Waterways Pump Basket Lid Stuck (with ears)

Is there a tool that would work to help loosen a Waterways pump basket lid? It's 8" diameter and has "ears" on the sides, nothing on top. The tools I saw online all seemed to be for setups with something on top, or for smaller diameter lids. We had a crazy windstorm here yesterday and the pump...

Pool liner bleached, wrinkled in one area

My husband put in some powdered ph down a couple of times - it's possible he didn't spread it around. Haven't used any solid chlorine - I've been BBB from the beginning after seeing the ingredients list on the TA adjustment bottle was sodium bicarbonate when we got our first pool - and I...

Pool liner bleached, wrinkled in one area

Here they are - Wide shot, can see the lighter area of the liner is attached, along with a closer pic of the wrinkles. It's more noticeable by feel - definitely a different texture to the liner surface in this area. (Please ignore the dusty spots - I need to vacuum!) The bleaching area looks...

Pool liner bleached, wrinkled in one area

I use liquid chlorine from the pool store - 12.5% in the refillable containers. Never used any granular chlorine or tabs, etc. The ph did drop over the winter, but I would think the entire pool liner would show issues if it was that. I use dry acid and spread around pool if ph is high, just...

Pool liner bleached, wrinkled in one area

Thanks, Kim - I didn't even consider that re: the mats. I've also seen reviews about them not staying in place so it probably wouldn't be helpful even without the algae issue. My water is usually very well balanced through the season, haven't had to shock except at opening in most years. We just...

Pool liner bleached, wrinkled in one area

We got a replacement pool a couple of years ago, and I continued to pour the bleach in front of the return like I had with the previous pool. I guess, however, the circulation area wasn't quite the same, and late last summer we noticed a patch on the liner floor that is bleached out and feels...

    Vinyl Freestanding Deck Review

I know this is an old post, but I'm looking at the aluminum freestanding side decks and was wondering what your experience has been? They seem to get better reviews than the resin style the OP had to deal with. Thanks!

Hayward Xstream cover will not tighten

I have the exact same problem - used the toothbrush and detergent on the threads for the base and the locking ring, ordered a new O-ring, and made sure to apply Jack's lube. It still won't tighten down to where it 'clicks' - it binds up before the click. Very frustrating!

"Used" Baking Soda plus a Vacation Question

Thanks, everyone - I did find some individually wrapped trichlor tabs at Walmart and grabbed a cheapo floater. I'll bring it up to shock level before I leave so hopefully the tabs won't have to do too much work. And I'll start using that baking soda instead of throwing it out - good to know!!

"Used" Baking Soda plus a Vacation Question

We use the typical open box of baking soda in the fridge each month to absorb odors, and then toss it. I found myself this morning wondering if it could be used in the pool to raise TA even though it's been open in the fridge for a month? Just idle curiosity, really, but what are your thoughts...

Thompson's Water Seal and Pool Water... OK or Terrible?

Hi, everyone, We've opened the pool, even though it's too cool to actually get into. We have a small in-and-out wood side deck next to our above-ground pool, and need to apply water sealant to the top. Husband would prefer to use the sprayer, because it's quicker and easier and he swears he...

    Pool Newbie - Vacation Questions

I've been using the BBB method with our pool since it was installed in March, and haven't had any problems maintaining sparkling water! Now I'm just concerned about vacation time. We were planning on using the Chlorease SWG that we got free with our pool package, but I'm frankly scared to...

Lets hear your pool critter stories.

Well. my first critter just happened last night. Was leaning against the pool talking to the hubby, trailing my hands in the water and pulling out leaves, etc, that passed my hands in the dark. Well, one of the leaves I grabbed was soft and roundish - ergh - a dead baby bird. I think it must've...

    TF-100 just one pH test?

I have a hard time reading it, also - even against a bright white background. I'm pretty notorious for having difficulty distinguishing between shades of the same color, though. Are there any other manufacturers that have a different type of pH test?

    ARGH Floating Steps...

Sorry about that lack of description!! I should stop posting after about 8 PM ;). They're the easy-in-and-out steps that attach to an external ladder (half an A-frame on the outside, steps on the inside of the pool), not the wedding cake steps, and the description you gave of the ant-entrapment...

    ARGH Floating Steps...

Well, the pool is working well as far as water balanced, etc, but this weekend we've had some fun trying to get the entry ladder and in-pool steps assembled. Well, the assembly is actually easy - up to the point where we put a wheelbarrow-full of sand in the in-pool steps and lift them into the...

    Pre-Fab Decks?

Next year (or this year, if I get some magical bonus at work), we'd like to put a deck against our AG Pool. I like the look of the aluminum pre-fab decks (such as thepoolfactory's website, or the resin fan feck), but wasn't sure how sturdy and durable they were. Anyone have experience with them?

Damp spot next to new AG pool

Thanks, Waste! I didn't get a chance to do that this morning before work, and I wanted to let the pump and filter run for a while before turning it back off since the water'd been sitting still for almost three full days. I will try the hose clamp tightening tonight after work, and if that...

    Testing the Source

My new AG pool finally got electric going, so now the pump is running merrily! I took some initial tests to check source water with my new test kit (didn't bother with the FC/CC or CYA testing, since none of those have been added yet), and came up with: TC: less than .5 pH: 7.2 TA: 30 CH: 60...

Damp spot next to new AG pool

Whew - ok. At least I'm sure it's not the liner. We finally got the electric all finished and plugged in the pump. The return fitting/hose clamp thingie on the outside of the pool is dripping a little, which is causing the damp spot. Not a ton, about one drop every two seconds. (Last night it...

Damp spot next to new AG pool

Thanks, everyone! Definitely feel better that it's most likely something minor. I went home at lunch and the damp ground looked like it was drying up. I'll check again after work and if it's still not dry, will try to trace it back.

Damp spot next to new AG pool

Of course I'm at work right now or I could check easier, but does the return fitting just screwtwist onto the hose? Could a slightly loose screwtwist cause a minor leak, or would it definitely be a liner issue in that case? I'm hoping not to have to call the installer back in - work's getting...

Damp spot next to new AG pool

Our new 18' round AG pool was installed on Monday, and last night while in the yard, I noticed a damp area of dirt underneath the return hose, against the pool. We just finished filling it yesterday, and are waiting for the electrical to be completed still, so the pump and filter haven't been...

Waste - thanks!! That sounds more like it on the gallons. Iggy - So, how's the salt-marinated rattlesnake taste on the grill? :D No rattlers in this part of VA, thankfully.

Grace - the Poolcalculator is awesome! Thanks to you (and Jason!) Joyce - Always worth a mention - I'll be sure to keep those two far, far away from one another :). Kaboom isn't a good thing!!!

    Wendynat

Thanks again, everyone! Iggy - Sorry that I missed one of the first questions... the SWG is just a small one, not plumbed in-line. The pool store included it in the package to sweeten the deal, so I'm pretty sure it's the Chlor-Ease brand that's 200 or so retail. We'll see how well it works...

    Wendynat

Thanks for the welcome, everyone! Sorry about the lack of details - the pool is a 54", 18' round. I haven't gone to the pool calculator to figure out gallons, but I'm guesstimating around 9K or so? I talked to the installer last night, and they'll be coming Monday afternoon. Woo! I'll ask...
