    Algae?

I’m so relieved. The way it was showing up on the pool bottom was eerily similar to the algae I dealt with last year. My skimmer has never produced anything like that before - so thankful to have found this site!!

    Algae?

Lol my pool lends itself to many of the surrounding trees so debris bouquets are in surplus. No, the stuff that looks like wet sand does not have a gritty texture - it’s quite odd. It felt kind of soft and mushy. After letting it sit outside and dry, it feels sort of cotton-ish. I can take it...

    Algae?

So I am at the end of my SLAM - passed OCLT for a few days actually, 0 CC and water is clear. However, I continue to have this pesky silt/dirt/algae that insists on helping itself to my pool bottom. Nothing on the walls, only the floors and most often peeking out from under the seems of my...

I didn't have any loss overnight so nothing was added this morning, I'll start logging in the FC tests this evening. Thanks for all of your help.

I have the Intex wall mount skimmer but I'm not using it with my current pump because of the issues with pump flow. I bought a new pump but I'm in the midst of a 3 week SLAM and wasn't certain if it would be ok to replace the pump right now.

I forgot to take a picture before I left - but I found a stock photo! That's how mine is set up , both intakes on the right hand side, the return jet on the left. The second photo is what the skimmer looks like hooked up to an intake. No, the last time I took a full set of tests was right...

Lol sorry, my fault entirely! Yes, I have two intakes. If the skimmer is hooked up, it’s connected to one intake while the other is capped with a stopper that has a pea size hole.

1180 GPH I believe, if I understand what you’re asking correctly. The model number to my current pump is intex 28635EG, if that helps.

Yes, I can plug all returns, and I currently do not have my wall mount skimmer connected because I was concerned it was inhibiting the pumps efficiency.

Thank you so much for that link! It feels like forever since I've seen my pool water like that - those pictures are inspiring!! Funny thing you should mention the pump being insufficient for the pool size - I suspected that myself. I clean/change filters twice daily even without algae in an...

    Pool Trouble in Virginia Beach,VA

I’ve had off the last three days, so I’ve been able to test and adjust hourly until around 9 or so. I’m brushing every morning and I have been able to vacuum once in the morning and once in the evening. Yesterday it looked like I had finally gotten what was left on the bottom but it’s worse...

    Pool Trouble in Virginia Beach,VA

Guys, I’m at a loss. The SLAM is working, the pool is almost clear, but I cannot get the algae out of the pool. I have vacuumed 6 times over the last 3 days and this morning it looks like there is even more on the bottom than yesterday. Anybody have any ideas or suggestions?!

    Pool Trouble in Virginia Beach,VA

I have vacuumed 3 times in the last 4 days, the improvement is gradual, but getting better each day I think. I attached a couple of photos. But I'm curious - my cartridges are covered in a thick, off-white/yellowish substance - wondering if anyone can tell from the photo what it is? Does this...

So the SLAM seems to be coming along reasonably well. The vacuum came today so I'll be able to that tonight for the first time since starting on Sunday. This morning we are finally able to see all the way down to the bottom of the pool, though the water is still cloudy. I have a question -...

I didn’t know that, thank you - I will definitely look into it. I can use the hose as a siphon to remove any algae but that takes me around 2-3 hours and removes a good amount of water still - I appreciate the information!!

My current pump isn’t strong enough to hook a vacuum to it so I only have one that attaches to a garden hose. It’s not great for removing algae plus it also adds fresh water each time so I have to drain water while vacuuming. Will the SLAM still work if I don’t vacuum?

How important is it to vacuum during a SLAM?

I realized that I have been testing the CYA wrong - I have been recording results when the black dot just begins to fade rather than when it's just no longer visible. So I retested twice tonight, and I actually think the correct CYA is 60 - that's when the black dot disappeared. Also, it...
