    Low TA, high pH

As long as my pH stays down I guess it worked out. Thanks guys. Next time I fill and start again what is the first thing I should do: Add 30ppm CYA Add chlorine to shock level Start acid to lower pH Can I do all of the above at the same time?

    Low TA, high pH

Gotcha. Well I've been running all the jets with aeration for 30 to 40 minutes and I just checked pH again and it is holding steady at 7.6-7.7 I haven't added acid so ta is the same as my last measurement.

    Low TA, high pH

I did use a hose end filter and I have purged with ahhsome 4 times in the past week. The goo has persisted. Right now my ta is 160. I ran all the jets with aeration for 15-20 minutes and let the water rest for another 15 minutes and my pH is 7.6. Should I aerate more and keep trying to lower the...

    Low TA, high pH

I appreciate your help and advice. I get pretty impatient because I get sticky grey/brown goo ring from my fill water which I understand is the high pH. I add 30ppm CYA manually and liquid chlorine. So far with this new water I've added 500ml of 20be muriatic acid. Not all at once! But it it is...

    Low TA, high pH

The reason was to improve my process and get it right until balancing my fill water is easier.

    Low TA, high pH

I dumped that water because I didn't like the numbers. I started over again and am doing a lower doses of acid, less aggressive process of lowering pH

    Low TA, high pH

With 230 TA and pH at 8.2 pool math gave me doses of 77ml. Is that too much? I don't know remember what amount I did before but I am just adding acid 50ml at a time and run one of the pumps for 30 minutes. Im trying it lower and slower this time.

    Low TA, high pH

I I suspect that the issue was my process for lowering TA. I probably added too much acid each dose and did it too fast. I'm going to review the process again per tfp and go from there. Thanks

    Low TA, high pH

Raise TA with soda, lower pH with ma. Keep doing it until they are both right. Gotcha! Just curious - what is the margin of error with a pool store test compared to the accuracy of a visual colour comparison of the Taylor drop test?

So how do I lower pH and raise TA?

    Low TA, high pH

Strong feelings and opinions about store tests and which exact Taylor test kit I am using aside, if my reagents are too old to be useful I won't use them anymore. I still have questions about low TA and high pH though. It's my understanding that to bring pH into the desired zone (7.4-7.6) I...

    Low TA, high pH

I redid my own test using my Taylor kit and these are my results: TA: ~45 pH: >8 (the pink is very light, but it's just not orange enough to match the scale between 7-8 on the test)

    Low TA, high pH

I use ma to lower my TA and get pH in check and have done so relatively well in the past. But I just purged and refilled the spa, lowered TA and have a problem. I thought something was wrong with my test kit because TA was getting really low but pH just was not cooperating. According to a store...

    Aqua clarity and BAC question

Hi thanks for replying. Today was day three with fresh water and Aqua Clarity. The foam was still present even though I had added anti foam yesterday. I purged, rinsed vigorously, drained, and filled again today. It's crystal clear water with CH at 185. To set up the Aqua Clarity I...

    Aqua clarity and BAC question

I purged my spa with ahhsome and rinsed it thoroughly. Done this process many times without issues. Filled and added my dose of liquid chlorine. I have high source water TA and when I had brought it down to 120 I added Aqua Clarity to the fresh water. My spa is 475gal so I added 2oz. Immediately...

    Cheap filter cartridges

Do I really need to use the filters my hot tub manufacturer says? My spa came with pleatco pas40 and pas50 filters. Is that really what I need to use?

    Aqua clarity and BAC question

I'm in the process of purging and restarting the hot tub and I have a new product I wanted to try - Aqua Clarity. However while reading about the many threads and comments posted in this very educated and informative community I did come across a concern. Aqua Clarity contains BAC and it's...

    Calcium hardness

I have CH of 220 in my spa and based on my reading that number is not an issue. I was trying to figure out and search for low calcium levels and how that would affect things. I couldn't find anything, but curious what would say less than 100, or even 0 CH water be like. Would that water feel...

CYA - why do I need it

My spa is outdoor, but I live in an area where the sun isn't an issue for me. My spa isn't used during daylight hours anyway. Should I still bother caring about CYA?

    Question about Ahhsome Aqua Clarity

Apologies if this has already been addressed, but I couldn't find the answer. I know the AC instructions state you should start with a fresh purge and balance, but what if it takes a week to balance after a purge? Is it more important to add it in fresh water or balanced water?
