What to look for when pool shopping (fiberglass pool) and things you wished you would have done from the start?

After using the heck out of our little 6500gallon above ground pool we are shopping for in ground fiberglass. Other than finding a quality installer, what are some must haves or things we should really look into when getting quotes? Things I know we want.. deep end with diving board. SWG that...

Can you get algae when your levels are good?

Thanks guys for the input. Will try again. The filter on this pool is not that great - just a small sand filter. It never gets it crystal clear. When I vac the bottom - alot of it comes right back out the return... so was thinking after 8 days it was as good as it was going to get. Just brought...

Can you get algae when your levels are good?

Started up pool at beginning of April. Did a SLAM because it had turned to swamp. FC was 30 and CYA was 35 for SLAM. Held FC for 8 days. I let it drift down to fc of 6 and did the overnight loss test and it was 0. CC was 0. Pool was still a little cloudy, but it is a small sand filter (Green...

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

I was following what pool math was telling me. With a CYA of 60 it suggested a minimum of 3 and target of 4 (SWG). Normally on sunny days it hits 4.5 at the lowest. But was up to 11 after days of cloudy and cooler weather. Daughter is somewhat sensitive to chlorine so I was letting it drop back...

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

I did read an article on here about adding a small amount of DE to the sand filter. I was thinking about trying that. When I was vacuuming it off the floor you could see some of it come right back out the return and into pool. Ignorance is bliss I guess. I thought the sand filters were the way...

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

Also what could have caused this? Normally my FC is 4-4.5 (SWG and CYA of 60). It did get to 2.0 once - I purposely turned off swg because FC was too high after a week of cloudy/rainy weather. We did have a storm come through one night that left a ton of pines needles floating in pool but FC...

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

Ok thank you for your response. To be clear - I need to keep my FC at 24 (cya of 60) until pool clears up? My CC is zero and overnight loss is less than 1. Once it is clear (water and walls/floor) I would then raise to the FC of 34 for 24 hours?

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

So been reading up and reading other posts. I am thinking I have mustard algae. I watched this video and what I have 'poofs up' exactly like that. Except it is in an even layer on bottom and sides of pool. Or it was - I vacuumed the bottom and sides and brushed whatever was left. Now it is just...

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

Yes good point. It had got too high so I was messing around with swg and then got it too low @ 2. Will do a overnight loss test tonight. Thank you!

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

LOL well I have to buy a bag so I figured I would just dump it and start over lol

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

I was actually going to dump the old sand and just add all new. Is that the same as a deep clean?

Should a sand filter pick up everything?

I have the dust like substance on the bottom of my pool. When I first noticed it I thought it was algae and tested my FC and CC and it was fine (3.5/0). Figured out it was like sediment (I do not know what else to call it). Pool had not been used for 4 or 5 days and all this had just settled to...

PH does not want to go down below 7.4 when adding Muriatic acid..

Ok great thanks! That is what I figured.. just wanted to double check I did not have anything wrong.

PH does not want to go down below 7.4 when adding Muriatic acid..

Just somewhat puzzled or curious about this. I know 7.4 is a good number... When I filled pool on 6/11 had TA 150 and PH 7.3. Followed the advice on here and did not add muriatic acid until PH was 8. PH was 8 on 7/7. Using the app/pool math 16oz of 34% Muriatic acid would bring me from 8 to...

Cya at 50, still losing 3-5ppm fc-water clear

I loose 3-4 ppm FC day with 55 CYA. Pool gets full sun. Using LC and thinking about a SWG.. because if I skip a day (or forget) my FC getting to 1-2.

SWG - is the Intex brand good for a 6000 gal above ground pool?

Thank you! So you convert grams to ounces which gives you a number you can use in the pool calculator (chlorine gas)? Currently am using 27 ounces a day - FC drops from 7 to 3.5. Pool calculator shows that would be 2.8 oz of Chlorine gas. Which would be 79 grams? Also - does a salt water pool...

SWG - is the Intex brand good for a 6000 gal above ground pool?

Was thinking of adding SWG. I currently use 25-30oz of 10% LC a day. Was looking at a Intex Krystal Clear™ Saltwater Pool Chlorine System - 15,000 Gal. I did find some really older posts on here that said they were decent systems. That system produces: Chlorine output 12g/hr. How do you convert...

    Pool showed up today…..

Following this - I want to do my own fiberglass in 1-2 years. I used to own a small excavation company and very proficient in plumbing and electrical. How did you guys move the pool into the bed? Was thinking would crane off the trailer and just set right into the bed? Thanks for sharing...

Can you add salt to chlorine pool to make water water feel softer?

To get to 2000ppm it was 100lbs with the calculator (calculator is awesome). Which is a lot of salt but only like $15ish. I just do not want to screw anything up....

Can you add salt to chlorine pool to make water water feel softer?

But adding salt to the pool would have the somewhat same effect? In hindsight I probably should have filled through the softener..

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

I used 5 month old 10% from HD and it seems to be right at 10% even though smell is not strong. Pool calculator brought it up to exact numbers. $4.50 gal here in NC. Stored outside but in boxes and not in the sun.

Can you add salt to chlorine pool to make water water feel softer?

Found some older posts on here that talked about it. We have a water softener for the house would like to soften up the pool water a little. From what I read 1500 ppm would be a good number to shoot for? Or as a newbie am I better off staying away from it? Not looking to do a SWG. Pool is super...

Couple of newbie questions on TA CYA, etc

Ok thank you for the info. I went to HD earlier and dug into the pallet of LC they have and all the dates are the same. All were still boxed so at least shielded from any light. Will try to search out other places that sell LC with fresher supply - seems like a better way to go than even...
