Menards - Midwest liquid chlorine sale - $.125/oz

Menard's typically (but not always) runs this BOGO sale at Memorial Day, 4th July and Labor Day. It is the best pricing I have found in the Northern Cincinnati area. Off to get three cases this evening!

Suggestions on a pre opening SLAM??

So this is my situation and I need some advice on the steps to proceed. My pool is light murky green as of today, I can see down about 1 foot into the water. My fault, no testing and additions of bleach since closing in mid October. Life got in the way of life, unfortunately my wife passed...

    Winterizing thru pumps

My pool shop crew (this is the only business they get from me) just left and they use a modified pump cover. They have a bucket full of different covers, mostly recycled. I suspect that your guy figures there could be some time savings down the road especially since you alone have three pumps...

Help deciding between Dolphon S300i and M500

Welcome aboard. There was a similar thread a few years ago https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/96520-Dolphin-S300I-vs-Dolphin-M500 and another more recent one https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/142032-Dolphin-S300i-vs-Dolphin-M5-500-Pro that my have some good info of use in making...

New Pump worked for six hours...and then shut off.

Were you able to confirm the supply voltage with a multimeter? The smoking could be the result of connecting 230 supply to the motor now wired for 115v. If that was the case, the capacitor might have fried. Also, the tight shaft from the impeller and seal issue is troubling. Something is...

New Pump worked for six hours...and then shut off.

I suspect you have a supply voltage issue. You need to determine whether you have a 115 or 230 volt supply setup going to the motor and confirm you have less than a 10% drop from either at the the motor, ie you want as close to 115 or 230v as possible. Your new motor is capable of running on...

Re: cleaning DE filter-don't "fix (clean)" it if it's not "broken?" I believe your PB may be discouraging you from a very simple task. There is a very good detailed sticky here on how to do the cleaning. https://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/72506-DE-Filter-Cleaning-Tutorial The question...

    Plumbing questions

Much of what you are interested determining related to included drain/skimmer/returns is listed in the installation instructions of prefab pool kits. I am sure the seller can discuss additional plumbing questions with you. Sorry I don't have the expertise on above ground kits to help you further.

Liquid Chlorine and Pool Store Experience

He would have the same stories if you showed him the active ingredients on a jug of pool shock and a jug of bleach. The store only wants you to buy pucks, because they have magic UV inhibitors.

looking for a automatic pool cleaner for a liner pool

Cuatro, I suspect you haven't gotten many responses as your question is somewhat broad in nature. You could start your search for input by searching this forum (top right of every screen) for others who were contemplating a robot purchase. This recent inquiry might give you some starting...

Is it common not having to backwash?

I don't always have to backwash mine in a season, although right now it is very close to 25% increase in pressure over the clean pressure at start up. I wouldn't break it down and clean it this week unless you are closing it up this week. Just give it an extended backwash, recharge it and...

Ideas for railing at top of retaining wall?

I suspect that the city of Lexington requires building permits for the installation of your pool and the retaining wall (given its height the longest part appears to be at least 5 feet high - including the footing). Both of those permits likely should have been done at the same time. The...

Which pool cleaner do you own?

I have a Dolphin M500 which has been in service since May 2015. It took a few days of use for me to figure out how all the various programs worked, due to limited instructions. It wont do my short fiberglass steps, which is to be expected since they do not afford enough purchase for it to...

Pool just finished, and we have a leak!

I would guess that the back wall contains a pressurized line running from left to right into the spa (appears a jet is straight in line with the back wall). All depends on how the elevated portion of the back wall is constructed. Likely is all rebar and shotcrete all the way from the bottom of...

    Installing a Vaccum Gauge...

I will suggest using shaving cream to locate the leak. Lube the pump basket gasket, fill the pump with as much water as you can and tighten the lid. Slather up all suspected leak locations, including around the lid and the winterizing drain plugs on the pump impeller housing. Turn on the...

Swimquip DES60 Collection Manifold Cracked - Replace? Repair?

The following link from a reputable dealer shows you manifold to be obsolete. http://www.inyopools.com/pool_parts_sta_rite_swimquip_des_element_assembly.aspx At least it give you the manufacture numbers for what you need. I did another search and found this dealer who would require a call to...

12.5% at menards for 1 gal at 1.99

Dkite22, 1 gallon (128oz) of 8.25% should raise your pool volume by 3.3 ppm. Therefore it will only take 88oz (.69 of a gallon) of 12.5% percent to do the same 3.3 ppm. You save big money and have to lug fewer jugs. :)

12.5% at menards for 1 gal at 1.99

The dates on the Menard's chlorine are usually pretty good. Interesting that this sale ad does not list the 'limit 6 bottle- 3 case deal' for the Memorial Day sale earlier this year. Off to the store today I guess.

Free chlorine going down too fast

^+1 to the remarks from Davejavu. Based on the CYA-FC chart, your minimum FC is 3 and target FC is 5 with CYA at 40. Losing 2 to 3ppm in a day with lots of sun is normal. You may want to adjust your target FC after additions up to 6 so that you don't fall below 3ppm during the day. I can go...

How to explain using Bleach to neighborhood

You are better off not telling the naysayers any more about your plans to convert. There will always be haters who know no better and refuse education. If asked, just tell them you are using liquid pool shock and dose when they are not around.

Leak where pipes from multiport valve connect to DE filter?

Looks like you have leaks between the bulk head fittings on the filter and the unions to the multiport valve. Most likely only on the multiport side as that is what was loosened. Yes there should be o-rings in there, on both inlet and output. If you can find a manual for your setup it...

    Water from missing plug

That looks to be a connection tube for some type of electronic switch that would most likely measure water pressure. Remove DE Filter Manifold without Cracking It

The manifold and pipe arrangement on mine is exactly the same, although my filter is smaller. It is a pain to remove as the thing weighs a lot with any amount of DE in it. I suspect yours is harder to remove due to the extra height and getting access to due to physical positioning of the...

Replacing Spider Gasket ?? Is this the correct size?

I suspect you still have a gasket issue or a small potential for a weak spring. As I recall, when installing the gasket there is a particular sequence of steps that are recommended in terms of setting the handle spur out of a slot (on top of the ring) tightening the bolts, then leaving it to...

Help removing sheared drain plug from pump housing

Thanks for the confirmation JamesW. I went out at lunch and bought a replacement plug. This evening I used the hot screw driver and had it out in less than 5 minutes and was able to get the filter charged and finish opening. I was not overly aggressive with the plug, it spun out so easily I...

Replacing Spider Gasket ?? Is this the correct size?

    Question on bleach and pH

+1 on the directions and link from cowboycasey. Once you find the sweet spot with a little lower TA you will find that Ph rise becomes minimal an you may only have to add MA once every three or four weeks to keep your Ph around 7.5. I finally got mine to almost auto pilot last year, adding 12...
