new gfci 20amp breaker tripping on new install of pool pump & other equipment

pyrotiger: the other set of wires goes to the SWG, or so I assume. I don't know if the SWG is supposed to be on a separate breaker or not. From the manual for the Intelliflo "The pump should be permanently connected to either a circuit breaker, 2-pole timer or 2-pole relay. Note: If AC power is...

new gfci 20amp breaker tripping on new install of pool pump & other equipment

Thanks for the replies! I checked the jandy panel but I don't see any brand name on the breaker, I took a couple of pictures in case you can decipher if this is a Siemens or Pentair breaker. Going by the label at the top it says "2 pole E-45310 Issue NO AD-287 120/240V 60Hz Class A CU/AL8-14...

new gfci 20amp breaker tripping on new install of pool pump & other equipment

I just had a pool company install brand new equipment for our pool, including a new Pentair Intelliflo 2VST pump, new Pentair SWG, Pentair cartridge filter & new Jandy IAqualink 2.0 upgrade for the VS pump. When installing the new pump, "per code" he installed a new 20amp GFCI breaker for the...

    recommendations for new pool filter

We've been looking at buying a new pool heater & variable speed pump for a while, but haven't gotten around to it yet, and now suddenly our old DE Filter housing started leaking from a pin-prick type crack in the lower part of the housing, as well as another place just below the clamp. Maybe it...

how to open a stuck AquaRite Turbo Cell

I got the 16" Channellock, and with that badboy I was finally able to open that thing up :) But even with that huge thing, I still had to crank it to get it open, so it was pretty stuck... In the manual it says you're supposed to check the plates and clean them etc. I rinced through it with the...

how to open a stuck AquaRite Turbo Cell

thanks, I was looking at those types of pliers too but didn't find any the size I need before, but now when I searched for channellock I was able to find a 18" plier at lowes with a jaw opening of 4.25" for 23 bucks... if it works it's worth it! You can never have too many good tools ;)

how to open a stuck AquaRite Turbo Cell

Yeah, it looks like someone has used tools to tighten/loosen these, even though it says hand tighten in the manual :( Do you know of any good quality strap wrenches? I searched on sears.com & lowes.com and both the craftsman & kobalt have pretty poor reviews and look similar to the "Power Grip"...

how to open a stuck AquaRite Turbo Cell

I'm trying to open up my AquaRite Turbo Cell, but neither end just won't budge using hand force. I bought a $10 strap wrench on ebay to see if that would work, but the strap wrench just snapped off. Any ideas on how to open one of these things? they're obviously way to big to use like a pipe...

Horizon Signature Reel sturdy enough for 16 mil Solar Cover

Re: Horizon Signature Reel sturdy enough for 16 mil Solar Co Ok, so are people on the forum who have used the thicker solar covers typically saying that you don't gain anything heat or lifetime wise? Maybe I'll compromise & settle for a 12 mil, which should still be sturdy, a little bit...

need new pool heater, which type is best?

Yes we did consider repairing the heater, but first of all when we bought the place last summer the heater doors were open & wires sticking out so I have no idea what has been done to it, all I know is the pool inspector who did a quick visual inspection said he didn't think it was worth trying...

need new pool heater, which type is best?

Yeah I'm thinking gas heater would be the best choice, heats fast so we can turn it on when we want to use it, then try to keep it up as much as possible using a solar cover. I found a chart on energy.gov that at least included a *based on $x/kwh" at the bottom of the chart. It's funny how...

how to do solar cover & reel for irregular shaped pool

Thanks for the tip about solarcovers.com, they seem to have some of the best prices and good info. I'll try to do it in one piece, get a reel that covers as much as possible of the width and fold the rest and I guess we'll see how that works :)

Horizon Signature Reel sturdy enough for 16 mil Solar Cover

Re: Horizon Signature Reel sturdy enough for 16 mil Solar Co I read some people saying that, but the thicker blankets aren't really that much more expensive, and if I'm gonna do the work of using a cover & I'll get a few extra degrees out of it I'd rather do that, plus the thicker blankets have...

Horizon Signature Reel sturdy enough for 16 mil Solar Cover

Hey, I'm looking at buying a Reel & a 16 mil solar cover, and going through the jungle of trying to figure out which reel I need... Anyone have experience with using the Horizon Signature Reel with a 16 mil Solar Cover? I obviously want one that's sturdy enough not to start sagging in a year or...

how to do solar cover & reel for irregular shaped pool

Thanks for the reply, so which of the two would be the preferred option here? I've seen some reels that say they can handle 100ft so for my 33-35ft pool those double thickness parts shouldn't be a problem there right? So assuming I get a reel that can handle it, would that be the better option...

need new pool heater, which type is best?

I guess generally I would like to maintain a nice temperature for most of the year if manageable, but I guess it depends a bit on cost vs heating it on demand, we will probably mostly use it on weekends afterall. Also like I said in the previous post, I forgot to mention there is also an...

need new pool heater, which type is best?

Maybe I should have been more clear, I want to heat the pool and also spa, I'll add a picture showing both pool & spa. Electric heat pump, Really?! I thought they were the most expensive option to heat a pool, especially in LA with our high electricity costs?!

need new pool heater, which type is best?

We currently have a non-working gas heater that didn't work when we bought the place last summer, the model of the non-working heater is a MiniMax N7 400,000 BTU unit, 80% efficiency. So for buying a new heater, is the best option cost efficiency wise to just buy a new gas heater? Since we've...

how to do solar cover & reel for irregular shaped pool

We still don't have a working heater for the pool (that's for a different topic) so we don't have any historic costs to go by, but after looking at info about heating costs we were slightly shocked to hear that heating alone even here in the Los Angeles area would cost around $2000 or maybe even...

installing new filter grids, how much DE to add?

There might be as much as 3-4 lbs DE in the pool :( it was dark when we did the backwash so we didn't immediately see the DE returning... As the grid assembly is totally broken (all grids have tears, manifold cracked) and we're going to be replacing the assembly, we decided to vacuum in...

I just got the new filter grids assembly I ordered, since basically all of the old grids were torn somewhere, and with cracks on the manifold... Now the problem I have is how much DE should I add when installing the new grids assembly? I know that it says to add 6 lbs of DE in the filter...

Newbie need a little help with backwashing

We replaced the pressure valve, and turns out, there's pressure after all. In fact, with the new pressure valve, even after multiple rounds of backwashing we're still stuck with a filter pressure of about 22 psi without even adding any additional DE. Does this mean we need to dismantle the...

Newbie need a little help with backwashing

Thanks guys! So happy about the tip to disassemble the valve, bought O-rings & lube for $12 total, struggled a bit to get the shaft out of the valve, after that it was easy to replace the orings and lube them up. After that, the valve is soo easy to put into backwash and back to filter...

Newbie need a little help with backwashing

Also, with the pump off is water supposed to keep running through the backwash pipe after doing the backwash? When the valve is pulled all the way up I can clearly hear that water keeps running down the pipe, and only stops when I push the valve down towards filter position, if I pull it up...

How complicated is it to take the valve apart, is it something a newbie could do or should it be left for a pool maintenance guy? Is there a good guide or instructions somewhere on how to do it?
