Okie dokie! Well, I’ll keep all of you posted with results. I lowered ph yesterday and the pool was even clearer this morning. About to add the liquid chlorine now and check FC every 2 hours right?

Also, how will the large amounts of chlorine effect my pool liner and pump/filter, etc.?

Wowzers those pools look like glass! I can’t wait to see mine the same way! I don’t mind sticking with liquid chlorine but I’ve got to get use to it and find a rhythm with maintenance levels etc.. My ph should be down to 7.2 now, so I’m planning to start SLAM today. Wish me luck! 🤞🏽

Wow, very good info.! All of this is so crazy b/c I’ve been using same products for over 30 years. This was the very first year that the pool wasn’t covered. This will never happen again!!! Hopefully I’m on the road to recovery! 😂

So .5-1 gallon a day for the entire season???

It was done days ago, nothing got in pool, and I didn’t see any signs of buildup either. It is what it is and that user clearly started out by sayin “…there is probably human error in here somewhere…”

Okay, thank you! Yes, FC was 5. That was a typo on my end b/c it was my first time using that kind of test (powder and droppers) and following directions which are totally different from my other test. So I need to lower the PH first and then start SLAM?

Okay, I got the test kits and tested a little while ago. I didn’t replace pool sand but used kwikstrip and after the white suds the water came out clear. Pool has gotten a lot clearer. I can see to the bottom of deep end 8ft. Numbers are: FC 5 CC 0 CH 180 AK 80 PH 8.2 CYA 35

Yes, I am familiar with all of the pool store chemicals. I’ve been a pool owner for 36 years and believe it or not we’ve NEVER had any problems until this year when the pool wasn’t covered for the first time. I have solar panels and well water so I haven’t turned the filter off in 5 weeks except...

That’s the thing that’s confusing me about the sand. It’s brand new and I have a new filter gauge that was put on before I opened this year. The pressure has been fine and I usually backwash when it’s 5 over - which is maybe 1-2 times a week.

Okay, got it. Thank you! Also, are there any indicators that I could look for that may tell me the sand needs cleaning or replaced before opening it up? I don’t have any CYA tests left, but the last readings were 30 at home and 36 pool store.

No it was replaced at the end of the season last year. My psi has been fine. Could it still be sand? Tbh, the floc was from last year and didn’t really do much.
