Pentair VSF 011056 with Jandy iAquaLink - flow control not working, speed setting only

Thank you @mknauss ! The odd thing is that the VF has been working just fine with the older pump model, so Pentair must have changed something in the protocol going over the RS-485 interface with the 011056 model. I'm tempted to get myself a serial protocol analyzer to figure out what's...

Pentair intelliflo/ Jandy Aqualink communicating but won’t change speed.

I think I have the same problem - VF control worked with the previous model - the Pentair VF 011012 (mine from 2008), but not with the new 011056 - I guess they changed the RS 485 protocol just enough to break it for VF.

Pentair VSF 011056 with Jandy iAquaLink - flow control not working, speed setting only

Hi there, similar to this 2018 thread, Intelliflo VSF & iAqualink I just replaced my dead Pentair VF 3050 (011012?) with the current model VSF 011056. Now my iAqualink Controller cannot set the flow rate anymore. I'm running it now as VS with fixed RPM settings (after figuring out the RPM for...

Pressure vs. robotic cleaners - for IG pool which gets lots of leaves in the fall

Hi everbody, after 8 years or so our trusty Hayward Phantom Turbo (pressure side) cleaner is finally giving up the ghost - the outlet that propels water from the bottom of the cleaner does not turn on anymore, and it has a few other nagging issues - so I want to replace it wither with a new...

    Leak detection

Thanks Ripper70- for us it seems to be on the skimmer side where it is leaking. Unfortunately the plumbing is almost entirely under a stone patio ... so I can't see evidence of excess moisture. I'll have to try to eliminate possibilities before I start chopping up the deck. Installing the stone...

    Leak detection

Good point, thanks! Yes there is still water in the skimmer bucket. I thought I'd be able to see if water was leaking there by dropping in food coloring but to no avail. To test the theory if the skimmer bucket is leaking we installed the gizmo in the skimmer in question and added water to the...

    Leak detection

Hi Everyone, I'm hoping to get some help finding a leak in my pool ... After opening the pool and having it acid washed for the first time in the seven years that we have the pool, I now have the first leak in my inground plaster pool. I had a suspicion it might be losing water on Friday so I...

Jandy PDA RS8 giving up the ghost ..

Just wanted to let y'all know I reached out to pool supply world with technical questions - an expert called me back right away - he knew his stuff, was helpful and I ordered the iAqualink 2.0 on the spot. Ordered it last Friday - he said it might take until the following week Wed-Friday to...

Jandy PDA RS8 giving up the ghost ..

Hi Everyone, I have a Jandy PDA-RS8 PDA from 2008 which is giving me trouble - here is the original thread. http://www.troublefreepool.com/threads/3765-New-pool-in-Princeton-NJ-this-summer Apparently the relay that controls the solar valve (little black box on the back of the power board)...

Hayward 6060 booster pump - replace seal or bearings ... ?

Re: Hayward 6060 booster pump - replace seal or bearings ... Thanks! I wasn't able to find parts diagrams for this motor - what is a good place to find these bearings / what are the specs? OK, I'll also replace the seal at the same time ... Is it the 6203 type bearings? I saw them offered for...

    Single Speed Vs. IntelliFlo

I should mention I set the pump to go to 40GPM when solar is on for best efficiency, and 50GPM when the waterfall is running. It's really nice to have the most efficient setting used automatically.

    Single Speed Vs. IntelliFlo

I have run the IntelliFlo for five years. Had to replace the controller once, last year. It's not that cheap, but I can run it at 25 GPM at under 200 watts these days - a bit more if I haven't cleaned the filter for a while. It works great even when run from a Jandy controller & remote. It's...

Hayward 6060 booster pump - replace seal or bearings ... ?

Hi Everyone, we got 5 years of life out of our Hayward 6060 booster pump (running a phantom turbo cleaner). Lately the pump got loud and hot and soon trip the breaker (it has a separate breaker). I wonder if the most likely case is a shot seal or blown bearings. I would prefer to attempt the...

Cloudiness at lower FC, clorine consumption

Great - thank you! I guess I didn't kill all the organics the first time around. I'll get them this time and make sure I'll include the OCLT as well.

Cloudiness at lower FC, clorine consumption

Thanks - so is there invisible algae somewhere? The water looks fine and there is no hint of green - the water just gets cloudy/milky at low FC ... So should I just shock to 20-30 PPM FC to kill the buggers? The chlorine vendors will love me!

Cloudiness at lower FC, clorine consumption

Hi Everyone, recently our pool water has given us trouble - was not an issue for the last 5 years that we have had the pool. Issue: Even at 100% output, the SWG is not keeping up with the chlorine consumption. (We replaced the cell last year.) Water became cloudy, FC to 1.0, so I shocked...

Good caulk to use between coping and deck

Duraleigh, folks on this forum (including yourself, naturally) have been extraordinarily helpful throughout our pool build - so thanks a lot for your continued support ! It made all the difference getting the pool in without any major issues. Can't wait to open the pool again in May ! Thanks...

Good caulk to use between coping and deck

I ended up using deck-o-seal which I bought from my local Leslie's. I had put a felt/tar strip between the coping and the pavers, and I filled the rest up with sand to a consistent depth (using a broom), put wide masking tape on both sides of the joint and poured the deck-o-seal in. I needed 3...

Telescopic Pole - where to get a decent one ?

Yes good point about the temperature. We almost had frost tonight, today we are closing the pool and my hands froze from skimming some leaves off the surface this morning. Also, fiberglass does not conduct electricity ... might come in handy, unlikely but still ...

Good caulk to use between coping and deck

Hi all, Now that the pool is done I still need to fill the gap between the travertine coping and the travertine pavers ... I have heard good things about deck-o-seal (expensive stuff !) but also read that Sikaflex-1CSL might be an option. The gap is a bit uneven - 1/2" to 1" wide and of...

Questions about Solar and PVC crush resistance

Hi Eric all in my signature - 750 sq ft free form, 480 sq ft solar as recommended by the installer. Sounds like such a system might work well for you - but for a 40K gal pool you may want to use more panels than I have to heat the water quickly - 600 - 800 sq ft I would say. It will take some...

Questions about Solar and PVC crush resistance

It works great ! We can gain 3-8 deg F in a day although there are lots of tall trees around. It also cools the house so we don't need A/C. Very important to lengthen the short pool season in NJ. The pool get's 1/3 exposure to sun - and that only part of the day - and the roof faces mostly east...

Questions about Solar and PVC crush resistance

Pooltime, (odd - the url did not go through in my previous post) I used SolarSwim - solarswim dot net - to supply panels and install end-to-end. I had a challenge initially scheduling their installation (busy season I suppose) - but they eventually came out and did a fine job from all I can...

Given the choice, owuld you chose marcite or tile?

If possible I would have done glass mosaic tile ! I've seen gorgeous pools done that way. Tile will last forever, have a smooth surface that discourages algae settling in, but they can be slippery (only an issue in shallow areas where people walk around). Some commercial pools use special...
