    don't close and freezing weather

Thanks. Useful. What do the noodles do in the skimmer? Is condensation a problem for oil boiler heaters with cold water? is there any device to go in the skimmer and prevent freeze of water therein?

    won't turn pink

True you said OTO but I don't have OTO and I could get test strips. And they worked, confirmed FC was not zero. And this AM with a new vial of powder, thoroughly mixed, all is well. The world is again pink and FC 8. So will conclude it was just bad, poorly mixed powder at the bottom of the...

    won't turn pink

    white precipitate after ascorbic acid

Kept on trying with ascorbic acid but was a pain since I had 50-1000 small rust spots. And ascorbic acid eats chlorine. So finally removed them with a pumice stone. Over out on this. Thank you.

    white precipitate after ascorbic acid

    white precipitate after ascorbic acid

Used some steel wool on water line calcium (I know, dumb). Some small bits broke off, fell to the bottom in a couple of spots, and rusted. Went after them with pulverized vit C tablets. Is working although will take a repeat treatment. But... Pump was off for a time and I could now see...

    pressure wash the steps underwater?

We wondered about algae. But it looks and feels like Douglas fir pollen which is really sticky. Pool otherwise looks good by appearance and chemistry. As an aside, the walls and bottoms of the pool look ok to us but we have never liked the steps. Maybe a light pressure wash would make them...

easy on easy off winter cover

so only choices are 1) ignore couple inches surface ice 2) turn on heater 3) keep surface churning with eyeballs aimed up there is no other choice for a few days of sub zero?

easy on easy off winter cover

Thank you. Pipes and all are below freeze level or indoors. Am just discussing couple inches on the surface over a period of a few days. Solar bubble won't stop that?

easy on easy off winter cover

Is it not true that some bubble "solar" covers will save enough degrees to prevent freezing?

easy on easy off winter cover

Hi. Don't close pool and don't cover pool cuz live in Seattle. But... From time to time a few days of freezing weather and the pool is iced. Usually just ignore it but am thinking would like to put on a cover to prevent the icing. Should be easy on easy off since I am old and likely put on...

    when to read pH

So called 'em. Said if temp water and temp probe grossly different strange things happen. So if water 40 and probe 68, put probe in water and let sit for couple three minutes. So I did that and voila. Colorimetric was 7.6 with old eyeballs and pH meter was 7.61. So issue solved. Gotta let 'em...

    when to read pH

again, if I keep stirring for a half minute or a minute the temp rises, then stops, from about 7.3 to about 7.9; and the 7.9 is dead on with the old calorimetric method so I think the final is accurate we are talking 40degree water with jar and probe at room temp; maybe the glass, water, probe...

    when to read pH

thanks all, nice video today I did pH with the old calorimetric method and read 7.8 then used the device, same thing, first funny face at about 7.3, but kept stirring and pH went up to 7.9, then stopped changing with another funny face can only conclude to match the calorimetric method gotta...

    when to read pH

Been a while but with same pool same equipment same chlorine method not lots to discuss but now Have Apera pH meter. Is cool, more fun than color matching with 82 year old eyeballs but... Water is cold, like 45. When I first put the meter in I might see 7.3. After sloshing around for a minute...

washing soda but pH no go up?

Hi. True. Out here goes like this. Air temp and water temp say 40. Then is 24-48 hrs goes to air temp and water temp 30. At water temp 30 CSI is below -.3. But this only lasts a few days and as pointed out above, < -0.3 for a few days can just be ignored. And turn the eyeballs up but if...
