Hard Plumbing - chlorine feeder or not

Hey all, happy spring! I am preparing to open my pool (13K gallon, 24' round, Hayward pump, sand filter), and want to convert to hard plumbing this season. I think opening is the time to do it. Two questions: 1. What are the recommended fittings to use so that everything can be disconnected...

First winterization using an Aquador - a few questions

Thank you all for the replies. I will probably give the Aquador another go tomorrow, remove it and then try reinstalling. This time, I'll try putting it on starting at the bottom around the vacuum port, then working my way up. My theory being that it'll be easier to ensure a good seal on the...

First winterization using an Aquador - a few questions

This one is an Aquador model 1020. It has a face plate that screws to the skimmer, replacing the old face plate. The Aquador face plate has a lip around the edge, which the cover snaps onto. I tried fiddling around with it some more last night, and it still seems to be leaking. I was really...

First winterization using an Aquador - a few questions

Hey all! Sad to say, it's end of season here in WI. This year, I installed an Aquador, since my house uses a well and I'd rather not put excessive strain on it next spring. I've currently got my winter cover on and the water level towards the lower mark on the skimmer, but am noticing that the...

Pump outlet hose blew off. Should I just winterize it?

Another update, cautiously optimistic this time. The water level is high enough to run the pump/filter now, and it seems to be running okay after all the commotion. Time to fix the dribble from the fittings, then get ready to close the pool til next season. Lesson learned to double check my...

Pump outlet hose blew off. Should I just winterize it?

Good morning and thank you for the response. This hose had an interesting end on it, with an O ring at the very end of the molded fitting looking thing. The whole hose came clean off the barbed fitting, O ring and all. I'm still getting a slight drip where the fitting threads into the pump, so...

Pump outlet hose blew off. Should I just winterize it?

Another update: I got it all put back together and am working to fill the pool now. I noticed a very small/slow leak from the barbed fitting that threads into the pump and connects to the filter hose. I've been reading that running the pump dry can cause that fitting to become distorted...

Pump outlet hose blew off. Should I just winterize it?

Update: I am very ashamed to admit it, but I think the cause was that I failed to flip the multiport switch back to filter after I backwashed it last night. Still wondering though, would this amount of water drainage next to the pool potentially cause an issue with that section of the pools...

Pump outlet hose blew off. Should I just winterize it?

Walking outside this evening, my jaw dropped when I saw the pool level. At some point between last night and this afternoon, this hose came off the pump, leading to the filter. Has anyone had this happen before? If so, was there any damage to the pool from having so much water drain right next...

Help with next steps of clearing pool?

I guess that is the problem with being color blind 😜 I vacuumed it, tested the water, and brought it up to SLAM level. Thanks all!

Help with next steps of clearing pool?

Thanks for the responses, everyone! I added extra chlorine to the pool, set the pump timer to run for longer, put the solar cover on... Then left, and came back to an astonishingly clear pool. One issue I'm trying to figure out is why I continue to have debris (algae?) piles on one side of my...

Help with next steps of clearing pool?

Hey all! I've had a pretty good summer with the pool this year, with the water staying nice and clear. Over the past couple of weeks, I started to notice a very slight tint of green, which I promptly corrected by increasing my chlorine level until the water looked clear again... Now I realize I...

Filling pool a few weeks before opening?

I had that thought, but didn't want to deal with removing the winter cover twice. Last summer, I found that putting the winter cover on it when I left it unattended for a week actually left it in pretty good condition when I got back. I'll definitely fill it and take a peek under the cover to...

Filling pool a few weeks before opening?

Hey everyone and happy pool season! I'm currently debating my opening strategy this year and seeking opinions. It's warm enough to open the pool now, but I'll be going on a 1+ week trip in about 2 weeks. I really don't want to open the pool and then leave it "unkept" for over a week. Instead...

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

That all makes sense, I appreciate the thorough response. It's getting pretty chilly here, so probably not a good idea to start pulling on the liner. Any issues with proceeding with the normal closing process? The pool is slightly buried, but I've never measured how far (the previous owners did...

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

Good, I was pretty worried it had shifted. I figured that 2.5' would still be a lot of water weight holding it. Looks like it is considered a j hook liner. The type where the liner wraps up around the pool wall, then a long plastic clip sort of holds it in position.

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

Thanks for the insight! It drained to about a foot below the skimmer, so I'd estimate the water level to be around 2.5' or so (sorry for the confusion). Not sure why the level got that low though, given that I have no leaks.

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

I took one of the top rails off to investigate further. I couldn't see/feel any moisture behind the liner, granted that was only towards the top. I looked around the base of the pool wall and the liner seems fine at the bottom. As far as identifying a cause, I'm a bit stumped. It seems like I...

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

Good morning, I appreciate the response! I can remove the top rail to check, but it doesn't seem like there's water between the liner and the pool wall (based on gently feeling it, anyway). Last winter (in Wisconsin) the water level got down to about a foot below the skimmer. Prior to...

Vinyl liner pulling away from wall?

Good evening, I'm in the process of winterizing my 24' above ground pool and noticed a couple things I'd like to address with the liner. 1. On a small section, probably 4' wide, the liner is slightly pulled away from the wall towards the top. So it's attached at the top and bottom still, but a...

CYA Test Reading Question / New Pool Owner

Interesting! I did the TA test this afternoon, and got puzzling results. The water started out blue and went clear, before turning yellow. That is expected per the test instructions, but according to the test, the TA level is currently at 370! The water is looking less and less green, but...

CYA Test Reading Question / New Pool Owner

Is the TA test reliable during SLAM (unlike pH)? Is there a correction between an incorrect TA level and the water not completely clearing? Thanks in advance!
