Gas vs electric 13k gallon pool

Looking for recommendations in our specific situation for pool heaters for our new pool. We are in the northeast and are having a 24' round pool installed April 24. At 4 feet deep, I'm estimating 13,500 gallons. Any specific recommendations for quality pool heaters are appreciated! Electric We...

You're talking online retailers? I'm considering buying from my local pool store but their prices are much higher. But their installers will also level the whole area, I think they use sand, put together the whole pool, connect all lines, etc. 24' round was around $7,800 + $1,200 install. Oval...

    Decisions, decisions...

I'd have to assume the Gibraltar pool. Rep indicated they do not need to be winterized, as the lines were built with materials that tolerate winter freezing, etc. I'm also wondering how long the pool store pool will actually last. They claimed they knew of owners with 20 year old pools but my...

    Temporary pools more algae prone?

Thanks. Ya the $35k is more for all the decking around the pool. Contractors around here would probably charge me $35k for the deck alone,

Gotcha. Yeah, we aren't moving anytime soon. But I like your strategy. I grew up with an inground pool. It was awesome. Pops filled it in after he spent a lot of money diagnosing an underground leak and couldn't fix it. I offered to help pay for it and chemicals but he was done.

    Decisions, decisions...

I have a big decision to make. I suppose it's a personal decision but I'd appreciate any and all feedback from those that have either in ground or above ground pools. I want a nice pool but I don't want to break the bank. I'm finishing year 3 on my temporary 18' pool. I've faced problems with...

    Temporary pools more algae prone?

I just had an in-home presentation from this pool company with a better design. How much better would you say this is? Is it worth paying a lot more for the pool? The only problem is these pools come with large price tags due to their construction and walk around decks. Thanks

Chlorine pucks are enticing to me.

Good cautionary tale. I will stick with the liquid chlorine as advocated here. Maybe I will grab a bucket of pucks to use very sparingly in case of leaving for vacation or not able to add daily chlorine. You're right, I was paying $3.50 last year for the liquid chlorine at Walmart and this year...

    Temporary pools more algae prone?

So are you saying in ground pools have better circulation? Maybe it depends on design but I remember having a 16x32 with 2 jets, one in shallow end pointed sideways, one in deep end, spraying the length of the pool, and 1 skimmer. I suppose that is better, although there are probably better...

Chlorine pucks are enticing to me.

Oh I guarantee you're correct. He probably doesn't even know there's a recommended ratio. With that said, he was also very hesitant to any recommendation, despite me coming over last year with my Taylor test kit and showing him exactly how to test all his levels. He says "my pool is clear so I'm...

Chlorine pucks are enticing to me.

Hey all, TLDR: Are using chlorine pucks really that bad, if I keep my CYA and other levels within range? So after 3 years of temporary pools, I'm upgrading to a permanent AGP. I use the TFP methods, including adding liquid chlorine daily. My best friend is on year 2 of his permanent AGP and...

    Temporary pools more algae prone?

Hey all, This may be a moot point for me, since we are upgrading to a permanent AGP soon. But this being year 3 of temporary pools, and year 2 using the TFP methods, I've noticed algae buildup in the "hard to reach" areas of the temp pool. This includes the area where the base floor overlaps...

Could someone tell me why my CSI is constantly testing out of range, all year long? This is the one variable I don't understand how to balance even after reading other posts. I know it's something about scaling but unsure beyond that. My most recent full test results: 7.4 ph 30 cya 4.0 FC 0.0...

Losing a 2 year battle with algae

As stated in other responses, you need to perform a proper SLAM as advocated here. Chlorine of >4 isn't going to cut it. In addition to getting a good test kit and following steps advocated for here, I downloaded the Pool Math App, which takes a lot of the guess work out of the process. It's...

Buying a real pool, help with choice

Excellent point. I'm struggling now already with some of the recently discovered costs. The town requires a land surveyor that costs more than 3 temporary pools! We have an electrician cousin that can do the electrical but unknown if it will run us $1k or $5k... Big variable. It makes sense to...

Buying a real pool, help with choice

I have actually never cleaned a filter. Which is easiest to clean? I currently have a sand filter that I SHOULD have cleaned at season start, but didn't. I've seen the cleaning process and it looks pretty simple. Not sure about DE. On another note, the costs for a real pool are adding up and...

Buying a real pool, help with choice

Thanks for your responses! As for options, there's two other pool stores in my area, but I don't think their quality is up to par. If you have a chance, their links are below Namco https://www.namcopool.com/ and a distant third place, Leslie's https://lesliespool.com/above-ground-pools/ I...

Any advice, tips, tricks, or learning is much appreciated! I'm looking to upgrade from my 18' Intex / Bestway for next year and I feel like the pool buying experience is just a big sales pitch, with profit in mind first and the consumer 2nd. Time for a deep clean?

Thanks. It was the first time I got low on my FC. Added recommended amount immediately after the test and a little extra today after the party. Pressures are back down now. Ground leveling help

I'm on year 3 of *attempting* to level the ground for our 18' pool and I'm ready to throw in the towel and hire a pro. This year is worst than ever. Time for a deep clean?

Our Hayward sand pump is 2 years old now and I have not performed a deep clean. Pool has been open about a month this year and I noticed increased pressures. Humorous comments in another group

Hey all 3 year TFP member here. I posted a "Tip of the day" in a couple of my Facebook pool groups. This tip of the day was to get a good test kit and to join Trouble Free Pool. Very few negative comments but one that struck me as most humorous was this one: "Tfp is horrible" He then took 10...

    Best, most inexpensive heater?

Hey all ! I've read the article on how to heat pools and now jumping in to the forums I don't see any posts about what's the most inexpensive heater? It sounds like a propane fed heater is the way to go, so is there a general consensus? I have an 18' above ground Bestway, so I don't have a lot...
