First Winter - Questions About Closing

came here looking for winterizing questions too. Last year I removed the pump and hose and brought them inside, then just let the water drain down to the return hole. I did not cover the pool as we don't have much leaves around either. The only mistake I made was still testing and adding...

Air Jet Valve leaking when pump is off

Mine is doing this, does anyone have any information on why or how to fix it?

Water Level (only dropping certain amount??)

I finally found the leak and it's in the side of the pool, it's like something scrapped against it and somewhat punctured it. It's more weeping than leaking but my only guess is that once the water level gets low the water pressure drops to where it no longer forces it way out, and I say that...

Water Level (only dropping certain amount??)

checked the water level this morning and it's the same 1" above the intakes, or right at the bottom of the return. So, it seems like something around the return?? I know I put the gasket on the inside like I am supposed to, if I don't see it coming from there when the pool is full is there...

Water Level (only dropping certain amount??)

I have filled up my pool multiple times and the water level keeps dropping, but couple of things. Last year was the first year we had the pool and it did the same thing for a while then quit, I assumed it was just the pool stretching and getting settled. This year I was kind of assuming the...

Backwash multiple times in a row

Here are some pics of the pool. I think I have the water testing down now, but know have another issue. I will ask you here but probably start another thread too. The water level keeps dropping and I can't figure out why yet. The first year we had the pool, last year, this happened too but...

Backwash multiple times in a row

Just wanted to give you an update and ask couple of last questions. I have kept the FC above 16 for days now and finally the water has cleared, not sure if its completely done or not but I can see the bottom now and the cloudiness seems to be gone. I still have the overnight test to run so I am...

Backwash multiple times in a row

Finally the FC came down to 16 from 23 this morning, which 16 is supposed to be the slam level, so that is good. Also checked pH and it has came down. my CYA was still around 40, so based on that link the SLAM process should work. From what I can tell on the links you provided I just have to...

Backwash multiple times in a row

I was finally able to run the overnight test. I didn't have any chlorine to speak of from my first test so I added lots, probably too much to be honest, but I wanted to make sure I got readings. The number dropped 10 from the overnight to the morning. I read about the SLAM process and added...

Backwash multiple times in a row

…. And those numbers are after using a whole bottle of liquid chlorine yesterday, if that matters.

Backwash multiple times in a row

Cl/Br test was .5 ph was 8.2 FC 0.5 CC 0.5 TC 1.0 CH 250 TA 100 CYA 37-40 (was kind of hard to tell as I was looking really hard for that black dot) Now that I have these numbers, what is the best way to tell what to do or what to add?

Backwash multiple times in a row

thanks, I will post numbers tomorrow, just to make sure the water has had 24 hours to settle down from the treatment.

Backwash multiple times in a row

Is it common to have to backwash multiple times in a row? Hooked up the filter for the first time and have started running it to get the pool ready. I noticed that after backwashing and rinsing that it will run fine for a while (not long) before the pressure drops from the return, and so I...

    First year after winter questions

I have had it in four times now, but mostly stirs up stuff. I mean don't get me wrong, it does pick up stuff, but most disturbs most floating off the bottom, but then just settles again the next day. Hasn't helped enough to make a noticeable difference yet. I need the pump running to add the...

    First year after winter questions

I have a Aiper cordless automatic pool cleaner. I also have one of those things that attaches to the end of a garden hose with the little net on it to grab stuff, but you have to get in the pool to really use it. The pool cleaner jets push this stuff more than suck it up. I don't have pipes to...

    First year after winter questions

Forgot this one. Question #3: Does sand have to be replaced each year, or is just maintain the level of the sand okay, since I did backwash and rinse regularly. Here is a pic after I ran the skimmer net across the bottom, just pushes all this to the side. Vacuum does get some, just stirs most...

    First year after winter questions

Now that the pool is completely thawed there is quite of bit of algae(?) in it. It's kind of a red/brown color and not easily gotten with the pool vacuum as the jets on the vacuum just disturb it and blow it around, it does get some just not much of it. Same thing when trying to use a skimmer...

    My first winterizing questions.

you haven't had any issues by leaving the water level high, is that correct?

    My first winterizing questions.

Last question (I promise), if I don't drain the pool below the intakes, does the water freezing have any bad effects on the intake covers themselves? or is it just better to drain below the intakes and take off the intakes and return for the winter?

    My first winterizing questions.

I know the instructions tell you to take the pool down every year, so what are the plugs for that they would give them to you? Also, if I use the plugs should I still drain to below the intakes or just leave the water at it's normal level?

    My first winterizing questions.

I went and looked and did find those in the box, thanks. We have very few trees here, so we may just plug up the holes like you suggest and leave it at that and see how it goes. Just forget the cover this first year and see what happens. I did buy one of those winterizing chemical ball...

    My first winterizing questions.

After doing more research I saw someone (on this forum) in a colder climate in mine that didn't cover the pool at all, just drained it below the ports. Got me to thinking, what is the point of a cover?

    My first winterizing questions.

I have an Intex Ultra 18x52 and watched a video on winterizing where the guy closed off the valves, unhooked the hoses but left the water completely full and then covered it. He said the first year he drained the pool below the intakes and the cover sank with the weight of the snow/rain, so for...

    Backwash (Intex 18x52)

You are correct, I was totally looking at the wrong thing, not it makes total sense. I did the steps and there is a nickel size air bubble at the top of the pre filter, but it didn't seem to hurt anything when I did the backwash and rinse. Thank you for the help.
