    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

Success! It was a bit of a struggle with the heat and the SoCal fires, but the chlorine has been consistent at 11ppm for the last couple of days. Now I need to drop the chlorine level and add the correct amount of conditioner for the long run. Any suggestions on the perfect combination? The...

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

Quick question: I intend on beginning the SLAM process in the next day or so. It’s about time for a filter cleaning. Should I wait until after the SLAM or do it before? Also, I got my phosphate kit and tested; between 1000 and 2000 was the result. CYA is 60. Looks like I need to maintain a...

Okay, thank you. I’ll up the run time.

I run the pump for 8 hours at 2450 rpm.

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

I’m not sure how to do that. It is running at 80% right now and has been for a couple of months.

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

I ordered a phosphate test kit and a supply of CYA reagent for my Taylor K-2006 kit, so I can properly test the levels. I did run out to Leslie’s a few minutes ago and had the water tested. I know, not ideal, but I was curious. Their FC was close to my test (3.8) at 4.16, with a CC of 4.62...

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

Okay, slam it is. Unfortunately, I just raised my CYA to 80 a few weeks ago. I guess I need to lower it with a partial water change. How would I calculate how much water to change?

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

So, would treating the pool with an algaecide then using a phosphate remover be an acceptable approach? I’m a new pool owner (2 years) and have never dealt with this issue before. Based on what I’ve read on the forum and from advice from members, I have ignored the phosphate level and slowly...

    High phosphates and chlorine loss.

I am finding that my pool is dropping approximately 2ppm chlorine overnight (6.0 to 3.8) I know my phosphates are high in the 1500 range and I see a little green algae along one wall of the pool (shaded side) when I brush the pool at the end of the week. How should I approach this issue...

Jim, with the 15% discount it comes out to be $1130 plus tax.

Upgrading to automation ... couple of questions.

Jim, Ive done a lot more wiring than an outlet and a light switch, so that makes me feel very comfortable. The unit does come with two actuators; I confirmed that on Pentair’s website and also on Leslie’s (where I’m going to buy it with my 15% discount coupon 😜). The 240 comes in from below...

Upgrading to automation ... couple of questions.

Thanks, Jim. The new panel would be mounted where the old load center (on left) is situated (sorry about the ladder). I attached a better photo. The load center gets its 240 from the main electrical panel on the other side of the house. The original electrician told me he left plenty wire...

Upgrading to automation ... couple of questions.

I'm adding a Pentair Easy Touch 4 (part number 520538) to my pool/spa. I have reached out to a pool electrician and feel like I'm being fed a line. I have a 2 year old basic pool/spa, with no water features, Pentair VSF 3 hp pump, Glolite led lighting and an IC40. The IC40 and lighting have...

    Phosphates v chlorine question.

I recently had Leslie’s test my pool water. Showed phosphates over 1000 ppm. I have been noticing the chlorine has been difficult to balance. I have the swg set at 60% and it struggles to keep the chlorine level at 5 ppm. Current cya is 65; I know I need to raise it a little. Could the...

    Where to begin?

I did an overnight chlorine loss test a month or so ago and all was fine. I’ll do another this weekend, just to make sure. The water is very clear ... almost hurts your eyes to look through it ... 😉 I haven’t tested CH in several weeks, so I need to do that, too. I didn’t think that was a...

    Where to begin?

Okay, an update: FC=5.2 CC=0 pH=7.8 (maybe 7.9) Alk=90 I turned the SWG down to 40%, as it was pushing up into the 7.x range when set to 60%. Initially, when set to 40%, the FC dropped into the 3s, so I extended the run time from 6 to 8 hours. It’s been a week or so and seems to be settling...

Tested this morning. FC=5 pH=7.7 Alk=80 Thanks for all the info, Mdragger88, I’ll take your advice and monitor closely. Have a wonderful weekend!

    Where to begin?

Okay, added liquid chlorine early this morning. A recent test has the chlorine at 6.2. pH rose to 8.0, so I dosed the pool with Muriatic acid. I’ll test again tomorrow morning to see where the pH/alkalinity are.

    Where to begin?

Update: Here are today’s numbers: FC=3 CC=0 pH=7.7 Alk=80 CYA=75 CH=220 I haven’t adjusted the SWCG. It’s still running at 40%. Water is crystal clear ... I‘m very happy with the outcome. Much easier than I thought. Thanks to all who contributed their knowledge, it’s very appreciated!

    Where to begin?

I adjusted CYA today. I started with half the dose and will add the remainder at the weekend. I currently have the pump set to 6 hours at 2250 rpm (47 gallons per minute). The calculator advised 4.75 hours at 40% would be sufficient, so I think I’m on track. Thank you all for your input, its...

    Where to begin?

The pool is crystal clear. The FC level was around 4-5 ppm a couple of days ago, so I turned the SWCG down from 40% to 20%. I checked it this morning for the first time and got the 2.0 ppm. I think the drop was completely my fault, trying to tune in the SWCG. How do I determine liquid...

    Where to begin?

Update: I received the Taylor kit and here are the results: FC: 2.0 CC: 0 pH: 7.6 TA: 80 CH: 220 CYA: 30 I turned the SWCG up from 20% to 40% and will retest in a couple of days. What, if any, action should I take for now?

    Where to begin?

Thank you! I’m looking forward to it, to be honest. Since this COVID thing started, it has allowed me to be home when the pool guy arrived. In the 5 weeks I’ve been able to monitor his work, he’s never spent more than 5 minutes in my yard and has never picked up a pool brush. Fortunately...

    Where to begin?

I’m a new pool owner, who has decided to handle the maintenance of the pool/spa myself. I recently fired my pool guy, because of a not too stellar performance. I have purchased a Taylor K2006 test kit, which should be here on Wednesday, and am currently relying on Leslie’s for testing (I do...
