New VS pump installed and now has small bubbles coming out of returns. ASAP fix or do I have some time?

Thank you for the reply! I had them come back out and install a union. The pump runs great at high speeds but when it switches back to low, it loses some water and I get air bubbles again. Switching back to higher speeds eliminates the air bubbles completely.

New VS pump installed and now has small bubbles coming out of returns. ASAP fix or do I have some time?

Just had a new variable speed pump installed on my inground pool. 3 hours later and there’s still tiny bubbles coming out of the returns. The water level is fine and I’m topping it off a little more just in case. No vortex in the skimmer. The pump basket looks good - no water bubbles at full...

Eye test not matching chemistry results

This past week I noticed some faint green / yellowish spots at the bottom of the pool, along with small white spots. They are pretty hard to spot, as evidenced by the photo below where you can only see faint discoloration. Either way, there are 3 of these spots that weren't there before. Now I...

How much chlorine is too much before closing?

Hi all. I had a trouble free first summer of pool ownership thanks to this forum - clear water, no algae and a newfound understanding of chemistry. Then 3 days before closing I noticed a small green stain in the deep end. I went a little heavy handed and brought chlorine up to about 27ppm on...

    Replace SharkVac power cord?

Not yet, I'm being stubborn. Literally just started wiggling the cord and straightening out any knots in the wire. So far it's working about 80% of the time. Next year I think I'll splurge for a new dolphin!

    Replace SharkVac power cord?

Having a funky issue. I inherited a Hayward SharkVac (not sure how old but not one they sell currently). It still works pretty well, but lately it stops mid cycle and I have to "jiggle" the power cord and it'll kick back on. It doesn't trip the GFI outlet and I don't see any tears or visible...

pH hasn't moved in 4 weeks?

Ha, I apologize if that comes off as a brag (or worse... a humble brag!) With all the guides saying to test pH daily I assumed I'd be adjusting it much more. But if I'm lucky I'll take that too...

pH hasn't moved in 4 weeks?

First, I want to thank everyone here for making my first month of pool ownership a great success. Everything has been really smooth (aside from the opening SLAM stress) to start the year. Weird question, but should pH be so stable? After the initial balance, my pH has been 7.6 every day for...

CYA Troubleshooting - Levels still low

Nope, I did all my tests prior to the rain. I haven't backwashed or drained since adding.

CYA Troubleshooting - Levels still low

Hi all, Could use some guidance troubleshooting my CYA levels. I started the year at 0, with no cloudiness in my k2006 test and confirmed by pool store test. I've added nearly 4lbs to my 12k gallon vinyl pool which I thought would get me to the 35-40ppm range, but my test still shows it below...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

Update: Passed OCLT yesterday and finished all SLAM requirements! Thanks for all your help and guidance. I did all the tests again today and I feel pretty good about all levels for safe swimming, though I can probably get TA down a bit and pH up a bit over the next few days. I'm attempting to...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

Thank you I appreciate that offer! Here are some pics of the sand filter/pump setup. I'm pretty dumb when it comes to the mechanical side of the pool, I have a lot more research to do. Sidenote: any idea what the two return valves on the bottom do? I'm told they have been stuck like that...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

Quick update: First, thank you for all your help and preaching patience. I've updated my testing methodology / speed based on zea3's advice and confirmed it by watching some Taylor vids on YouTube. I feel much more confident in my test results now. After CC peaking and staying between 6-7 for...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

For testing, I bought a k2006 and have been following the FAS-DPD instructions. I grab water from arm's length deep I'm the pool, add 10ml to the tube, then add two dippers of the dpd powder (always turns pink after the first dipper). Then I add the first reagent drop by drop until it goes...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

I'll look into what the pool company who helped me yesterday added. I asked what they were using and all they said was "5 gallons of liquid shock" - I assumed bleach but they weren't specific. Thanks for the great follow up question to research.

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

Thanks for the info. I didn't realize it could take that long to SLAM. I'll be a bit more patient in that case :) My filter pressure jumped from 30 to 50 twice yesterday when I opened, and again to 45 overnight, promoting the 3 backwashes. It has since stayed stable at 32 since this morning, so...

A little frustrated - help me trust the process

First pool opening for a newbie owner. I've read pool school cover to cover twice coming into the season, picked up a Taylor test kit and have tried my best to be diligent with testing. Still, I can't seem to get my CC to budge down and feel a little flustered that it's so high ( >6 almost every...
