    Pump hums then trips breaker

Thank you! Interesting...so if it were the capacitor, would it just be coincidental on the timing? I pulled the cover, but not seeing much that stands out as being out of the ordinary other than the power wires looking a bit old. This pump came with the house so I'm not sure of the history...

    Pump hums then trips breaker

Hey folks, After 20+ years of closing my pool for the winter, I finally goofed. I thought for certain I drained the pump but didn't. Sure enough, I went to start it for the season and it hums for a few moments and then trips the breaker. No prior problems with the pump Just want to confirm...

Low water level on a vinyl pool -- Emergency?

Hey folks, An animal tore a huge hole in my liner at the bottom of the shallow end in my inground Vinyl pool. It definitely needs to be replaced (repair not possible). The water has drained to the bottom of the shallow end (water line is about 3' deep). The deep end is about 8.5'. It's an...

    Dealing With A Metal Problem

The pool store uses all Taylor and feel pretty confident in the results (unlike 2 other local pool stores that use test strips or even lie and say they performed the tests but didn't). I've got 2 kids under 2, so doing all the testing myself just isn't possible. HTH for metal is recommended in...

    Dealing With A Metal Problem

Liquid. Going to the pool store for these tests. They're using good ones (i.e. not test strips, some with equipment) - - - Updated - - - HTH was one that was listed as recommended here. I've done 2 treatments using even more than the recommended, but it's still not getting rid of it entirely

    Dealing With A Metal Problem

Hey folks, Started opening the pool this year about 3 weeks ago. Went through a bunch of shocking and got it to start looking pretty good. My Ph was low (6.9) at the end so I added 20 lb of Baking Soda and the next morning my pool was green. Turned out I had copper. Had it tested. All my...

Evidence that my filter isn't working?

Yeah, I'm actually thinking about doing it a second time. I got the pressure from 18 down to 16, but when I first got the filter it was 12. A long Backwash and rinse had only dropped from 18.5 to 18. I had the hose in there for 30 minutes and it was a lot clearer than before, but every time I...

Evidence that my filter isn't working?

Ok, I got it. If that happens to anyone in the future, drain the water first. I thought it would be harder without the water, but it wasn't...it was easier. There was all sorts of gunk stuck between it and the pipe. Resetting the sand bed now. Water's been flowing through it for over 10...

Evidence that my filter isn't working?

Thanks guys. So, I went to reset the sand bed and took the multi-port valve off the top and immediately see a problem. The bottom part of the valve that goes over the center pipe of the laterals is not attached to the valve anymore and is instead stuck on the pipe. It appears there is some...

Evidence that my filter isn't working?

Hey folks, I've been highly suspicious if my sand filter that I purchased last season is working properly. At first it seemed to work well but halfway through the season it seemed to stop filtering properly. This season I opened up to a pretty dirty pool. I've been running the filter 24 by 7...

    CPSC48 meltdown

Same thing happened to me. Check out my attached pic. Since I bought it less than 3 years ago, they're giving me a discount on a new cell & cord, but it's still $400. Not sure I should invest in it if this is a common occurrence. That plastic globe used to be see through.

    Low Pressure?

Yeah, no bubbles in the pump strainer basket. A snake is a good idea. Suppose I could try a garden hose too. It's PVC, so I've got some 90 degree elbows to contend with but shouldn't be too bad. I tried sticking my hands near the impeller yesterday but couldn't quite reach. Although, it was...

    Low Pressure?

Will check on the gauge and the impeller. Regarding "If you are sure the pipes and skimmers are clear"...what's the best way to tell (or not best, but most practical)? I'm just assuming I don't have an obstruction because the skimmer basket and pump basket are always in, and they don't float...

    Low Pressure?

Hey folks, My sand filter has been consistently at 12 psi all season. All of the sudden last week it dropped to 8 psi. I cleaned out the skimmer basket and pump basket and sprayed them with a hose. They're 100% clean, but it's still at 8 psi. I don't think anything could be lodged in the...

Is it normal to never have to Backwash?

When I say "supposed to" I'm referring to the manufacturer instructions of the SWG. In practice I've found that if I leave my pool uncovered for 3 weeks straight in the heat of the summer, then the SWG can't quite keep up with the sun and heat and I'll get a little algae outbreak. I'm sure...

Is it normal to never have to Backwash?

Actually, you're supposed to shock once a week with liquid or powder shock. I just haven't seen the need for that tight of a schedule, so I go once a month. The SWG has it's own super chlorinate you can do, but it doesn't replace the actual shock.

Is it normal to never have to Backwash?

lol...I can't take all the credit. I threw on a Salt water system as well. Other than running the robot, skimming the surface, and doing a once-a-month shocking, my pool is maintenance free. I should stop talking before I jinx myself.

Is it normal to never have to Backwash?

Ok, great! Thanks! My DE filter was a constant battle for me. At startup it took only hours before it needed a bump or DE replacement. During the rest of the summer it was at least once-a-week, maybe 2 weeks if I was lucky. This new once-a-season maintenance lifestyle is great. Thanks...

Is it normal to never have to Backwash?

Hey folks, At the end of last year I replaced my DE Filter with a sand filter. I have a 24k gallon pool but oversized the filter with a 27" to reduce maintenance. My expectations were that by doing so I'd only have to backwash once every 2 weeks. But to my surprise, I've never once had to...

    Why Do Bearings Go?

I'd love to, but last I looked into it, I'd be looking at some serious $$$. If you have some suggestions of how it wouldn't be too expensive, I'm definitely interested Sorry, forgot one other thing...Do new replacement motors tend to come with new seals and gaskets or should I plan to order...

    Why Do Bearings Go?

Well, I guess that's better than that I screwed something up...kind of. Ok, one more question. Can anyone tell me the difference between the following 2 motors? Last time I bought the UST1102, and these seem to both be that, but they've got different prices with different descriptions, but...

    Why Do Bearings Go?

Ahh, thanks. But in that case, why would the seals fail so soon then? Thanks again
