Only one main drain if you have two skimmers?

This is the most attractive and functional type of main drain. It sits flush with the surface so no vacuums get stuck on them and they are "filled" with the the pool plaster/pebble material to blend in. They allow leaves and other larger debris to get in the drain, versus a the standard dual...

    Pool Cover Pump tip

Good idea. I use a 1 1/4" pool vacuum hose attached to my Little Giant pump. I may have had to put another fitting into the stock fitting to have it be big enough. The vacuum hose just pushes onto the pump fitting and stays without any problem. Since the hose is so large in diameter, there...

    “Helicopter” seed ID and tips?

Helicopters come generally from maple trees. Though ash and sycamore have them as well. Those appear to be maples.

    New pool going in!

As reference I’m 14/14 opening clear with a mesh cover. Could be user error he’s seeing. Open early/close late. But I also don’t have heavy tree debris in the fall and don’t close until after it all falls.

    New pool going in!

It does look like your lot is custom made for an autocover pool. It was sunny but raining oak tassels up the road a bit yesterday. I suspect you are aware of using hair nets on your skimmers. They catch an untold volume of pollen and detritus from reaching your filter. But may need to be...

    CT Pool Fence Legislation RETROACTIVE

That stinks. That said, I've never felt that exception for autocovers should be allowed. People forget to cover pools, electricity goes out, covers stop working for mechanical issues. I know, I have one.

Can 6x6 tile be cut to 2x2 and look ok?

My step marker tiles are 3x3 cutouts from the 6x6 waterline tile. I agree with the above that you will see some chips depending on a variety of factors I suppose. They look fine, but if you look closely you can see them. But honestly, you'd only see the marks with still water. Any movement...

    Advice on design

I wanted to show you our pool step/bench layout in the deep end. They are two depth benches, roughly 18" and 36" deep. I call the deeper one a standing bench. I love them, though would have made them 40" or 42" deep if I did them again. Both deep end corners are the same.

Solid Gray Liner (glad I took the risk!)

Beautiful! The water color will change somewhat from a little greenish to steel blue as I call it. The change is just normal with new water with no chlorine yet, no issue. Our pool is gray plaster of similar darkness so here's a preview...

Need to get the diving board jig distance for a vinyl pool with an automatic cover.

This may not be particularly helpful since my pool is gunite and I have no measurements at hand. But it is an autocover pool with a diving board. Coincidentally, they ordered a 6' board by mistake (and the wrong color), which is why this picture is sans board. The 8' board works well to cover...

Vinyl v. Guinite in Alpharetta, GA

I feel the most common reason people don't choose vinyl in your area is because that's not what the common practice pool is for your area, which took many years to develop. Someone seeing a vinyl pool in your yard from your area will have a sense that you went cheap. While a person from my...

    Landscaping ideas

How is your site plan going for the slope area? Our site has about a 3' drop from the pool to the yard, but the yard keeps dropping steeply as well as you move away from the pool, so it's probably 5'+ when they join. The pool is also completely encased in an outer wall to support the deck...

    New pool going in!

Sealing the bluestone is something I wouldn't bother with - something else to keep up with. Yes, it could make things slippery (though it may not - and probably wouldn't given your thermal finish variety), but I would just embrace the look. It doesn't look like concrete, it looks like bluestone...

Metal Plate on Side of Auto Cover Well?

This is the motor side of our cover well area. The thickness of this end of the well is probably about 6" since it's not bearing the water load. The lack of rigidity created by having a steel plate over that area versus integral gunite, is not at all important. There is no outward pressure...

    Rolled Edge and Pool Cover

Rolled edge is what the "this" link is to. And the PB is correct that an autocover (which does not have deck tracks) cannot be installed on that type of pool. The track needs to go under the coping. I agree that you could have a rolled edge on the "open" end of the pool only. But that might...

New PebbleSheen French Gray Finish - Splotchy/Uneven - normal?

New PebbleSheen French Gray Finish - Splotchy/Uneven - normal?

Our pool was a plaster day brew of portland cement, marcite and some Diamond Brite (which can also be installed by itself) in a black color to add coloration to the finish and make it grey, similar to french grey. The Diamond Brite is a quartz finish. There is clearly mottling. Though that is...

    Pool slide advice

When we put in our pool, we opted for no slide (just a diving board), but before that, I had chosen the Turbo Twister. Fairly small footprint for the height/turns. The public pool we used to belong to had two of them. So I has been able to use it and I enjoyed it. They received a lot of use...

    Diving Board Cover without board

Are diving boards that susceptible to winter weather? I'm happy not to remove mine each year, 10 years in. But maybe I'm ignorant of the risks being taken.

New pool (Delaware) - concrete, salt, LP heat, infinity edge

I think the design is beautiful. I also think its a pool trying to do too many things for my liking. To me, fire pits are distinct things from pools. Enjoying a fire, as I do many nights per year, is a very separate thing from swimming. They often happen at different times of the year (with...

    Limestone or Concrete Deck?

We have a paver patio/basketball court and a hand carved joint & stamped surface concrete pool deck. I prefer concrete over our paver installation around the pool for it's cleanliness. Zero grit, no ants, no weeds. Yes to cracks, stain that faded, and being too hot to stand on in 95+ days...

What to consider when building a new pool? Recommendations?

Autocover food for thought... The first thing to consider with an autocover is the cost. Sometimes that makes it a no-go right from the get-go. Figure about $15K +/- depending on type of cover you have over the vault (cheaper metal or heavier/more expensive stone). Next is what are your...

The journey begins, pool dig starting after Labor day, posting photos of the process.

The project looks great! I like the vibe. Straightforward pool with some nice add-ons (heat pump and autocover). I'll save you a headache or two going forward. Don't worry about getting the water just right, close enough is close enough. It's a mindset really.

Please help me bring an indoor pool back from the grave!

There is no concern about using an autocover with a saltwater pool. I would, however, go with the top model of whichever brand you go with, as they are usually the most robust in terms of materials. Unrelated to corrosion, the covers generally work fine though are EXPENSIVE to repair when...

Acid stain rejuvenation of 10 year old concrete pool deck

Thanks and yes, good eyes. Though not installed specifically for holding up the acid stain bottle, they served that purpose well, albeit breifly. Officially they are supply and return lines for solar heating that could be installed on the pavilion roof, which we chose never to do as our pool...

Dallas (Southlake) Area New Build - July 2022 - Construction Thread

Your place looks fantastic!!! Try taking your night photos at dusk, instead of when it's dark outside. The ambient light on the hardscape will allow for beautiful photos. And turn on every exterior light you have in addition to the underwater lights.

Acid stain rejuvenation of 10 year old concrete pool deck

Our pool was built in 2013 and the original water based stain had almost completely faded. It was sealed originally and I had sealed it at least once in the early years, but there is one part that has very little surface texture and any sealant made it slippery (and Sharkgrip didn't last long)...
