Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

Thanks so much. I apologize--let me clarify--you would add it today or tomorrow (or both)? Will a high FC hurt the vinyl liner? I feel like I've added so much chlorine lately, and being so new at water chemistry and owning a vinyl lined pool, I just want to make sure I understand.

Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

Awesome, thank you. I really appreciate the help. About adding chlorine, I'm assuming that I should go ahead and add the gallon tomorrow if i don't add it today? I did view the video just now--very helpful. I really love the app so far.

Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

Today's readings (still using strips until I get my TF100 kit tomorrow): TC - 10 FC - 4 pH - 7.4 TA - 210 CH - 1000 CYA - 300 CSI - .44 BOR - unsure Temp - 79 F I know I can't do much about the CYA until I get my new test kit, but the chlorine seems really high. In order to protect my pool...

Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

Okay awesome. I was thinking that about the CH now that I am getting more familiar with different chlorines. Okay, good to know. So two good reasons to drain a few times and refill. Thanks Mknauss.

I was too. I did another Aquacheck test on my fill water and here are the results, just for grins and giggles. Total Hardness: 250-500 TC: 0 FC: 0 Ph: 7.8-8.4 (strip) 8.27 (digital) TA: 120 CYA: 0

How about 6% or 8% chlorine bleach? I have those on hand, as well as one lb. of HTH Super Shock (52023; calcium hypochlorite 56.44%). This shock is what I used to kill the algae last week. So I don't need to worry about the heat drying out my liner at all?

Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

Yeah, I will wait to drain it probably until next week when it will be 10-15 degrees cooler. That way I can know what I'm really looking at. For now, though, I am not sure if I should keep chlorinating the pool, or just leave it until I can do the draining next week?

Lowering CYA in an above ground pool

I've been trying to clear up my pool for nearly this whole month and I'm getting closer to finding answers, but I am still in problem solving mode. I have my TF100 Test Kit on the way (will be delivered Friday), so today I'm just using AquaCheck 7 Way Test Strips to get an idea of where I'm at...

Awesome, thank you so much, Richard. Hmm. I would love to quit worrying about the TA, but it's at 310 this morning. I have had a hugely difficult time getting my ph into acceptable range, and I used a ton of ph up a few days ago (I used those HTH Pods). It seems like it didn't do ANYTHING...

Sweet, so if I purchase the TF100, I can use the reagents from my Taylor kit if I run out? My pool isn't greenish now, it's just cloudy. The alkalinity is way too high because I've been having Ph issues. I'm learning, but it's just going to be slow going I think to fix it. I should probably...

Also, is the Taylor K2006C the same as the K2006 Complete kit? Here's the one I'm looking at: NEW TAYLOR K-2006 Complete Swimming Pool/Spa Test Kit FAS-DPD K2006 Chlorine - Walmart.com

Thanks guys. Can I ask, which test kit is most well-rounded? I don't know enough to know which kit is best, even with reading the article. The reason, I think, is because I don't know how many times I need to run each test. I apologize if this is a weird or dumb question.

Hey all, I've had my above ground pool for about 19 months and have never really gotten the water balanced. I'm finally feeling like I'm getting some understanding of water chemistry, but I'm facing some issues that I'm hoping to get help with. My water isn't balanced as of yet, but once it is...
