Time of day to add chemicals

Hello, I try to add chlorine in the evening, when the pool is not in direct sunlight. I am wondering whether this practice should also be followed for muriatic acid and/or CYA? Thank you.

    Is this algae?

Good, thank you for asking. I need to tweak some of my chemical levels and hopefully I'll be good for a while.

Expected rates of chemical changes in Arizona summer

Thank you very much for the responses. I have been adding a gallon of liquid chlorine each day, and I don't recall having to do it that often in previous years. My levels today were: FC 7.5 pH 8.2 TA 80 CH 300 CYA 30 My plan is to raise CYA to at least 50 so hopefully I won't have to use as...

    Is this algae?

Thank you, all, for the responses. I think there was discoloration in that same area before I had some refinishing done on the fiberglass coating, so it probably just bled through.

Expected rates of chemical changes in Arizona summer

My FC, pH and CYA change over time. FC goes down over time, pH goes up over time, and CYA goes down over time. I had some leaks that were fixed and I am wondering if I still have a leak and/or if I am not maintaining proper levels. What should I expect during an Arizona summer (100 degrees F...

    Is this algae?

Hello, I have been SLAMming my pool for at least a week now. The water and walls/bottom have cleared up nicely except for one spot. It is about 1.5 feet below the deep-end return, and it looks yellowish/brownish to me. I've been brushing the pool, including this area, during the SLAM, and I...

Time for pool chemicals to fully integrate?

Thank you. I'm going back to the sock method.

Time for pool chemicals to fully integrate?

Thank you. I found where I read that info: What is up with the CYA in a sock?

Time for pool chemicals to fully integrate?

Thank you. I used to use the sock method but after getting a cartridge filter, I switch to just pouring the cya directly into the skimmer (someone told me that's okay). Is it better to use the sock method with a cartridge filter?

    Safely adding liquid chemicals

I used to pour liquid chlorine standing up at arms length. I would get some splashes on my legs while wearing shorts but I didn't worry too much about that. Later on, I realized it was splashing up as far as my shirts (and ruining them). Since then, I bend over and try to get the bottle close...

Time for pool chemicals to fully integrate?

How long after adding chemicals does it take for them to get fully mixed in the pool, so that you can test the new level accurately? In case it's different for different chemicals, I am particularly interested in liquid chlorine, muriatic acid, and cya (which I put in the skimmer). My pool is...

    How to Restart Pool

Hello, my pool (gunite with fiberglass coating) was recently drained to fix some leaks. It is now in the process of getting refilled. Is there a recommended procedure for restating chemicals, i.e. when to start, what to start with, etc?

    Fiberglass pool leak(s)

Update: Good news. I found a local company that works on fiberglass. They drained the pool, patched the light area, covered the main drain, and patched a few other areas. They said the fiberglass coating was done well and that I should get at least 5 more years from it. The pool is in...

    Fiberglass pool leak(s)

Thank you for the info! Yes, it is a gunite pool with a fiberglass coating. I don't know what the original coating was (plaster or vinyl), or if it matters? I didn't realize the distinction (fiberglass pool versus gunite with fiberglass coating) until today, lol.

    Fiberglass pool leak(s)

Thank you. The pool was originally built around 1980. I'm not sure when it was redone with fiberglass but I'm guessing it was early 1990's. It's not clear to me if there are actually a lot of structural cracks or just a few. I've been calling pool repair companies and a lot of them don't...

    Fiberglass pool leak(s)

Hello. I have one or more leaks in my fiberglass pool. The pump and auto-filler are off. The pool has been draining about 2 inches per day. I hired a company that said on their website that they detect leaks and fix leaks, but it turns out that they don't fix leaks, or at least not if you...
