    Cloudy water (opaque)

When I test the pool using my TF 100 test kit I show accurate FC readings and no algae when I put in the R-0003 drops. And I do check that each time. I thought that’s what that test determines? It’s always been pretty accurate for me.

    Cloudy water (opaque)

I added 2 gallons of Liquid Shock. Fc still read 0 after 30 minutes. I added 3 lbs of powdered pool shock thinking I need to raise the CYA anyway. After 30 minutes it only read 8ppm so I added 2 more gallons of LIquid shock. The PPM then read extremely high (I use TF 100 test kit). Over the...

    Cloudy water (opaque)

Opened my 16x32 inground pool last week. Pool had a tint of green but I could see the bottom of the pool deep end. I usually give it a vacuum before I add the chemicals because I know I need to backwash. Upon vacuuming, the pool became cloudy. I brought the ph to 7.2, TA to 90, CYA to 20 and...

    Fine Dust accumulation

I have a problem with a fine dust that constantly accumulates in my pool after vacuuming. My readings are good, FC 3, CC 0, TA 100, PH 7.5 & CYA 30. I've read the other threads regarding similar issues. My main question is that I do use Pro Teams Metal Magic on a weekly basis because in the past...

    CYA test

On the instructions on the CYA test it says fill with pool water to bottom line of tube but there's no bottom line other than the one that says 100?. But on the cya test tube I'm not sure if thats the bottom line I should use? Very frustrated because it looks like I have Ammonia in the water...

    Taking apart sand filter

I'll do just that on Friday. Thank you.

    Taking apart sand filter

I find the pressure on my gauge never rises. I have dirt and debris on pool floor within hours of vaccuming. I've also noticed when I vaccumm and backwash I don't see alot of dirty water being backwashed out. Could there be a broken lateral? I'm thinking about taking sand filter apart this Friday.

    Cloudy - Not Clearing Up

Skimmer socks and not backwashing unless pressure gauge rose helped me as well. Patience is the best medicine. It'll clear.

Changing my sand in Hayward 200 series

I gave my pool a good vacuum today and held a skimmer sock to the backwash hose. It affirmed that my filter did collect and discharge alot of dirt and debris. I'll still take a peek at the sand in a few days but looks like I won't need to replace it just yet. Looks like any re accumulating...

Changing my sand in Hayward 200 series

Tie regular sock or skimmer sock around the return jet? Seems like alot of pressure shooting into it. How would I keep it attached? Trust me, changing the sand isn't something I want to do. It just hasn't been done in about 5-6 years. I don't think sand is coming back in because the dirt I see...

Changing my sand in Hayward 200 series

But how will I know if a lateral is clogged or broken. When I vaccum my pool, it looks awesome but within 5-6 hours it seems all the dirt starts accumulating on the floor again. I found a thread on tfp from last year that had similar issue as mine but no resolve was ever posted by the maker...

Changing my sand in Hayward 200 series

Because my filter doesn't seem to be catching all the debris it should, and its been some time since the sand has been replaced, I'm planning on Monday to change the sand in my Hayward 200 series filter. This filter has 24 screws in the midsection, can I empty the sand after i drain the water by...

    Filter not catching fine debris

I know this is from last year, but I have the same exact issue. Was there ever any resolve? I have a sand filter, tried several vaccumming methods mentioned but dirt always comes back hours after I vaccum. It's frustrating to say the least. My pool is clear and chemicals perfect.

Is it normal to see huge swings in FC/CC?

I have a 16 by 32 vinyl liner pool which is smaller than yours and have never heard of an ammonia problem til my pool was diagnosed the same as yours last week. My ammonia tested at a 3. I had great luck with a partial drain using a pump and 2 garden hoses. I went down to 20 inches in the...

    Shock or adjust PH first

Thanks. Took me about the same but I also drained about 1/3 of the water. I'm holding a FC reading again with no CC reading. I guess I should've closed this blog being as my problem is over. Thanks to everyone that read and contributed to helping me solve this problem. I love this website!!!

    Shock or adjust PH first

As of this morning my tests show FC 3 CC 0 PH 6.4 (added 2 boxes of Borax at 6:00Am EST) CYA 20 I'm I did drop 5 ppm in the FC overnight so am hitting it with a good dose of shock before I leave for work. I'll continue to raise PH and re test for ammonia tonight. Am I on the right track?

    Shock or adjust PH first

Maybe it's just me but that was pretty confusing. Putting the bleach into a 5 gallon bucket filled with the pool water tells you to repeat test 2-6 if its under 10ppm after an hour? It's the same pool water if you repeat? I've started to get readings of over 10ppm when I add 2 gallons of 12.5...

    Shock or adjust PH first

I started the shock process at 700 AM EST. how long does it take to get a FC reading after dumping in liquid shock? I'm aiming to maintain 10 ppm but checking every 10 minutes still shows 0. Pool calculator shows to put in 209 oz and I even doubled it to try and get a reading. Any ideas?

    Shock or adjust PH first

Spent day draining. Drained down to 18 inches in the shallow end. Just started the refill. I'll get everything running in morning and then retest for ammonia. It was a reading of 3 for ammonia before the drain so hope its half that (I'm going to put in extra water). After that I assume I start...
