    DE Filter questions

I just wanted to thank all those who helped on this and another thread I made previously. It only took a couple of days with the new filter manifold and the water is finally as clear as ever. Attached before/after for your (my) enjoyment & proof 🙏🏻🙏🏻

    DE Filter questions

Either way, thank you for pointing out the crack. Without that hint, I would have been back to where I started after wasting money on more DE and time to clean the filter again. As well as having more vacuuming to do

    DE Filter questions

Ok. Found the part number and will shop for options. Just out of curiosity, does the original claim that I had sand instead of DE in the filter still stand? And could it have caused the crack? Or most likely 2 separate issues?

You were on point about the crack. It went completely unnoticed to me from rinsing distance, but the again I don’t know what I’m looking at…thank you! So I suppose nothing can happen at this point until I get a replacement. Does it need to be the same brand or are these manifold standard?

It was a conspicuous amount of dirt and I can definitely recheck before restarting but it didn’t seem apparent. Any advice for the vacuuming?

I didn’t take pictures after the rinse but no, I checked carefully up and down and everything looked intact

    DE Filter questions

Ok I got this far…all taken apart, grids cleaned, emptied out all the sand from filter, reassembled. No evident tear on the grids or o-rings. Of course, I ran out of DE in my previous attempts and the local store is out of stock for at least a few days. My next problem is vacuuming the sand...

    DE Filter questions

I was gonna suggest that but I have never seen a sand filter before...Thanks for your feedback and wow, I am 100% sure I only used DE and when I watched them open the pool I had no reason to believe that was something else. But at least it explains the dust in my return lines...

    DE Filter questions

Last October I paid a pool company to winterize the pool (took filter apart and rinsed) and the same company reopened it this month (added DE) after which I started the SLAM process. I got the FC/TC levels right but was never able to get rid of some pool cloudiness. A couple of backwashes and...

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Thank you. I will do so. It was just surprising to see that the FC was not even at the recommended value, let alone the SLAM level I read that my DE filter could benefit for some “rest” hours instead of running 24/7. Is there any truth to that?

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

3 gal of liquid chlorine went in at 4:30pm and 2hrs later I am reading FC 1.8 CC 6.6 Did I just waste 3 gallons of liquid chlorine? Pool is being brushed on each application and filter is running non-stop

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Just got my K2600, repeated the Chlorine & CYA test twice and got consistent results: FC: 2.2 CC: 6 CYA: 35 I started a SLAM last night, based on a FC of 0.5: 3 gal of chlorine, then 3 bags of shock in the morning (since I was confident enough that my CYA was actually below 30 at the time) then...

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Due to shortage of liquid chlorine I was fooled into the chlorine lock myth by the pool store and used 2x 4lbs of Scorch plus, which dropped the TC marginally but left the pool still cloudy. Anyways, after some further reading of forum posts & product research, I will be picking up a stock of...

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

I also have a Pentair Rainbow 78DPD test kit that I can use, if you think it would be helpful to determine the way forward

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Thanks again. I don't have liquid chlorine/bleach handy but I have 56% Cal-Hypo shock bags. Pool Math does not have 56% as an option but I am getting around 2lb for the 53%, so I'll go with that. As per my initial post, I wanted to be sure that what I am doing to get the chlorine levels back to...

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Thank you for your answer. I am looking into the Test Kits & articles and understand the pro's of doing my own water testing. However, the TF-100 does not include a phosphate test, which I believe is my biggest concern at this point. Do you suggest test strips for that? Should I keep focusing on...

High phosphate & combined chlorine after pool opening

Hi TBF, Looking for some advice for a new home-owner on my first pool opening (performed by pool manufacturer staff). At pool opening, a leak on the pump a leak was found, and system was off for 5 days until the repair took place. 5 bags of shock were added at pool opening. When able to start...
