Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

Wow, your own liner change! That must have been a project. What resource did you use (if any) to learn how to do that? Any particular page you could point me to to learn more about foam cove and wall foam?

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

That was my thinking exactly. Thank you. If we do stick around, I sure hope I could get a new liner installed for less than $5K... but maybe I'm dreaming.

What's the purpose of a cover pump for an AGP with a mesh cover?

Ah ha! Amazing. To be crystal clear: you don't think I need a cover pump for my mesh cover. Correct?

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

That makes sense-- the socks/sand approach is smart. My experience with adding CYA to the pool (via the sock method) should have made me think of this... This is all pointing towards a new liner in the not-too-distant future, wouldn't you say? Particularly if we ever want to sell this house!

What's the purpose of a cover pump for an AGP with a mesh cover?

This is only my second winter with a pool, so forgive me if I'm missing something there. We've got a mesh cover, which is -- as I understand it -- one of two common types of cover (the other being a solid cover). Mesh covers are water permeable. That being the case... is there any use for a pump...

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

Yes, I think that's right (based on my experience, at least). I went back and removed the piece of flex seal; it came off sorta easily, I have to say. I applied two patches (one slightly larger than the tear, and one over that which went past the edge of the first patch by about 0.75" on all...

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

Thanks. So far my take on the flex seal is that it's an OK temporary solution, but definitely not a candidate for a permanent fix. There's definitely still a small leak. Thank you for the tip regarding Boxer brand; I'll get some right now! Will report back after I've put the better patch in...

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

I got the 8” width, white, “as seen on TV” type (I did zero research on what the best product to use would be… just rushed to the Home Despot and looked for waterproof tape). So far so good, I guess? Felt kind of temporary when I put it down, but the water level didn’t change overnight, sooo…...

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

Thank you! I will go back to apply a 2nd patch today (I got one piece of flex tape down asap last night, on the advice of a friend who was visiting). Wish I had known about the trick of having someone hold you down... it was definitely a struggle, particularly because the rip is near-ish the...

Liner tear: How much trouble / expense am I looking at here?

So I made a stupid mistake and left my (cheapo) vacuum going all night last night, since I wanted to clear the pool thoroughly before closing it this week. I woke up to find that the vacuum had gotten stuck to the bottom and ripped a hole in the liner. There was (and still is) a good deal of...

    Totally agree, on all counts!

    Vacation plan: thoughts on super-shocking?

Hahaha… phew! Thanks for clarifying. For a minute there I thought I had REALLY missed the TFP boat… I can do some googling, but: Earlier you mentioned using a 30% multiplier when doing a FC-loss calculation as related to CYA; I’m wondering if it’s possible to dial that number in a bit more...

    Vacation plan: thoughts on super-shocking?

Wait… SLAM levels all the time?? That’s a new one for me. Pool Math app has “recommended” and “target” numbers, and then a SLAM toggle (which is, obviously, much higher than either “recommended” or “target”). What would be the point of the R or T numbers if we’re supposed to be at SLAM levels of...

    Vacation plan: thoughts on super-shocking?

Hi all, I’m sure this has been discussed before, but after diligently searching the forums (I read through several old threads), I couldn’t find a clear answer! Sorry if I missed it somehow. My daily FC loss is 2-3ppm (it’s rarely 1ppm, on low use/low sun days, and it’s rarely 4ppm on high...

Newbie AGP owner: need help dealing with too much rainwater

That's what I suspected-- thanks! Is there any reason to opt for using the pump to drain the pool (over a siphon) in my situation? I guess I'd accomplish this by decoupling the return hose from the pool and, by using a hose clamp and some extra pump hose I have in the garage, extending the...

Newbie AGP owner: need help dealing with too much rainwater

Hi-- this is my first major storm as an AGP owner! I may or may not be appropriately worried... Thank you in advance for any and all advice! I read through @SuzfromTexas 's guidance in Preparation for hurricane/tropical storm, and I can't quite understand some of the instructions. There's...

    Pool Math........The App

That makes perfect sense to me! And to be clear, the way the app and forum and guides work together right now — with no further changes — is really spectacular. I can’t believe it took me so long to find TFP. That said, as currently written, wouldn’t the explanatory text on the “TA is too...

    Pool Math........The App

Hi pool math app gurus-- I hope this idea doesn't seem like nitpicking. As a new user of both the app and a new-ish member of the website, I'm coming across little instances where it feels like the app could be more smoothly integrated with the vast store of knowledge that's contained on the...

    High TA but low Ph

MK, can you expand on this a bit? I've learned (from TFP!) that pH tends to gradually increase over time, all on its own... are you saying that TA will gradually be reduced over time, since you will be forced to periodically tamp down pH levels with additions of muriatic acid? Sort of a...

    Is this treatment plan ok?

Thanks! For FC and CYA, which I know are closely related, what's recommended? For example, say your CYA was too low, and your FC was also too low. I'd guess you'd get your CYA level up first, then deal with FC once you have a solid reading for CYA... which, depending on whether you're using...
