My spa is outdoor, but I live in an area where the sun isn't an issue for me. My spa isn't used during daylight hours anyway. Should I still bother caring about CYA?
You should. Remember it's not just about the effects of the sun on the unprotected chlorine, it's also about shielding your skin from the chlorine as well. Same principle applies to indoor pools. With no CYA, the free chlorine is exceptionally strong. So I would encourage you to keep some CYA level in the water and balance the free chlorine to that CYA as noted on the FC/CYA Levels. A CYA of 20 - 30 may be just fine for your situation.
