Accent tile on steps in pebbletec/stonescapes

Thanks everyone for the feedback. The "is this common" was really meant for the plaster/pebble in between tiles. I believe that is common. Agree the mitred edges are not perfect and we've informed the installer. As noted, once the pebble is installed we'll see it less. Last, thanks for...

Accent tile on steps in pebbletec/stonescapes

We are placing tile on the edge of some of our steps for aesthetics and for safety (so people are aware of where the steps end). Pool will be finished with pebbletec/stonescapes. Pool builder says they will install the finish in between the tiles. No grout. Makes sense, as grout would stand...

Pool renovation - using broken off plaster as fill for new beach/steps

Doing a fairly major renovation to my pool. It includes removing old plaster, installing new surfacing, moving some returns, adding a beach and moving steps, etc. When removing the original surface, the builders took most of it out and left some behind to be fill for the new steps and beach...

    New motor running hot...

@JamesW - thanks again for the wisdom. Replaced w/ correct impeller and the case temp of the pump dropped from around 144F (worst case) to 97F. Backpressure measured at the filter remained about the same.

    New motor running hot...

@JamesW - thanks for your attention to all of my questions. I see the SPX3016C as an impeller for 1.5 HP motors. I cannot seem to find the receipt/reference for when I replaced the previous impeller. It definitely needed to be replaced. I think I have figured out my confusion. The B230SE...

    New motor running hot...

Old and new were both 2.0x1.0. The impeller is sp3021c. The receipt says "IMPLR HA SUP2 2HP SP3021C" Every place I look shows that impeller as 2HP (max 2.5). "INYO" shows full-rated 2.0 HP and uprated 2.5HP...

    New motor running hot...

Thanks. I'll take a closer look at the pump housing tonight to make sure I got the number correct.

    New motor running hot...

Thanks. I should have looked at that before I bought it. I suspect it was unused, but sat in a warehouse for a while. Out of principle, I might buy a new one and return this. It is a Hayward Super 2 SP3000 I believe. The impeller is SPX3021C, for the 2HP motor. I am away from the house and...

Did some searching before posting and found that case temps around 115 are reasonable, but worried about something warmer.

    New motor running hot...

My 2HP 3450 RPM single speed pump motor failed last week. Runs on 220. Bought a replacement at a nearby national chain pool store (yes, I paid more than I would have elsewhere) and installed it this weekend with new: gaskets impeller diffuser impeller ring I also bought those parts at the...

    Problem Priming Pump

I think the problem is now solved. In the process of cranking down on the bolts, I cracked the valve cover for the multiport. I'll concede I did not quite get to "veins in my neck popping out" but the valve cover could take no more :) As I noted, I recently replaced the multiport valve...

    Problem Priming Pump

@ajw22 - yes. I can always slather more pool lube on it or just get another gasket.

    Problem Priming Pump

@RDspaguy - loosened all 8 nuts and tightened in a star pattern. Still have a small drip/leak coming out of 1 place. I'm not losing a lot of water, it's just disconcerting to see. I could continue to crank down, but want to get other input first.

    Problem Priming Pump

@RDspaguy - I did both. I guess I can turn the thing off, loosen everything and re-tighten correctly. Should I do 1-3-5-7-2-4-6-8?

    Problem Priming Pump

Thanks again for all of the input. Over 1 week ago, I changed the following: drain plugs, lid gasket, diffuser gasket, housing gasket. Kept prime quite well for a bit, but still lost prime intermittently. I noticed a gurgling sound when I would turn off the pump and yesterday decided to...

    Problem Priming Pump

Thanks for the quick reply. I read that article in the past and recently addressed the following (numbers are from the article): 1 - new basket lid and new gasket 3 - all above-ground suction side plumbing was redone in 2017 4 - all valve gaskets were replaced in 2019 5 - water level is good 6...

    Problem Priming Pump

For the past few months, I've had occasional problems retaining prime. I have replaced seals, check valve, pump basket cover, etc. and then realized I had a small leak in one of the skimmer paths. I turned off suction to that pipe - still have another skimmer and main drain - and priming...

Pool Pump replacement - do I have an issue?

Thanks. Quite a few years back I replaced a 2HP, 1 SF motor with the 1.5HP, 1.47 SF motor that just failed. Will there be a problem going to a 2HP, 1 SF motor or should I see something with higher THP?

Pool Pump replacement - do I have an issue?

On Thursday, my AO Smith 1.5 HP E-Plus motor failed. For reference, the service factor was 1.47. I took the entire enclosure to a local pool store for help. When all was said and done, I came home with a Century B229SE, 1.5 HP w/ 1.0 SF. At first, I was a little concerned about the reduction...

    Repairing 120V pool light wiring

Thanks for the replies! It's strange that all of the green-wire ground is presently #10. It's probably due to the fact that the pool was installed 20 years ago and code might have been different then. I'll go for #8! The original light wires were #14-3 enclosed in a black insulator. Given...

    Repairing 120V pool light wiring

Thanks for all of the replies. The conduit is going smoothly so far. The one hiccup I have is that the previous installation used AWG #10 solid wire for ground from the pool/lamp back to the original J-Box. For some reason, none of the big-boxes sell AWG #10 solid wire. #10 stranded - yep...
