Yellow on adapters on skimmer and return.

Closing my pool. Just took off the hosing, and my return and skimmer box adapters have a bright yellow stain on them. The pump / filter / heater adapters are not stained like this. Any idea what this is?

New Liner Before Year End Closing

Sounds about right. It was from Ocean State Job Lot. Great place for shock, but also stuff like this. Felt like a Sea Monkeys kit with the 3 easy steps.

New Liner Before Year End Closing

I used one of those kits last year. It did NOT say what was in it. Was very vague. I didn’t know any different and just followed the instructions and dumped it all in. It turned out fine and I opened to a nice clear pool, despite a couple sticks/branches breaking through my pool cover during a...

Close at pH 7.2 or raise it first

Great. Less stuff to buy! I’ll just shock it, run the pump overnight, bring it back up to shock level the next day and cover it up. Sad to say goodbye to pool season for sure. Had it at 93 today (with the heat pump) for a final nice warm swim.

Close at pH 7.2 or raise it first

Working on closing down for the winter. My ph is currently at 7.2 and has been there for a couple weeks. TA is at 100. Should I raise the ph before closing?

Anyone double SLAM before putting winter cover on or really no need?

So the advice is that "little extra security" should probably be done by adding the algaecide rather than having over-chlorinated water break down your liner all winter? If that's the case, how much Algaecide 60 should one put into a 10,000g pool for winter algae deterrent purposes?

Anyone double SLAM before putting winter cover on or really no need?

In the past before I found TFP, I'd double "shock" the pool. Granted I wasn't really aware of my CYA levels so I never factored that in, but I do know I've opened up to crystal clear water. I have my CYA at 40. When closing do I really only need to bring the chlorine to 16ppm and keep it...

    Closing AGP link broken?

Glad I was able to “give back” a tiny little bit!

    Closing AGP link broken?

Thank you. I short, algaecide is optional and just keep topped up at shock level for 24 hours, then close as usual? Wanted to make sure I didn’t need to add anything else.

    Closing AGP link broken?

I’m trying to plan ahead for my first TFP winter closing but the link appears to be down? https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/145-closing-winterizing-your-above-group-pool

How soon to test CYA after granules in sock are out?

I put a pound of CYA in a sock hung in front of the return jet today for a few hours and it’s all dissolved. How soon can I check my CYA level and expect an accurate result?

Hose came lose from heater intake - solutions?

Just went to my pool store (which is the worst) and they did not have the adapter I needed so I made use of the one I had in my spare parts box. It’s working fine so far. Will keep an eye on it of course and in the mean time I’ll start making my plan for hard piping everything!

Hose came lose from heater intake - solutions?

Looking in my parts box it seems like this is the correct connector. Looks like the pressure itself pushed off the other one because the opening is too small. I have one of these correct ones laying around but it’s a little chewed up. May hit up the pool store and pick up a fresh one where...

Hose came lose from heater intake - solutions?

See photo attached. Hose came loose (blew off) from intake on heat pump. Held on with a clamp like the rest of my connections. It was tight when I put it on. I know long term I should hard pipe it with PVC, and I am planning to, but I need advice on short term solutions to get the pool up and...

    CYA Way Too High

I had a CYA of approx 100 the beginning is this season. I did the no drain method (drained with sump pump while refilled with the hose. Just ran it for a few hours and I’m now sitting very happily at CYA 40. Important to run your pump into a 5g bucket and time how long it takes to fill it. If...

AC lights, leave in all the time or take out when not using? (AGP)

AC lights, leave in all the time or take out when not using? (AGP)

I’ve got two of these lights. You all likely know what this is. Plugs into AC, low voltage. Magnets on the back so sticks to the wall of an AGP. Last year I always left them out unless using for two reasons that made sense to me… 1. The magnets being pinned against the vinyl liner for months...

Dual speed pumps - how essential?

I've got a single speed Hayward pump that came with my AGP package from my local pool store. I've read a lot of things that highly recommend a dual speed pump. How essential is this? Or just keep on keepin on with what I've got, and when it eventually needs replacement, look in to dual speed...

4 day 3 night vacation - will SLAM but can I skip the pucks?

Back from vacation and I’m crystal clear still with roughly 17ppm FC after SLAMming with 20ppm. Only lost like 1ppm per day. It was hot but cloudy with some storms. Pool has solar over on. So psyched. Last year I went away for a week and came home to a cloudy mess that became a greenish cloudy...

Thanks! It’s actually really handy to have a real world example of 8/8.1 to reference.
