, Swimming Pool Steve from YT, has a video that advocates to take it off during the day so light penetrates the entire water column, thereby heating and disinfecting more thoroughly. But I wonder if the loss by evaporation might counterbalance this effect. 🤔

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Thanks for input. Since I wasn't heating last year, I turned off my pump and used the solar cover overnight, so the floating skimmer wasn't "fighting" the cover most of the time. I know it won't pull surface debris with the cover on, but I was concerned that the floating skimmer and solar...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Good to know, thanks. Given the solar cover will be on more this year, should I do a wall skimmer upgrade instead of our current floating skimmer? It seemed to work okay last year but everyone raves about wall skimmers.

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Great write up, thank you. That's a lot of math I had no clue about and easy to understand. Regarding the solar cover, I was only using it overnight (11pm - 8am) on the suggestion of Swimming Pool Steve from YT. Now I'm thinking of putting it on earlier to cut down on the late evening heat loss...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

Yes, we do have a solar cover. We were surprisingly good at covering it nightly last year, and now that we are paying to heat it, I plan on staying up on that. Glad to hear that we'd get a degree an hour! That's better than I expected. It'll be interesting to see the electric bill difference...

I've gambled on a Aquastrong 120v Pool Heater for a 4500gal AGP. Thoughts?

I searched the forum here for thoughts on a 110/120v heat pump and didn't find much in terms of actual usage / review, so I've gambled and bought this 35K BTU one from Amazon for $1,360 that should be here today. This is our 2nd year with our 9x18 Intex XTR and what my wife and I found last...

Betta solar skimmer vs Hayward wall skimmer

Good afternoon all, I'm considering getting either the Betta solar skimmer or installing a Hayward wall skimmer as an upgrade from last season's Intex floating skimmer. I felt like the intex worked pretty well but it was a bit of a hassle and obstruction with it being in the pool. We did use a...

Take down now or in spring?

Good morning. I'm weighing our options on if and when to take down our pool for some base/foundation repair to correct our slightly bowing walls. This is our first year setup and with our groundwork prep from last fall/spring our pool has settled and pushed the walls out probably two to three...

Is a DIY solar heater worth it?

I did paint black for uv coverage, but you are right on not long enough exposure and not enough overall heating. In between timer issues, possible draining and other hassles, I'm glad to have it out of the loop.

Is a DIY solar heater worth it?

Thanks for doing the math. I have a probe thermometer that graphs and I could barely ever see an increased rate of heating if any. Too many other factors, outside temp, how sunny, wind, etc. to factor in. I'll likely abandon this idea for now. The amount of square footage needed and the pump...

Yeah, that was a mistake or auto correct. It's a 1500gph pump.
