Alkali Staining and Sealing Limestone WaterLine Tiles

Thanks. This is not yellowing. It is 'browning' of the stone where water is pulled up to the surface and then evaporates. "Alkali stain is caused by alkali-containing moisture moving through the limestone from the back side or bottom edge, depositing minerals on the face of the stone as the...

Alkali Staining and Sealing Limestone WaterLine Tiles

So here is a question - how do you seal your waterline tile? I made the mistake of using white limestone for both my waterline tile and my coping. The issue with this is the coping will get brown alkali stains on it every couple of months and the only way to clean it is with muriatic acid -...

    Cleaning Linestone Coping/Water Walls

Seems to be conflicting information on what can and cannot be used to clean limestone. My coping and hot tub and water wall are all white limestone. Panel has been down for about a week. Hopefullly repaired today. I am seeing some calcium buildup. Other than just scrapping it off with a paint...

Strange issue - Pentair LED Pool lights shining green, not white

Strange issue - Pentair LED Pool lights shining green, not white

All levels within values we use on this forum..but current values are a moot point now aren't they? If the lenses have 'changed' over time water chemistry today doesn't really matter, right?

Strange issue - Pentair LED Pool lights shining green, not white

Just checked one is def more green than the other in the pool...and both in the pool are greener than the one in the hottub. All on white on control panel.

Stenner Acid Pump up and running

I would love an instruction to do this...I am pretty handy! I assume you buy the pump, plumb it into existing PVC lines and provide power. I will probably use an outlet and not tie it into my intellicenter So I would use an old school lamp timer for control. I am not looking for precise...

Strange issue - Pentair LED Pool lights shining green, not white

I have been slowly noticing the two LED pool lights are shing more of a green than a white...the water is clear. Has never needed shocked in a year. Have never had cloudy water. Any ideas? Lens dirty or something? If so, a way to clean? Warranty claim? The lights are definetely on white...

Water going thru SWCG without it on - PH?

So here is an idea!!!! If chlorine tablets contain acid (I DID NOT know this) why not keep the tablet dispenser full with tablets and have it barely open to always add a little chlorine and acid while the pool is running..whether the SWCG is on or not.

Water going thru SWCG without it on - PH?

The only water I have moving when I have SWCG on is a VERY gentle roll of water from hot tub down a short wall into the pool. The water disturbance is minimal. So based on 'SWCG' doesn't increase PH, then it makes sense to put SWCG as high as possible with absolute minimal pump run time, correct?

Water going thru SWCG without it on - PH?

That's interesting. Then why is the number one negative of SW pools is PH issues requiring addition of acid?

Water going thru SWCG without it on - PH?

So I have been wondering, is it better to run pumps longer with lower % of SWCG or shorter with higher % on the SWCG? If you are circulating water without the SWCG on, does the SWCG increase the PH even though it is off or does the SWCG only increase PH when it is on? If the PH increase is...

Want to be able to turn heater without having to use SWCG?

I have an Intellicenter. When in pool or spa mode the SWCG is on. When in either pool or spa mode I have the option to turn the heater on or off via the app. What I want to be able to do is turn on a pump and the heater when not in pool or spa mode in order to heat the pool overnight and not...

Want to be able to turn heater without having to use SWCG?

My system is set up such that under Pool and Spa there is a Toggle for Heater Off or Heater On. The only issue is when I turn the Pool on, the SWCG kicks on.....I have a feature called 'Pool Flow' that I use to just circulate water. How do can I also toggle heater on or off with the pump...

    Keeping calcium in water!!

Thanks. I would like to do a dosing system. What do u use? I don’t want to mess with the Pentair one.

    Acid injection?

If I want to dose approximately 2oz/day is there a pump / tank available to accomplish this? I am imagining a small tank with tubing to a pump. Then tubing into pvc. Might have to inject upstream of filter. With such a small amount I wouldn’t think this is an issue. The filter is full of water...

    Keeping calcium in water!!

Thanks. Yes. Higher ph and lower TA is a challenge. Keeping hardness down for me isn’t though. So maybe I should let CH get to around 250? I usually keep it around 400. And yes I get calcium buildup quick if I don’t keep ph under 7.6.

    Keeping calcium in water!!

We all know calcium deposits are a result of high pH. Many of you have advised to let saltwater pools rise up to 7.8 as that’s where they like settle. I add muriatic acid to keep it down around 7.4. For those of you that keep ph at 7.8 or 8.0, how do you prevent calcium build up?

    Glacier Pool Chiller DIY Install

I am waiting for another quote...$4500 for turnkey install is reasonable. ~$6000 is nuts.

    Glacier Pool Chiller DIY Install

Does the glacier also increase PH? Would assume so. I had a joker call me today and quote me $5800 to install a GPC25. Scope was the cooler, two automated valves, a 2x2 pad, a larger relay board ($800) for intelligent and some PVC. $3500 at most for materials. $2300 for 3-5 hours work. Nope.

    Glacier Pool Chiller DIY Install

Following this. I am hoping performance gets better than 89-85 overnight. I am still considering this but I can get that with the three PVC pipes with holes drilled into them. One off each return going 3-4” above water line and then spraying across pool during the night.

    Glacier Pool Chiller DIY Install

Still educating myself on this...when the Glacier is installed, there is an supply valve and a discharge valve (along with a check valve and a trim valve). IF the glacier is not tied into the control system of the pool, do you have to manually go out to the unit each night to turn it on and...

Considering a heat pump (reverse) for cooling pool....don't see any threads?

Does't seem like a lot of people talk about heat pumps for cooling their pool. Why is that? I know about the option of evaporative cooler but that drives up PH and there is very little control over an evaporative cooler. With a heat pump I can set water temp to 86F and forget about it...and I...

    Glacier Pool Chiller in FL?

I'm not saying they are bad by any means, I just know that a 5% difference in humidity will have a notable affect. Travertine 'holding water'?

Thanks....so from what you can tell the pool builder hasn't done anything 'wrong' other than saying I was getting travertine (which I assume this would not have occurred) and I ended up with limestone.

    Travertine 'holding water'?

Here are some more pics putting limestone on....There is something put on the gunite (it appears green in second pic) before putting on the thin set but what has been done has been done. I know for a fact the PB isn't going to do anything to resolve the issue if something was done wrong. I...
