Good to know SS, thanks. The strain relief seems pretty rugged where the cord connects on mine. Some additional insurance might be securing the cord to the handle with zip ties, so strain on the cord would hit the handle rather than the cord connection.

That's a good point Dirk. Instructions have you pull the robot to the side of the pool with the cord, but using it as a regular tether may be too much.

That's a great thought, using the cord as a "leash". I wonder they make invisible fences for pool robots?? The other end doesn't have steps, but does have the auto cover housing. I've always fed the cord from the shallow end (with the bad bench) so it could be cleaning with the cover closed...

Hi Jim, Thanks for the reply. It happens consistently within the 2" or so range of water level. I thought it might be only when the cover was closed, but it shuts down regularly with the cover open also.

Hi, She/it is a Maytronics Dolphin, and does a good job until crawling up on an 18" high step or bench. She then spins her treads for a bit, and quits. This can be 5 minutes or an hour into the cleaning cycle, whenever she gets on the ledge. Occasionally she climbs down and goes back to...

Thought I would update how all this has been working out, with thanks for all the good guidance I was given here. In a word, great. We have a 20x40 35K gallon pool, and wanted to extend the season on both ends without going broke. I was given some personalized info, and read a million threads...

I haven't yet bought a winter cover, or installed the auto cover. For this winter it will either be the auto cover or a tarp, as the pavers won't be installed until next year. So that's a good thought, that a solid cover would allow the water level to stay higher. Does the cover pump work well...

Safe from ice, anyway. I pulled one cord through the conduit, and the cord seems very tough and durable. I also pulled it back out, but that's another story (the shaft on the lights does not fit in a 1.5" schedule 40 PVC male thread adapter (!) I have to drill out the adapter, or re-plumb...

Good point though, about the cover letting wind through. So it seems like leaving the lights in and keeping the water level significantly higher than the lights is a decent strategy, and the super-safe idea would be to pull out the lights and cords, and blow out and plug the conduits.

Thanks wireform. During a cold winter in ME with little snow cover, frost in the ground can go down 48" or so, which is code here for frost protection. How deep does ice in a pool typically get in the Northeast? And a little follow up: I spoke with two Florida Sunseekers reps again today...

That's a great point, that the wire - which is a good 1/2" thick and feels like soft rubber - can absorb the expansion of the ice (assuming some water somehow gets into the conduit). What about ice movement in the pool damaging the light fixture itself?
