    white clouds while brushing

Hi - sorry it took so long, got swamped at work. Thanks! I looked at the video and read a bit around. I thought dead algae carcasses might just dissolve with the clorine; is that wrong? Below you'll find a picture of the top of my filter (no, the pump was not running). The pool inspector...

pump times for different chlorination methods

Thank you! So, I'm going to use a floater. Good catch. Beyond that, any suggestions as to whether I would run it during the day vs. during the night?

    white clouds while brushing

Hi all, hope you guys had a great weekend! So, here's the tests results with CSI included: - FC 7.6 - pH 7.3 (I just added soda ash) - TA 80 - CH 220 - CYA 45 - TEMP 31C - CSI -0.41 Does this tell you anything about whether these clouds could be a sign of some damage in progress?

pump times for different chlorination methods

Hi, I am trying to optimize the pump running time. Some background: the previous owner used to run the pump 24/7; there is only one working skimmer (the other was filled following a leak). Here's the question. Pool school says "It is important to remember that as the water temperature...

    white clouds while brushing

Hard indeed. The owner said it wasn’t painted. Now, while I wait for CSI, really the only concern is whether it could be anything that indicates a problem. If you guys can’t think of anything, that’s probably good enough.

    white clouds while brushing

Ok, pool thermometer on the way, will know CSI on Sunday or Monday. I'll read in the meantime a little more about it. A picture is below. Sorry it shows up gigantic - the forum system said not to shrink it or it might upload it incorrectly (tips welcome!) Also, here's a short video of the...

    white clouds while brushing

@needsajet: Before I vacuum, the pressure is around 20-21. After I vacuum in the morning, if I wait until the evening the pressure might get to 27-28. I backwash once per week after I vacuum. One (related?) thing I need to report is that the pool has only one working skimmer - the other one...

    white clouds while brushing

Hi all, I run the test, and lost 0.2ppm (at most) from 7.30pm to 6.30am. That seems fine to me. James, nice to meet you here at tfp. When I rub my hand I notice very small clouds, let's say half an inch wide. I have to rub hard to get them; but I see no residue on my hand.

    white clouds while brushing

Hi Richard, yes, I'll run the test tonight. I do vacuum every week. I can't say if the small clouds have been getting smaller, but that's another thing to track maybe.

    white clouds while brushing

Ah no sorry - of course I may loose little because I have the thrichlor tablets in the skimmer. Is it the same for the zero CC?

    white clouds while brushing

Nice to meet you too! hanks. I’ll do that tonight. I retested CH at 260, I must have done something wrong. Previous owner’s explanation of the white dust was indeed that it’s a residue of the powder shock he used to put. But I haven’t put it in for a month now. In the meantime, a couple of...

    do borates reduce calcium?

A follow-up question, if I may: if I want to add borates, can I just add boric acid? (https://www.chemistrystore.com/Chemicals_A-F-Boric_Acid.html) is there a reason to buy the more expensive Supreme Plus?

    white clouds while brushing

Hi, When I brush - especially if I do on the pool's bottom - small, white clouds appear and then go away. I've tried to browse the forum for similar problems but haven't found a solution. We have been in the house for just a month, so I'm just really taking control. Here's what I know: - the...

    do borates reduce calcium?

Hi, I've been thinking about adding borates and I've read the pool school and the forum sticky posts about that. One suggestion in that post is the Proteam Supreme Plus. The product description says that "water will feel softer, regardless of how hard it is". Does that mean the product...

testing for FC/CC: slight pink at the top of the water line

Right, and this is what the Taylor videos also show. I believe one other poster had the same issue some time ago - clear one side to the next, but very slight pink on the surface, when you look at it from below up.

testing for FC/CC: slight pink at the top of the water line

Thanks - that’s what I’ve been doing. Sometimes however it looks like that slight pinkish top never goes away even if the sample is clear; should I keep counting?

testing for FC/CC: slight pink at the top of the water line

Hi all, I have a couple of questions about testing for FC/CC which I haven't found answered in previous threads. I am using Taylor K2006C. When dropping R0871, the sample turns transparent if I look at the water against daylight; sometimes however the very top of the water has a light...

First test results on a pool

Got it, thanks. Now, this is a bigger issue. I just got the house and am first time pool owner. That means I just kept doing what the previous owner did, which is put chlorine tablets when necessary. Anyway, if I wanted to let FC drift down a bit, would I just stop putting the chlorine tablets?

First test results on a pool

Hi, I’m following up on the thread so that test results are there. I tested again - after scrubbing and vacuuming - and keep getting FC of 10 (CYA 45). CC < 5. is there such a thing as a “too high chlorine” to be safe to swim?

First test results on a pool

Thanks. I'll test the fill water (I don't know about the plumbing fixtures, we haven't even moved in).

First test results on a pool

Hey thanks. Yes, the water looks clear, and no, didn't use a Speedstir. The worry is about the CC reading, which seems a bit high, and I'm not sure I understand why. Do you have any sense of this? I'll check the scale buildup. How do I answer your question, "Do you have really hard fill water?"...

First test results on a pool

Hi all, we just got possession of a house with the pool and I did some testing. Here's what I have: - FC ~10ppm - CC ~0.6/0.8 ppm - CYA ~50 ppm - PH 7.2 - TA ~90 ppm - CH ~1300 ppm The reason I use the ~"about" symbol is that it's the first time testing for me, so I took several tests, and...

newbie questions on chlorine and sodium bisulfate

Thanks! This clarifies a bit. I thought sodium bisulfate was the same as dry acid, which is an option indicated in the Recommended Pool Chemicals which you have linked. I'll go back to that. Yes, about Amazon, I can see that. For now it's a starting point, and we're trying to stay distant from...
