Remodel: switching automatic pool cover from under-coping to encapsulated track

Have you ever seen one installed? Do they support any weight on top? (They’re marketed as “not a safety cover” but if my dog runs across, will it do damage?) They do seem to have an install method with a vault at one end of the pool, but not sure if the vault needs to be significant if larger to...

Remodel: switching automatic pool cover from under-coping to encapsulated track

After a long conversation with the guys who installed our original cover, it seems new need at least mostly new parts. Even though the pool opening is the same size, the extra couple of inches between the tracks means we need a new leading edge bar, fabric, and drum that it rolls around. I have...

Remodel: switching automatic pool cover from under-coping to encapsulated track

Agreed! The encapsulated track goes under the coping in our case, on top of the bond beam. Didn’t realize that could also refer to on-deck!

Remodel: switching automatic pool cover from under-coping to encapsulated track

In remodeling our 15x50' pool, we're adding a spillway from the new spa on the middle of the long side. The design necessitates switching our pool cover track from being mounted under the coping to an encapsulated track. (Our old track didn't stay in old our coping very well, so this has seemed...

Stucco, polished concrete, or porcelain or stone veneer - materials selection help

TL;DR: have you used stucco or porcelain slabs for the finish of above-ground pool/spa walls and caps? Any experience/advice? We're doing a remodel and adding an 8x10' spa with 24" above the ground next to our 50x15' pool. I've been trying to find a durable, practical finish that looks like...

    AquaBrite Eco Finish remodel: $32,000?

We’re remodeling our 50x15’ 28k gallon pool in Sonoma county, northern CA. The plaster is discolored but otherwise in good shape, making it a good candidate to resurface with AquaBrite Eco Finish. (Liked the smooth surface and easy startup promise.) Our PB finally got the quote back (it took a...

Travertine Pavers: Sand or Concrete Base?

In case it’s helpful to anyone else trying to figure out what to do in the future, here’s the advice from the stone expert I’ve been working with and come to respect and trust, and what he’s doing in his own pool remodel (with limestone pavers): I think we’re also going to go with concrete...

Travertine Pavers: Sand or Concrete Base?

Super interesting. That makes sense. Pool builder (Herb’s), the mason installing the travertine, and stone supplier all told me to do concrete as it will last much longer and require less maintenance. We were leaning that way, despite the premium.

Travertine Pavers: Sand or Concrete Base?

I just found this thread, wondering the same. We’re in Northern California where the ground doesn’t really freeze. Our existing concrete isn’t totally level after 30 years and is getting ripped out in our remodel, and I’m wondering if compacted rock would actually be easier to fix if the ground...

Puzzle: L-shaped coping + pool cover track

Thanks so much guys! Since posting, we’ve decided to ditch the SWG and go with natural stone so we can get 2” coping and make the spa catch basin/spillway into the pool design work more easily with the cover track. (Side note: I was shocked to find that Travertine is basically half the price of...

Puzzle: L-shaped coping + pool cover track

We’re doing a remodel of our 30 year old, 50x15’ pool to update all finishes and add a spa. We’re trying to do a spillway that goes across the walkway into the pool, as (poorly) rendered here: We also want to keep our fairly new automatic pool cover. As part of the renovation, we plan to switch...
