Yes it's sand. It's reddish in color. Been getting this stuff since my pool opened in 2023. It builds up pretty heavily on the benches, steps, and tanning ledge on my pool. I typically brush it off into the main pool area to be vacuumed.

How often should I be unscrewing my swg from the plumbing to visually inspect it? Is there a rule of thumb? As far as chlorine production goes I haven't had any problems, I just want to make sure I'm maintaining my pool well. Thanks.

Oh this was really educational. I thought it was coming from my pool water but it is actually coming from the other side (from the soil/clay). So it seems like this is a harmless process. There's still the question of cleaning it off. Any tips for that?

Usually by 3 days, the purple color of the mixture is a little darker than the 8.2 on the comparator. So I assume that the 8-8.2 for a couple of days isn't true in my case, if the test kit is any indication. 🤷‍♂️

Just to be clear it would be 8.2+ for at least 5 days... if that counts as "a few". I've never let it go that long. But if that's the understanding you have then I will trust :)
