I see your signature. Thanks! You have a variable speed pump. No reason to run at high speed. You run your pump for a reason. Read the section on "pump runtimes" here: https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=Pump_Basics#Pump_Runtimes Make sure she knows how to decode chlorine...

You have low CYA. I have no idea what cell you have or output capacity or pump runtime. It is highly unlikely, even if you run a 2x cell size your pool volume you will not exceed SLAM level FC running for 24 hours at 80%. Chorine is king. Creating chlorine will stave off any algae growth you...

New pool owner trying to understand test strip reading

Dude, you didn't print out or read the OCLT instructions. Really need FC to be greater than 3ppm. Do you have liquid chlorine? Then follow this from the OCLT instructions: If your FC is less than 3 ppm, add enough liquid chlorine to achieve 3 ppm FC, wait 30 minutes, then retest with the...

WHEW! Great! Fingers crossed. Print out the OCLT directions and follow them. Tests must be AFTER sunset and BEFORE sunrise. Use weather on your phone for the times. Run pump 24/7, or at least 30 minutes before the tests.

We don't want to raise CYA until after we do OCLT. Higher CYA makes SLAM harder and more expensive. Did you add it? How much did you add in ppm? How did you add it?

Just opened pool, Ph > 10 and CC = 5.5

If the water is not a swamp, no need to dump. When doing pH adjustments, do it in .4 reductions. Larger reduction calculations are not accurate. Lower .4, pump running, test 30 minutes later. Repeat until your pH is in the 7s. Can you go test pH again now?

It is low. BUT DO NOT ADD ANYMORE RIGHT NOW. LET'S DO THE OCLT TONIGHT. Adding more now will make slam harder. We want to rule out algae before you add more CYA. Link-->

Any contaminates ultimately reach groundwater somewhere. Be good stewards...Better to have it go through the municipal sewage system and be handled properly. Please use the sanitary system. (septic aside).

With a TA of 60-80, your pH should be pretty stable between 7.8-8.0...which is just fine. Don't lower pH below 7.8, and don't lower it until you get above 8 (purple hues). You will be just fine. https://www.troublefreepool.com/wiki/index.php?title=PH_TA_Relationship...

Cartridge is a lot less hassle than DE. Whatever you do, go big. Pentair Clean & Clear plus 520sqft or Waterway 525 would be good for your size pool, if it will fit on your pad. If you do go cartridge, put a 3 way diverter between the pump and the filter...gives you the ability to pump to...
