How Clear is TFP Clear? Let's See (Pics Only Please).

Here are some pictures of my TFP pool! Just went through a SLAM as detailed in another thread\. First picture is before I vacuumed today...if you look real close you can see a bug on the bottom (and my liner wrinkles...lol). Second picture is my vacuum at 9ish feet under water.

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Here are some pictures of my TFP pool! FC is down to about 12, so almost back to normal. First picture is before I vacuumed today...if you look real close you can see a bug on the bottom (and my liner wrinkles...lol). Second picture is my vacuum at 9ish feet under water.

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Well, we passed the OCLT last night (or the OCLC "Overnight Chlorine Loss Challenge" as my wife likes to call it :) Only lost .5ppm last night. CCs are .5 or less and the water has never been more crystal clear. I guess I'm done? As Red Beard suggested above, I will probably keep my SWG...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Yesterday was a good day. The pool continued to consume chlorine, but throughout the day it got more and more clear. By the afternoon the pool was crystal clear. My wife and I took a small swim when the levels were slightly under max...it felt great to dive into a clear blue pool again! I...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Woke up to a non-green mostly clear pool this morning. No visible algae deposits. Brushing kicked up a small amount, but it certainly feels like progress. Water is still a bit cloudy, especially after brushing so I am not out of the woods yet, but the SLAM seems to be working. Still losing...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Things are going well...I think. Yesterday, after my initial chlorine add, I needed another gallon after 2 hours. Later that night I added again. Interestingly, I did not lose much overnight, but then lost quite a bit again this morning. I checked CYA again just to double check and I think I...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

SLAM has begun. FC raised to 26 with a CYA of 60.

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Welp, I failed the OCLT! Lost 2.5 FC overnight. Looks like you were right on point duraleigh! Algae sucks, but at least I have a path forward now. I am going to procure some liquid chlorine today and then its slammer time. I don't know if this happened at the same time as the pool salt...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Is it possible to have algae without chlorine loss? Maybe its just getting started? Seems odd that I would have my first algae problem right after installing the SWG and dumping salt in. I apologize in advance and I am not questioning your advice...I know you have much more experience than...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

SoDel - Vacuum to waste is a good idea...especially since I have so much water from rain right now. I have already brushed this morning, but if it settles again, I will try! duraleigh - Believe it or not, I was actually hoping it was algae because I know (from TFP) how to solve that problem...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Hey everyone, Thanks again for all your help and sorry to be a pain! Its been another 2 days of brushing and filtering and it doesn't seem to be getting much better...maybe worse? I know you all have seen stuff like this before, but I am really freaking out...LOL I wish I had just stuck to...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Thanks for the help, just did another full test: FC: 6 CC: 0 pH: 7.7 TA: 70 CH: 350 CYA: 60 (I've been working on bringing this up slowly to 70 with the new SWG) SALT: 3500 I am not on well water, and I have not had any trouble with the water off of the hose in previous years...including a...

New SWG installation, bad pool salt

Hey everyone, First of all, I have to say thanks to TFP for all your help. We moved in to our new house 3 years ago and I became responsible for the pool in the backyard. The advice here has been invaluable and our pool has remained crystal clear and we have used it TONS. I have been using...

    First Pool Newbie

Just thought I would update my initial thread from last year. After going through the water exchange to get my CYA under control last year, the rest of the summer was smooth sailing. Our water was clear and the family enjoyed it all summer. The water exchange was a big deal and kind of...

    First Pool Newbie

Good news! I stopped the exchange yesterday afternoon, brushed and vacuumed the pool and the ran the pump all night. (Also had a lot of rain last night) Here are my latest test results: CYA: 60 FC: 22 CC: .5 CH: 275 TA: 70 PH: 7.5 The CYA test is a bit tricky...but I was reading consistently...

I agree about the mixing. I am exchanging 60%, 12k gallons to compensate a bit....hopefully I can get my numbers to a manageable level!

    First Pool Newbie

When I am done, and start the pump, how long should I wait to test again? Would running it overnight be sufficient? (18 hours or so)

    First Pool Newbie

Its been almost 13 hours. I just checked CH on the fill bucket (tap water) and from the deep end pumps: Fill bucket tap water CH: 175 Deep end pump discharge CH: 350 So either my initial test of my pool at 500 CH was wrong, or I have some dilution in my water exchange. Either way I am still...

    First Pool Newbie

Started the process. Wish me luck! Planning on exchanging 12k gallons, should take 30 hours....im a little nervous but it seems to be working well.

    First Pool Newbie

I'm concerned about draining/refilling because the pool already has a few wrinkles in the shallow end, very high water table and lots of rain lately. The exchange idea sounds great but I am not sure about which end to fill vs pump. Also, should I take into account any rain in the forecast for...

    First Pool Newbie

Water out of the hose is 70 degrees, pool water is 65 degrees. Filled a 5 gal bucket in 45 seconds, so I figure that is about 6.5 g/min or 390 gallons per hour. At that rate, to exchange 10k gallons would take ~26 hours.

    First Pool Newbie

So, just to clarify, the water exchange method is the recommended route? The water in the pool is fairly cold. I have an old pool thermometer which is showing 65 degrees. I plan on buying a newer thermometer today. I would imagine that the water from the hose is also fairly cold, but I have...
