Best Automatic Pool Cleaner w/Booster <$600

I have a 6 year old Letro Legend that still works fine. I have only replaced the float and took apart the back up valve when it stopped working, it worked after doing that. Oh and I have gone through 3 bags so far, My dogs eat them.

    Who has a heat pump?

I have a Heat Siphon and live in PA. I love the Heat pump and it runs me about $100/month to get the water in the mid eighties during the normal swimming months we have in PA. When the temp outside is below 50 it doesn't put out very much heat but if your solar is still functioning it may be...

Intex 1000 GPH pump vs. 2500 GPH is like night and day

Have you considered adding a skimmer to this pool? I did that on a 12ft diameter AGP pool that had rigid walls made of 1/4" plastic and the skimmer worked great. Not sure if the intex pools can handle that. I had tyo cut a hole in the pool wall and liner.

Paver Deck Install - Before or after pool is completed?

I think you need to remove all that fill material and get back down to virgin undisturbed soil or you will be dealing with settling issues for the pavers in as little as a year or two. I would get the grading and soil removal done, wall installed, paver base material installed and then tackle...

    Heat Pump A/C

I would be concerned about discharging the cool air from the pool heat pump into the house as it may contain mold/mildew spores. Think about Legionaires diesease which was caused by something along those lines. On the other hand if your pool heat pump and home AC are quite close together you...

2 speed pump and DE filter

Just in case anyone was curious I wouldn't recommend a 2 speed pump with a DE filter. I don't agree with the above statement. I have had a 2HP 2 speed pump with a 48ft2 DE filter for 6 years and use a booster pump pool cleaner. I have no problems at all running the pump on low all the time even...

The best way to heat my pool?

A heat pump works well for me in PA. I keep the pool at between 80-85 and it runs $100/month for electricity to heat the pool. I keep the pool temp constant.

Best choice - durable, low-maint. attractiv mid cost decking

I like the look of pavers plus you don't have to worry about cracking like you do in a concrete deck. The downside is if you have a looplock type of cover the anchors are going to be pulling on the pavers depending on your pool geometry. In a kidney pool this is only a problem on the narrow...

Winterizing, how do you protect the main center pool drain?

Anyone ever try blowing out the main drain and shutting that valve. Then take a bag of sand and place this over the main drain. Then open the main drain valve and pour some antifreeze down the pipe and reclose. I don't know if it would make a diference but it may help keep the antifreeze from...

What is the best pool cleaner on the market?

I have a Letro legend with booster pump that is 6 years old and still works great. Only thing I had to change was the bag and that was because the dogs ate it.

If you were to build another pool...

I would have added two drains into the tile line one near the top of the tile and another under the tile so that when it rains the water will have somewhere to go. I would like one below the tile line so that I can keep the water level below the tile during the winter when the pool is closed.

    Closing an in ground pool

What kind of extra instructions would you like for the loop lock. I usually shock wait a few days, cover the pool but leave the pool sweep in and add the polyquat. I let the pool cleaner run for a few hours a day for the next few days. Then I loosen the cover to remove the pool sweep as well as...

    Pool Heater

If you have 2 returns to the pool cover one of them with you hand and see if the heater comes on and stays on. If it does your pressure switch might still be set too low or if it is turned all the way down already switching to smaller eyeballs might allow it to function OK.

Installing pool water heat exchanger in HVAC

look into desuperheaters. Most can be installed quite easily into your AC system. The only downside with them is that most of the exchangers are made to heat potable water and may not last long if your water chemistry is off.

    Heat Siphon (analog or digital)

What do you want to control. The heat siphon already has a flow switch in it that will only let it run when the water is flowing. I have my main pump on a timer to come on at 10:00 am and off in the evening 1t 8:00pm this way the heat pump will only run during the warmer part of the day.

Installing anchors for winter cover ?

When you drill into the concrete for the anchors make sure you are using a brand new drill bit. If you can find one a coring type bit will cut a nicer hole without the possibilty of chipping near the edge of the hole. If you do chip the edge you can buy inserts that have a small flange on them...

Plants for landscaping around the pool

I have some Japanese silver grass plants up close to the pool. The only downside is in late September they drop their seeds in the pool. I usually cut the pods off before they fall in. They get about 5 feet tall and weep down to almost the water level.

    Peeling Paint?

It takes about a month for the water chemistry to settle down after a new plaster finish so if you do it in the fall plan on running the pump for another month after that.

sorry for the double post I got a debug error and thought my post was lost and reposted.

How many inches of water are you losing to evaporation?

I recently thought we had a leak because the pool water was dropping a half inch per day. I checked for leaks could find none and then put on the solar cover and left it on. The pool stopped loosing water so I attribute the greater loss to the warm windy dry weather we had for a stretch.

What return are your expecting (Value?)

I would think the ability to recoup part of the cost for a pool is based on if pools are considered a standard feature for a house in the area. In PA they are not and we don't get much back from installing a pool when the house is sold. In your area Arizona I would think pools are more common...
