Intex sand filter air relief valve letting air in, not letting air out

Ah ok, yes it is the valve on the top of the pump strainer basket. I had read somewhere else that I thought it was supposed to expel the water. Good to know that it isn't supposed to do that when running. Someone in another thread had recommended that I bleed air from my pump when vacuuming my...

Intex sand filter air relief valve letting air in, not letting air out

I will have to take a photo of the setup to show. It's always done that since using this sand filter, which I started using after replacing the crappy cartridge filter the pool came with last year

Intex sand filter air relief valve letting air in, not letting air out

I only ever disconnect things when having to vacuum the pool, I have to disconnect the intex skimmer to block one inlet and hook the vacuum up to the other pump. The hoses don't seem to be directional at all and no I haven't disconnected them. Like I said, it works and runs normally fine and...

Intex sand filter air relief valve letting air in, not letting air out

I have an intex sand filter with the clear lid on the pump filter basket assembly. The pump filter basket is typically full with water with barely a tiny air pocket at the very top and I hear no surging. When I turn the air relief valve while the pump is running, it actually sucks air IN to the...

Above ground Coleman pool, when hooking up vacuum, pump starts surging because of lower water level

I definitely do the slowly submerging the hose a little at a time so it is fully submerged before starting. But after hooking it up and while vacuuming the hose will start to float to the surface. I'm not sure where the air is getting in. The vacuum is still working. Could it possibly be coming...

Above ground Coleman pool, when hooking up vacuum, pump starts surging because of lower water level

Hi all, I have a 22" above ground Coleman pool with the 2 inlet openings. One of those is the basic typical inlet with the cover over it that stops large things from being sucked in. The other is hooked up to my intex skimmer. I am using an intex sand filter/pump. The problem arises when I go...

Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

I will definitely look around more. I've been searching online first and walking in to my local hardware store I always buy it from. They said early on they are seeing a big shortage so I bought 4 cases. I'm half through that already and they are all out now so I got worried it was a wide shortage.

Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

Odd huh. I was able to find a hardware store two towns over that has a box of 4 liquid chlorine bottles in stock so I'll grab that and then start looking for plain old bleach. Thanks for the tips. It was the percentage and other additives that I wasn't sure about.

    Shocking pool before vacation

I understand the TFP terminology. I was just more asking if SLAM was analogous to shock. Thanks for the help

Coming chlorine shortage? - It is Here!

I've stabilized my pool (a bit on the lower side I believe it's at 30-40) and have been putting in liquid chlorine daily (10%). I have about 8 bottles left which probably will last me maybe until end of July. I can't find any more near me. If I am unable to find it, what would you suggest I use...

That's what I figured, I just wanted to be sure. I also hate inexact terms. Thanks for the speedy reply!

    Shocking pool before vacation

I've read posts where it seems most people are suggesting to cover the pool (I have a 22" above ground Coleman pool) and shock it. So my question is, do I raise it to SLAM level? Or above? What does it really mean to "shock" it?

    Question about chlorine level

I looked it up. I'm using 10% sodium hypochlorite which is just bleach. I'll try to start following what the Effects of Adding option recommends to increase my FC levels. I'm just about at 7 now (6.9) so I added 2.5 cups to bring it to a little above 8. Thanks for all the help! For people who...

    Question about chlorine level

So I use the "Effects of Adding" option? According to that, if I'm choosing the right sanitizer option (bleach - I'm adding 10% liquid chlorine - I have to check the bottle), it says I have to add like 40+ ounces to raise the FC just 3 ppm. I'm going to go through a lot more bottles of chlorine...

Ok thanks I didn't realize the pool math app would tell me. I have been somewhat guessing. Thanks!

    Question about chlorine level

So I've been adding about 2.5 cups each night based on the bottle saying that's what you should add to a stabilized pool, and I've been measuring in the mornings. Today, I measured the chlorine at night, it had dropped to about 2.6 ppm I believe. Based on some calculation I looked up that said...

    Question about chlorine level

Thanks, that's what I was trying to figure out. I want to start the day potentially higher than the 7 range so it will drop down into the optimal range, not below it. thank you!

    Question about chlorine level

I thought I was. I know 5 is on the low side of the optimal levels. My question was, should I raise it some more now so it's not depleted by tonight? Or just let it drop throughout the day, and replenish tonight? It's my first year with the pool. And I've just started using liquid chlorine...

    Question about chlorine level

Hi all, Thanks for all your help so far. My levels are almost where I want them. TA is about 50. pH is low at 7.0 (Going to raise that today probably). CYA is 40. I've been adding liquid chlorine nightly lately. Last night I added some. This morning my FC is at 5. It's on the low side. I...

    Question about safe chlorine levels

Thank you! Rather than start a new thread I'll ask here since it's sort of related. I finally tested my TA, I hadn't before. It's at 30. pH is low around 7. Should I raise those levels? Do I buy oh up? Use baking soda? Or soda ash?

    Question about safe chlorine levels

The cya chart says that at a cya of 40 I should maintain between 5-7 ppm of chlorine. But most places I read say anything above 5 or 6 is unsafe. I am finishing a SLAM process (I think I'm finished lol) so my chlorine level is up around 10 right now, waiting for it to come down to a safe level...

Sorry, I checked the bottle for the amount. Can't delete my last comment for some reason

Low to almost zero free chlorine

I hear ya. I thought that if it had stabilizer it would have said it on the package. Question: For a 10,000 gallon pool, how much liquid chlorine do I add to raise the FC to at least close to 20? And do I just pour it in near the water return slowly?

Is this dichlor? I can't tell.

Low to almost zero free chlorine

Thanks. Will give this a try. I turned off my pool filter timer so it will run continuously. I bought a couple gallons of liquid chlorine. I still had 2 bags of granulated shock so I started with those, just put those in now to hopefully raise my level up to about 20 (based on chart with CYA...

Low to almost zero free chlorine

So I can't just increase the chlorine level or how I'm adding chlorine? Have to do the SLAM? Sounded complicated. I'll look it up

Low to almost zero free chlorine

Hi, I haven't been rigorously testing my water for a couple weeks. The pool water seemed clear so I didn't worry. Today, we noticed patches of greenish algae forming in a new spots on the floor of the above ground pool. So we vacuumed it up (last vacuumed just 5 days ago and those patches...
