    Jandy Aquapure problems

Flow reading okay for a while then going to zero makes me suspect an air bubble accumulating over the sensor. Is your installation cell position one of those shown in the manual? If horizontal, the sensor plug must be down. nb: I'm just a fellow Aquapure owner. If one of the experts chimes in...

Changed from Cartridge to Media filter - WOW

Fwiw, I have a CCP 320 cartridge filter, 320 square feet, which is 30 square meters for 20,000 gallons, 76,000 liters. There are 40 foot, 13 meter, evergreen and other trees and shrubs within a few feet of the pool and 80 foot, 25 meter, pines next door. They rain down pollen, needles, leaves...

    Advice on salt cell replacement

Here is the chart @HermanTX is talking about. It's kind of obvious, but another loss for the generic system is ability to monitor or control it with the rest of the Pentair system, i.e. the app. It's not clear why, but afaik, there is zero cross-brand compatibility of controls for SWGs.

How to Setup VSP Schedule IAqualink?

Hi. Lots of threads here on this topic. I think I've read them all. The consensus goes like this: Experiment to find the minimum RPM that meets the flow requirements of your SWG and other devices that have one (like heater, though you can configure that to bump up rpm just when it's on). Add a...

On my 4th Heater going into 5th season

It's been both. The heater was reportedly 2 years old when we bought the house in summer 2020, I'm pretty sure using liquid chlorine because the salt system was broken. Fixed that and have been using the salt system for 5 years now April to November. The rest of the year it's pucks in a floater...

On my 4th Heater going into 5th season

A fellow Mastertemp owner here. A practice that can cause early failure is running the heater with the water consistently cold. (The manual says 68F, which is 20C.) This causes combustion gasses to condense in the heater, and they're quite acidic.

18 year old Polaris 280.... Buy a new one, 'upgrade' to another pressure side cleaner, or just keep repairing/rebuilding existing unit

My take is that if the 280 does a good job, and you can keep it going without pain, do so.... Why I make that recommendation: My pool had a 380 when we moved in. It was 14 years old and in bad shape. I changed many parts, and it worked well for another two years. But then more parts needed...

    Considering SWG in Portland Oregon

With good water chemistry, acid cleaning the cell just isn't a thing. I'm going on 5 years with TFP methods. Never had to clean the cell except to poke out some seeds when my filter's vent screen failed. Of course if you have very high CH fill water, that's not possible. Mine's 300-400.

    Pressure side vacuum?

A detail... If you find that the really fine stuff goes through the bag, some of the 3rd party bags are somewhat finer than the OEM Polaris jobs. They really help me in the spring when pollen is a problem. Here's an example.

Testing Aqua Pure Salt Cell (Is it cooked)

I'm just an owner, so trust the experts over me. The sensor works by heating a little metal button exposed inside the cell. The more water flow, the more heat is drawn away from the button, and the more current to the heater. The electronics in the box sense this current. So what can cause a no...

    Calimar / B&D 1.5hp or 3 HP Pump

I disagree with the "turnover doesn't mean anything" concept in some cases. If you have a lot of neutral buoyancy particles falling into your pool (as I do) due to surrounding trees, heavy pollen, very dusty environment, etc. then turnover rate gives a clue of how quickly stuff will be removed...

My inground pool is leaking. I see bubbles comming out of one of the return lines

I'm sure the experts will have advice, but one thing to note is that bubbles result from air being sucked into plumbing on the pump inlet side rather than the return side. That air gets pumped through the system and shows up at the returns. The same flaws that let air in can leak water out...

    Maintaining my own pool now

Just a note. The common wisdom around here is that cell reports of salt level should not be trusted. The gold standard is the Taylor salt test. If the cell is tracking the Taylor test, that's great, but don't assume it will be so forever. A little crust on the sensor can change things.

    Pentair filter drain plug damaged

Shop vac sounds great. Another idea: I use my "Spa Wand" hand pump, originally meant to get junk off the bottom of the spill-over spa where the robot can't reach. The plug on my filter is fine, but dancing the limbo is necessary to get hands on it. :)

Can someone recommend a plain spa light?

Yeah the housing looks like a perfect clone of the Pentair I have now, so should fit. It's not UL listed, so not within code. The CE listing is only good for the European Union. My concern is that it also looks 100% like the Pooltone products, which are often reported to have seals that don't...

Can someone recommend a plain spa light?

Yeah thanks. I really wish they had a 6" version of Amerlite. Afaics there's only the 10", which won't fit.

Can someone recommend a plain spa light?

I am looking to replace a simple white 6" spa light, 120V, min 30' cord. Standard Pentair niche. I have read the Wiki page. THANKS for that. Current top of the list is this J&J light for ~$550. Can anyone comment on J&J? Anyone have a better idea? Really appreciate all pointers... This...

Heh. Yeah you gotta feel yourself living, especially in these crazy times.

What did you do to your pool today?

Water is headed toward 50F here in NC, which is our threshold for a daily dip. (Our pool is open all year.) Looking forward to it. Every year the Mastertemp 400 is a little cranky in the spring. We only use it to heat the spa. So maybe it''s moisture from not being used for a while. This...

Strange winter so far for me

Hey I'm with you. Going on 5 years with an IG pool in North Carolina. The deck is too narrow for a decent cover so I'm one of ~half of folks around here who keep it open all year. One winter before this one had a thin skim of ice on one morning. That's it. This winter, water was 32F for days...

US motor Pool pump still buzz after new capacitor

Sorry. I somehow missed your second paragraph. Yeah as long as there's no roughness or sounds when turning, should be good. The other thing to be a sure is that the capacitor is the right size (number of microfarads). Otherwise a new motor is probably needed. The centrifugal switch is probably...

US motor Pool pump still buzz after new capacitor

I'm sure the experts (which I'm not) will want to know the kind of pump. Photos wouldn't hurt. Another reason a motor can't start is the impeller being bound up. This can happen in many ways. Power everything completely down, remove the filter basket, and try rotating the impeller. It should...

Polaris Pump Electricity Usage Increase: From 1.32 kWh to 5.92 kWh

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that it may be very safe to remove the cleaner booster pump from freeze protection entirely (or manually turn its breaker off when it's cold). Some time when your filter pump is running normally, and the booster is not, pull the robot out onto the deck...

    Replacement for Jandy Pool/Spa Controller

In the manual it looks like that ivory bezel is easily removable. How about doing that and giving it a couple careful coats of white spray paint plus a cleaning? An alternative is some kind sleek white cover box. Or maybe making a recess in the wall with a flush cover. Multi-hundreds of $$ to...

    Water Flow during freeze

Is there a diverter valve in the return circuit that you can set mid-way to allow flow in both returns? This is what I need to do to avoid the option where iAqualink switches between pool and spa mode a few times an hour.

What is my best option to protect my equipment from the coming weather?

Some of us run our pools all year. Some good advice in this Wiki article. If, as the article says, you can arrange for some water flow through each pipe, you ought to be fine even without running the heater. A tarp is a good idea to keep the equipment accessible. But I've never understood how...

    Tablets over winter

I do this in NC. Let CYA drift down to 50 or so by late fall. Turn the SWG off by December. Through the winter it takes maybe a single tab every 10 days or so to keep FC good. By April SWG is usable again and CYA is pusing 70. Bob's your uncle. pH is steady all winter, too due to the A in CYA...

    SWG flow switch enigma

Yeah to get the probability of a failure of the two devices combined that will lead to an explosion, you multiply. So if each one is 2% in any given year, that's .04%, which ought to let you sleep better. Fwiw, the Jandy Aquapure SWG system has some issues, but the flow sensor is good. It's in...

Reassurance requested for freezing weather prep in NE Texas!

A thing that document doesn't mention is to figure out a valve setting that makes at least a bit of water pass through each pipe and piece of equipment. Or else blow them out so there's nothing to freeze. For example on mine, deck jets, spa suction, spa bubbler, heater, and the cleaner circuit...

Badu Swim Jet - Freeze protection

I'm seeing lows of 30 and 31 in your forecast. A few hours around freezing is very unlikely to cause any problem. For PVC it generally takes several hours in the low 20's. But 10 minutes per hour or two through the cold part of the night is fine if it means you'll sleep better.
