I would be careful not to add too much salt - once that water has evaporated, the salt level should drop to normal - unless you're draining or there was significant overflow.

Calcium gets concentrated in your pool water as a result of evaporation or added as one of the components of 'shock'. once water evaporates, you add more, including calcium. Over time, this drives it up.

Not sure if you would have more of an issue w/ discoloration of the black plaster at the waterline when the pumps aren't running....I personally would go with tile. As for plaster in a spa - if done properly, it won't be uncomfortably rough.

Correct. Brass. They have some copper painted and solid copper as well. The cast lights are awesome but super expensive. I think brass will last. Mine have held up very well but only 1.5 yrs in.
