    milky/cloudy water

OK, here's the update. I think I am winning. As of today: FC=3 CC=0 PH=7.4 TA=70/80 (depending on definition of "turning red") CYA=70ish Water has cleared slowly, but there is progress. Just now, it looks the best it has so far. I'll just maintain from here.

    milky/cloudy water

I can seem to clear my pool this year. 10K Gal, Vinyl AG. FC=25 CC=.5 PH=7.2 TA=100 CYA=100 I have used 5lbs of powdered trichlor shock since opening about 2 weeks ago. It went from green to white in just over 24 hrs a week or two back, but I cant seem to get the white cloudiness to clear...

    Low Free Chlorine fix

Ahhhhh....Shot down in flames. :hammer: Don't get me wrong, i'm not trying to contradict any of the advice provided here. I am so glad I found this forum and the people who provide the info. I happily drive right by the pool stores now, waving one finger. I was following the advice here...

    Low Free Chlorine fix

I've had an issue with my FC being consistently low for about 3 years. I joined here to take control and since i did, It's been better, but not perfect. I just found a fix for my specific problem and figured that i'd post it, in case it's of any help to someone else. Circumstances (dead bird...

    FC always low

Define "dirty". The inside of the feeder seems to be covered with what looks like scaling. I assume that's the plastic's reaction to amount of chlorine that it is holding on a daily basis. Should this be replaced? I need to use the feeder at times during the summer as i won't be around on a...

    FC always low

Need some suggestions. I've had an issue with FC for about 2 years. Last year I started getting help here and things have improved dramatically for me. I had a tremendous amount of CC and organics and was able to clear that up last year. So far this year I have not seen any CC and I think...

    Recommended Levels

I found this statement in the Recommended Levels FAQ: If you are using trichlor tablets for chlorine, follow the bleach recommendations but have TA around 100-120 and be sure it doesn't fall below 100. Question is, what happens if the TA is below 100?

    Ladder algae?

I have a fiberglass/resin ladder in my AG pool, that appears to be discolored. I thought it was algae but it doesn't scrub off easily. Could there be algae embedded in the material that the ladder is made of? I'm planning on pressure washing the ladder after it's removed from the pool.

    Can't keep FC up

I added (2)182 oz jugs of bleach every hour for about 8 hrs straight befor the CC cleared up in my pool. You have to set aside an entire day and declare war on the organics. Once it clears, everything shoul dbe fine I haven't been to the pool store all season, thanks to the info I learned...

Are either of those conditions something to worry about? And the test results are still reliable, correct?

    Calcium Hardness Test

I just took a CH reading and noticed something unusual. After adding and mixing the R11, the water sample turned clear/red but had red "particles" floating in it as well. i would have expected the solution to be relatively clear. After adding the R12, the water sample turned clear/blue as...

Where did all my bleach go?

Believe exactly what Dave and Jason are telling you. I had the same problem and had a hard time getting past the amount of bleach that I was adding and that it would just seem to disappear. The water looked clear, so there was a problem that I could not "see". Only the chemistry could reveal...

    another high CC success story

Just as all of the moderators knew would happen eventually, my pool has cleared thanks to the advice I've received here. I can't thank you all enough. I can see underwater from end to end with perfect clarity. :-D :-D :-D Same story as many other posts. CC too high, can't keep FC at a...

    Bucket test

Sean, Just curious as to how many gallons you used in your "quest"...? I'm in the middle of the process now and am thinking I'm going to have to make a run for more bleach. I had (10) 182oz jugs on hand, hoping I could make a difference with them. I'm not going to bother posting numbers yet...

FYI - Not sure if everyone saw the post or not, but some of the recent test kits had a few incorrect tips, which made the drop count inaccurate.

    Bucket test

Sean, I've been wathcing your posts because you had the EXACT same problem. I even posted a message asking if you were sure you were testing your pool and not mine. I think that got lost during the upgrade. Live and learn.. I hear ya. When I beat his problem, I'll never forget it...

    Bucket test

In my previous attempt, I made the calculations and added the proper amounts but the FC never came to the proper shock level. So basically I think I've been spinning my wheels here because I didn't do what I was supposed to and have just extended my frustration. Bottom line seems to be...

    Bucket test

OK, for starters, I seem to have a similar problem as others. Pool is crystal clear but won't hold FC. Using TFT100, started testing to find CC's fairly high. After two weeks of dumping gallon after gallon of 6%, the CC is better but apparently not gone. Took 5 Gal bucket and filled with...

    Bucket test

I've read through the old messages and want to confirm something for the bucket test. I fill the 5 gallon bkt with pool water and add 1oz of 6%. Wait an hour and test. Trying to get the FC to hit 15PPM and hold for how long? After I figure how many oz I have added to hit this point, what's...

    Ist test results with TFT-100

Re: 1st test results with TFT-100 OK, better news. A little time seems to have done some good. I went to work today and left it alone all day. Came back tonight to find: FC=1 CC=1 PH=7.3 This is progress in my opinion. Tested it twice, 2 hrs apart and received same results. The CC coming...

    Ist test results with TFT-100

I'm doing pretty good with the test kit and am trying to have POP. FC=7.5 CC=7.0 TC=14.5 PH=7.3 TA=400 (had some issues with this) Temp =91 (it's hot here in the philly area!!) When doing the drop test for TA, the drops seem smaller and come out faster. so I'm wondering if I'm...

    Ist test results with TFT-100

I used the calculation from Jason's page to determine how much bleach to add. It didn't seem that I'd need that much to reach 15PPM. Since this morning, i've added roughly 5 gallons of 6%. The FC is going up but around 10 is the highest I've seen so far and the CC appear to have gone up...

Sorry Duraleigh, your reply wasn't there when I started my first reply. Just to be clear, no one should be in the pool while keeping the shock level up, right? Any ballpark idea on how long this may take? Or is it a case by case basis that you just have to wait out.

THX for the info. What would be the best place to start? Killing off the algea and dropping the CC or lowering th TA? I opened the pool two weeks ago and added 2lbs of non-chlorine oxidizer and 2lbs of Shock granules from Leslie's. After that, I started to recognize the sysmptoms from last...
