    Frozen Pool

Update....got her running again this afternoon and was able to get all the pool ice to melt before sundown. Frog logs make a good buffer to let water in the skimmer but block ice chunks - lots of checking but it worked! Now to just keep it running over the next chunk of overnight freezes.

    Frozen Pool

Ok....heard loud and clear....patience is a virtue after all. Thanks again. :-)

    Frozen Pool

I was thinking maybe tomorrow late afternoon at the very earliest. But also why I was coming here to see if it was worth the risk.

    Frozen Pool

Good point on the ice breakup....easy enough to check during the day but overnight would be harder so I'll consider how to handle that. Yes I would exchange some PH rise too! That's way easier to deal with than all this.

    Frozen Pool

Thoughts on trying to start up the equipment when there is ice on top of the pool itself? Not planning to break up so jets would be running under the ice. Right now the ice is pretty thin around the skimmer and gets thicker at the opposite end (sun vs no sun). Tomorrow will be warmer and...

    Frozen Pool

Pump runs 24/7....lowest RPM I have it set is 1000. We do get low flow when the filter is ready to change but it was recently changed and have not gotten such errors lately. That being said....it could have been a factor. I'm definitely running it faster in the future.

    Frozen Pool

I know!!! Argh....there was a time recently that the power blinked and the pump did not turn back on. It was so fast even clocks didn't revert to 12 but it stopped the pump. Perhaps that happened overnight at some point. Opinions on if it is worth it to keep the space heater on the equipment...

Freezing temps reassurance request & knowledge check

Breaker off was the first thing we did. Sigh....nothing like thinking you got this and then don't. My only guess is the 1000rpm freeze protection wasn't fast enough. Skimmer wasn't frozen so other suggested noodles/jugs to at least try to save that.

    Frozen Pool

That's my guess. I've added it to my Freeze Prep list to put the pump at 2500 rpm 24/7.

    Frozen Pool

It was all frozen including the pump. :-( Skimmer hadn't frozen over yet though. I checked the pump manual and freeze protection is 1000rpms which is the lowest I have it set regularly. I'm really confused as to what happened.

    Frozen Pool

gosh that's some cold water....is that enough? We don't have many pool noodles.... I added an empty gallon jug under the skimmer cover and removed the filter basket as well.

Freezing temps reassurance request & knowledge check

I also posted a thread but what's the recommendation once equipment is frozen? We have blanketed and got a heater but not sure if it's better to just wait for warmer temps.

    Frozen Pool

Welp....not sure if the variable pump wasn't at a high enough RPM or something happened overnight but woke up to a frozen pool. We've blanket/tarped the equipment with a space heater and pulled drain plugs from pump and filter. Now I'm wondering if it is better to just wait out the above...

    Anyone buy used Pool Cleaners??

Good idea. I'll consider posting it there.

    Anyone buy used Pool Cleaners??

We have a Dolphin Trition PS Plus that we bought refurbished from Maytronics a couple years ago. The cord needed to be replaced and in the process of researching that one of the leads broke off the electronic board in the motor. It's been one thing after another with the unit so we are done...

    New pool build

We did a fiberglass last year and didn't have the builder quote a waterfall/feature. I've had a heck of a time finding anyone who will add after the fact. I ended up with 1 bid to go off which was a reasonable quote but I'd much rather have a few. I did love the quick install of my FG...it...

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Great advice because I've already changed the % and pump time for "winter" ha!

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

UPDATE!! I do not know what I did on those couple tests where I was over 100. I tested a few more times with this advice - sunny, back to the sun, pour/empty a couple times. I was consistently getting 60ppm so I put the recommended CYA in to get the pool to 70ppm (after I fixed the gallons in...

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

2 tests with 2 different bottles of my CYA tester.....both were in the 70-80ppm range. So I have no clue what I did before. Maybe it was too cloudy? It was a very rainy week. I'll do my full round of testing over the weekend as usual and check it again.

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

I completely agree with this! I had been consistently testing CYA at 80. After a 60ppm test I definitely added 21 Oz (I measured it with a digital scale). After the add I got a 100ppm test. Used dilution on a 2nd test and got the 70ppm x2 = 140ppm. I'll do another test this evening!

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Since it make 0 sense to jump that much and I'm a newbie to testing....I'm going to test a couple more times before I go all drastic draining the pool. I was looking at the PoolMath app again and I would have had to add something like 7lbs of stabilizer to get to 140 CYA. There is no way I...

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Yea I know - I only added 21 oz of dry stabilizer and even if my CYA had been at 80 (which it has been since my 1st add), it shouldn't have jumped to 140. I'm just frustrated...I'll get over it.

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

I would still love to know how in the world I got here. I guess that is likely an unanswerable question though. The CYA I added should not have raised it this much. :(

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Duh moment - of course I need to use the submersible pump because how else would I get below the skimmer. I can be slow but I get there eventually :ROFLMAO:

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

I'm so confused by that even on this forum some people say it is and some say it isn't. I should test the TA of our fill water - I've tested pH but not TA. We don't have a water feature really, just an ugly 2 inch pipe for a future waterfall but we don't turn it on much. Wouldn't a...

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

I can't stand the thought of draining half the pool so good to know on the pH. I will probably drain some but half is not going to happen. I've been having to add around 12 oz of MA a week to keep pH in check (dang SWG). Should I just keep doing that?

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Ugh! I'll go up the Purification % especially since we are back to being sunny again.

CYA high SWG - How did I get here?!

Another question - is my FC at 10 high enough to help prevent an algae outbreak...since the chart only goes to 100 I'm merely guessing now.
