Raleigh NC cold weather- water freezing in skimmer

I have put some heat tape on the exposed pipes and wrapped them with pipe insulation and put a tarp over the pump and sand filter with a portable heater blowing warm air into the tent like structure. Its makeshift but I dont know what else to do. If I could get the plate on the skimmer I may...

leaving for 14 day vacation whats the highest FC level I can safely do

WOW At that level of FC loss there is no hope of even getting through a week! I'm toast. Guess the Green swamp is inevitable then.

leaving for 14 day vacation whats the highest FC level I can safely do

Going to leave tomorrow morning. Hoped it would be ok to run the FC up to some number that would last almost the whole time gone and still have some remnants left. I guess that is not possible or safe to elevate the FC to that high a level? Also thought of putting in algaecide but was cautious...

leaving for 14 day vacation whats the highest FC level I can safely do

I want to keep the pool sanitized during my 14 day absence but I am going to have to turn off the equipment while away. What's the most I can elevate the FC in the pool without harming the liner etc?

Cloudy Water will not clear up

I opened my pool up this year to find a nice clean water and no cya detected. I of coarse added somecya and shocked the pool for a few days with a cya of 30. All was well and as I am under a tree canopy I have to constantly vac the leaves off the pool.I may not have been as diligent as I should...

Spa free chlorine suddenly rising very high

Thanks Richard. We have consistently changed our water every 3 months. We have always used some sort of biofilm treatment in doing so. We in fact did two disinfection processes in a row the first time we put the tub back in operation after it had sat for some unknown period of time. But I have...

Spa free chlorine suddenly rising very high

Some good info there chem geek. Thanks. I'm finding that the FC is slowly falling. So I must have done something stoopid. I am thinking about just draining the tub at this point and doing the water change that is due. Is it necessary to do the pipe cleaning thing every time you do this or is...

Spa free chlorine suddenly rising very high

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your taking the time to ponder this ridiculousness of mine. I probably double dosed the spa not realizing it. Maybe the wife and myself both dosed it and just overdosed it. Im going to drain and clean it and hopefully it will be fine after that.

Spa free chlorine suddenly rising very high

I was reluctant to even post this because I know that what you say is true. I just don't get it. I want to test it again and find out I just did something brain dead like I sometimes can do. I do not have any sources of chlorine that feed the spa. I simply add some after each use as needed.

Spa free chlorine suddenly rising very high

Yesterday we tested our spa FC to be 25! Strange thing is we had not added any chlorine to the spa to cause this rise. Today we retested the water after leaving the lid open all night and found the FC to be above 30 by then I had just stopped adding drops. No chlorine had been added? I just dont...

I'm changed the spa water and

This time I still had some left from previous treatment that I needed to use up. I remember when you helped me last time I changed the water that you said you were recommending the Ahh-Some now. Next flush will see some though. Thanks for the reminder. I just checked the numbers on the tub and...

Thanks for the quick response. I appreciate the help. Hopefully the balancing act will go well!

I'm changed the spa water and

I used a system flush before draining and replacing the water. I then shocked the spa to 12 with dichlor to get some CYA in the water. I think I got the cart ahead of the horse here and should have balanced the water before shocking. I filled the spa out of the hose which is city water and was...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

I am not smart enough to figure out what this is. I think that I am pointed at just changing the water after decontamination and praying that I get whatever it is in the process. If there is an enzyme that you would recommend after I get started back up with new water I would be interested to...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

OK Thanks for the information. I did do a bucket test of 2 gallons with a teaspoon of bleach which was overkill and that would have put FC at around 54. checked it and the cc was still at 3. Don't know what I have but it isn't easily affected by FC levels. Already have the Spa System Flush...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

In light of what you have said I would like to add that I have used a biofilm remover when I put the spa back in operation after a prolonged time of inoperable condition being stored in an outside environment while being covered but that cover being compromised somewhat. I bring this up simply...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

I really appreciate the input here. You know much more than I do about these issues in my water as I am quite the armature when it comes to matters of water chemistry and that is why I have embraced the BBB method for its simplicity. I can handle that but these CC that will not dissipate are a...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

I have been trying to determine just what path to take next. I don't seem to be making great progress with the SLAM method. It seems that I could go on indefinately with SLAM and not reach the desired goal of eliminating the CC's in the spa. I read an article about the practice of super...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

No ozonator. I have uncovered the tub to expose it to as much light as I can but that will be somewhat sheltered from light though. I read on here somewhere that dropping the temp of the tub helped someone get the CC down. So I did drop the thermostat to 80 to see what would happen. I had the...

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

Well I appreciate the help but I just can not get the cc to drop. I have been holding the spa at FC of about 14 but the cc remains at 3. We are not using the tub until this is cleared up one way or another. Is this a common problem? I think I should be seeing improvement in the CC reading...

New AG Pool Installed - Ground Wet in One Section

I got a small hole in my liner a while back and it was a noticeable change in water level from it. I feel that if you have a leak you will see the water level drop. I had one of those underwater patch kits which worked fine.

I am seeing CC at 3 in my spa

I have been trying to get the TA down in the spa since the Ph was rising to 8.2 when aeration was in use. The TA had gone to 110 so i lowered it to 50 with dry acid and that seemed to correct the issue. I also needed to add stabalizer to the tub as it had slipped to 18 from adding water...

Water flow slows too soon after backwash

Haven't done a OCLT but will tonight. I have been maintaining the FC at between 3 and 6 as the daily test dictate. Ph is kept at 7.5 to 7.7 and it stays pretty stable in that area. I rarely have to increase it. Pool place said it is about time that I should change the sand in the filter(about 5...

Water flow slows too soon after backwash

The water is clean and there are no problems with debris so I think something else is happening. Just to make things clear about my situation I would like to explain that my valve on my sand filter leaks to backwash pipe when the valve is in the filter position. I installed a gate valve to stop...
