    Overly hot pool pump motor

The motor isn’t noisier than what it is supposed to be. My worry is if I change impeller and save 1-2amps, will the motor still be almost as hot and only turn back on once the thermal protection has cooled off. In other words I’d still be stuck with the same problem and know that it IS the...

    Overly hot pool pump motor

My mistake, motors have overload protection. Baseboard heaters have thermocouples/thermal cut-offs. Anyway thanks for the help, I hope to pay it forward in the future. I am evaluating switching to a VSP, my fear is having the same issue although I don’t see how it would remain. Am I just being...

    Overly hot pool pump motor

Voltage reading while pump running is 246v line to line. Thermocouple is basically a temperature sensor within the motor casing that will cut power of the motor gets too hot to prevent a fire.

    Overly hot pool pump motor

I pulled the motor out from the pump and checked that the impeller spun freely. The part # is SP3010-C as suspected, see attached. Did not see any signs of scraping. With regards to Randrx2; I reduced flow on the supply side and noticed a small drop in amperage on the motor. Down to 9a from...

    Overly hot pool pump motor

Here is the timeline. I don’t have a pic of the original motor but I have the silver label pic attached . Pool was constructed in 2013 with the original Super II pump 1 1/2Hp SP3010X15. The impeller would have to be the SPX3010C as per manufacturer‘s spec. I replaced the motor in 2017 (I’m an...

    Overly hot pool pump motor

Thank you so much for the help! It got me thinking, could the pump have a design flaw? In a sense that the impeller was too large for the original Super Pump 2 motor? I mean, the theoretical calculations must have worked out during design, so how could my Super Pump 2 have burnt out on me? I...

    Overly hot pool pump motor

It might be my plan B. I would like to cut my energy bill by getting a dual-speed or VSP. Theoretically changing the impeller would reduce force on the motor?

    Overly hot pool pump motor

Thanks! I guess misunderstood the concept of head when I read up on it. Anyhow as I understand it, I can replace my motor and impeller (sized accordingly to motor Hp) or get a whole new pump. I will shop around and see what I can find. Thanks so much!

    Overly hot pool pump motor

Hello, I have a 14x28 rectangular pool, 3 1/2' to 6' depth. I calculated about 14,000 gallons and roughly 85' of head. Pool piping is 1 1/2” combo of rigid and flexible PVC except at the equipment where it is 2”. A Hayward C4030 cartridge filter and originally a Super pump 2, 1 1/2Hp which died...
