    Optimal depth for returns?

Thinking again about this, in fact, if folks with large/deep pools would be willing to dive in a little and indeed take a sample in the deeper end, I would think that would make for an interesting experiment.. empirically validating how evenly chlorine disperse in water.... and it would be cool...

    Tf-100 / Taylor test interchangeability?

This is so helpful, thank you, Matt. Makes the kit way more cost-effective. I am sure I wouldnt test salinity that often, so knowing it still works okay, even if it lost some potency, after several years, is great!

    Optimal depth for returns?

I don't mean to sound like I'm not listening... and I am asking questions here to seek answers from expert folks such as yourself, so your answer is truly appreciated... but I like to think part of my brain still functions and I am looking to understand why this is the way you are saying it...

    Optimal depth for returns?

Okay. Does pool size / water volume impact your assessment though? I can see how in a smaller pool, 2-3 returns can create enough movement for chlorine to disperse and mix up in the entire water volume. But how about with 20k+ gallons with 7' or 8'+ deep end? that's a lot of water there.. if you...

    Optimal depth for returns?

I have no clue if there is a scientific basis to this but... if one has a few returns 12-18" below the surface, angled so they circle around surface water for the skimmers to work, and the skimmers suck away those top 2" or so of surface water.... then, it would seem to me that the system puts...

New build starting in 3 months - pls critique PB's design/suggestions!

Thank you - yes, groundwater drainage similar to what you suggested is planned for. Glad to see that mitigates my concerns!

    Tf-100 / Taylor test interchangeability?

I was of the understanding that the 1766's reagents had the usual 1-2yr expiry date.. Does this mean that, as long as you store the 1766 properly (indoors, stable temp, etc), you can ignore the expiry date and keep using it for "years"? I am asking because in Canada the 1766 kit is indeed very...

    Tf-100 / Taylor test interchangeability?

I read that the reagents are identical.. are they 100%? If I already have an old Taylor kit (2006), and I buy a new TF-100 (or just the TF-100 refills), could I use the TF-100 reagents with the Taylor tubes and comparators I still have from my old kit? And if so, would I do that following...

New build starting in 3 months - pls critique PB's design/suggestions!

Most helpful - thx for the detailed advice on the workings of autofill and the (lack of) value in drains. Here is a thought, on the value of main drains. I understand (I think I do!) that in concrete or fiberglass pools main drains are a must because they allow for a hydrostatic valve to keep...

New build starting in 3 months - pls critique PB's design/suggestions!

WRT getting rid of the main drains, I get the potential failure point with extra pipes and leaks, and I understand there is an element of safety... but what are the downsides? I am using a big, well-established pool builders that's been building vinyl pools over here for 80 years... there's got...

New build starting in 3 months - pls critique PB's design/suggestions!

thank you. any thoughts on the equipment are most appreciated. i'm v new here but wealth of knowledge seems truly impressive. btw, if anyone knows how to get Taylor kits in Canada (k2006) for a decent price would love to know as well... found some US imports but seem to run ~CAD300+ a piece...

New build starting in 3 months - pls critique PB's design/suggestions!

Hello Masters TFPers! My pool design is virtually complete, with build scheduled for spring 2021, and I have a different view WRT equipment compared to what PB has suggested. I have tried to read the entire forum over the past few months (!) and here are my thoughts based on what I think I...

the math of SWG chlorine production

I didnt think about this at all. I will need to research this a bit to figure it out I guess. Sure will use the pool math app, but I like to understand the logic behind the app rather than just blindly using its output.. thx for your suggestion

the math of SWG chlorine production

Thx so much for addressing my questions quickly. Glad I'm starting to get the hang of this. I will play around with pool math and the SWG spreadsheet you linked till i figure out the right ratios.

the math of SWG chlorine production

Hi there - first poster here. Incredible forum - thx so much to the brains out there contributing! Have been reading up voraciously to educated myself as I am in the process of having my first pool built - which is still a few months away from completion. I'm currently finalizing design and...
