    Ancient Pool Light Replacement Advice

I’ve got the electrician coming to do the GFCI breakers and outlets. The pump should also be GFCI right? I am measuring my niche and it looks like a Pentair Amerilite would fit. I would like to be running a 12v light but only see it in 120v. Any advice on something similar that is 12v rated...

    Ancient Pool Light Replacement Advice

Looks like a standard switch in line from a 20A breaker. It has never worked in the 3 years I’ve been here and I’d like to finally tackle it. I’ll call Sunseeker on Monday and see what they say. Thank you.

    Ancient Pool Light Replacement Advice

Hi all, I just managed to get this ancient thing out of the niche and am looking for suggestions. Given the patina (albeit beautiful), I figure I should replace everything. I want to go LED. Photos show the light measurements, niche is a smidge larger. Thanks in advance.

Upgrading Pump Recommendations // Vacuum Recommendations

@Jimrahbe Saw you were tagged in the last post, so trying again :) I am trying to decide which pump to get. Contractor is telling me to go with a Tristar 900. I am wondering if that's overkill and should be doing a Max-Flo? Happy to receive any and all pump recommendations. I am mostly...

Upgrading Pump Recommendations // Vacuum Recommendations

Thanks! Any specific pumps you see recommended a lot on here? Thanks for sending the Pump Basics link as well, looks like I'd be fine with whatever lowest rating VS pump I can get. The suction cleaner I had didn't have any booster pump hooked up to it, it just went into a vacuum port in the...

Upgrading Pump Recommendations // Vacuum Recommendations

Hi all, I am looking for recommendations on a pump upgrade as well as vacuuming. Main interests are energy conservation and eventual automation. Currently have an old single speed pump. System has a Hayward cartridge filter and a Hayward SWG. Was using an old suction Kreepy Krawler that has...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

I'm ready! Thanks for all the help!

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

SLAM done! It was my first time and I would say the main thing I learned is that it was much easier to keep the chlorine level a bit above the recommended so it never dropped below. Once I started doing that, I think I was done in two days versus the 5-6 before where I kept it right at...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Little update here. The iron staining is definitely much better and yesterday I began getting the FC back up but am now looking at cloudy water. I noticed it yesterday evening when I went to brush the pool. In addition to being cloudy there was also what looked like black/gray dirt on the...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Okay. I couldn't get the cover on with the cartridge in it so stuffed a canvas bag with poly and put that in there and sealed it. Did you use sequestrant at any point in your AA treatment?

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Okay, that makes sense. I've jammed poly just about everywhere I can. Skimmer basket, pump basket and inside the filter. I need up not putting the cartridge in because I couldn't get the bolt rod to line up with poly fill in the center. I did put it all in a canvas bag so it doesn't get sucked...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Oh! So should I not be using it? Or waiting until a certain (which?) point? I'm going off the instructions in the thread I linked in my initial post, which says to use it but then again it's not talking about filtering the iron out. Advice much appreciated! As a side note, will sequestrant...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Interesting. So did you stuff the inside of the cartridge or leave the cartridge out and stuff the filter? I'll try this. And I imagine if I do this, really I should be tossing the cartridge anyway because it'll be full of iron? Hopefully full of iron that is haha.

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Yea! Looking good so far. I left the filter running all night and being a bit ambitious put in another 2lbs of AA this morning. Also added 4oz more Algaecide. l will keep you posted on the CuLator. I figure in about two hours I can put the sequestrant in and call it. I'm wondering if there's...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

@Texas Splash I'm using Regal Algaecide 60. How often / much should I dose while I'm doing this? Water temp is 70-71. Is that warm enough for algae already? I've got Jack's Magenta Stuff as a sequestrant. I got some polyfill as well. Should I be waiting to put that and the CuLator (I have it...

Iron Staining // Ascorbic Acid Treatment

Hi there, I'm a new pool owner and after getting a bunch of help in the forum I am doing an ascorbic acid treatment. I have zero'ed out my chlorine with a combo of exposure and a little sodium thiosulfate. Brought pH down to 7.2 and have been following this thread. In addition, I am trying...

New Pool Owner // Central FL // SWG

And finally, I'd love to ask if there is a resource on here for recommended pool services. I am going to be leaving town for a bit and would love to find an approved and reputable service that abides to the methods on here. Any advice there?

New Pool Owner // Central FL // SWG

I've got all the elements to do the AA treatment and have read up on it a lot here. What is better forum etiquette -- to post it in this thread as I go along or swap over to another one? I haven't determined the source of the iron, but imagine it's the fill water. I've got poly-fil in the pump...
