How do I fix this?? Foam Ice Bergs plus Green

20 mule team borax. There's no water rationing here, but draining and filling would probably cost me $200 in water so I'd like to avoid it if possible... my liner and pool is about 15 years old and I've read a lot of horror stories about draining old pools causing more structural problems, or...

    Party!

Remember urine and body oils destroy chlorine - I'd add a bit before hand and then shock it after to be safe.

    1st time pool owner

If you really need to vacuum that frequently, you may have a hole in your filter media. When you vacuum, it may just temporarily look clean while the dirt is suspended in the water, but it will eventually settle to the floor again. When my DE filter had a dime sized hole in the grid I had a...

How do I fix this?? Foam Ice Bergs plus Green

Ok, please don't scold me for getting where I am, I know I should know better than to just open my pool and dump chemicals in it before testing... ... but I need to know is how to fix this chemical toilet I've created. To start, when I opened, I was looking at black / brown poop water. I've...

What can my leak be from? Leaking 2" a day

I was told that 1" a day would even be a lot for evaporation (I do have a heater that keeps the temperature above 80 however...) - this is during periods of no swimming.

What can my leak be from? Leaking 2" a day

Hi everyone, So I am at the point in my diagnosis that I have drained the water to a few inches below all returns and skimmer ports. I have no main drain. I am losing 2" of water every day still. I have tried using food coloring along various areas of the liner seams to see if it gets sucked...

Evaporation or leaking? - Large Water Loss

OK, so I've been reading a lot, now I'm testing to see whether the water level drops during the day, or if only at night (when my pump is off to not bother sleeping neighbors).. I believe it is leaking at night when the pump is off now because this morning when I went out is when i noticed the...

Evaporation or leaking? - Large Water Loss

Hi Everyone, I built a solar heater this year out of 200 feet of copper black copper pipe and a utility pump, and my pool has been remaining at a toasty 88 degrees over the last few weeks. However, I am socked at the rate of water loss. I know warm water evaporates faster, but this fast? Is it...

How do I stop pump from losing prime when cleaning basket?

Re: How do I stop pump from losing prime when cleaning baske All I have is the multi-port valve on my DE filter to control flow. When I empty my pump basket, I turn the multiport valve to "closed" this prevents water from draining out of the reservoir and keeps my prime. Just remember to turn...

Pentair FNS plus has a small leak. Any ideas?

How much lube did you use? This year when putting everything together, I cleaned all of the connecting surfaces of both tanks, and the o-ring. I put it back together forgetting to lube it up and it was leaking. I took it apart, lubed up the o-ring real well and put it back together. Still...

Replacing Pool Pump - Most Energy Efficient

Wow, you guys run your pumps a lot. I run my pump once a day for about 2-3 hours after I get home from work. If it needs to be cleaned, I drop the suction cleaner in and let it go for 6 hours. Never had a problem... If it's a swimming day, I might keep it running more.

Problem with New Poolvergnuegen 2x suction

I have just purchased a Poolvergnuegen 2x suction. I have been pretty amazed at how well this thing tackles huge leaves, twigs, worms, chunks of mulch... But I'm having one problem with it. It works great in the deep end of the pool, however, in the shallow end its showing a flaw. When it...

The Zodiac "Barracuda" MX8 Suction Side Cleaner

MX 8 Vs Kreepy Krauly Classic So I've been reading a lot of reviews on the MX 8, and a lot of people here are raving about them, but a lot of people on amazon.com are not. I've read about 5 pages of this thread, and from what I can tell, they seem pretty temperamental with the suction valve...

    Kreepy Krauly vs?

What kind of pool wouldnt work with a side suction cleaner? :? I manually vacuumed by pool all last year, there's a disc that the hose connects to that gets sucked on top of the skimmer bucket, the vacuum line becoming the only source of intake for the pump. I've thought about robots, but...

    Pentair Kreepy Krauly Sand Shark

Does the sand shark climb walls? My Kreely Krauly Classic from childhood would climb and clean the walls. I am considering a new vacuum for my new home, but it did not look like the sand shark was capable of climbing walls or going over uneven surface changes gracefully. Or am I wrong?

    Kreepy Krauly vs?

When I was growing up we had the Kreepy Krauly pool cleaner. It worked great for several years, though it seemed to get stuck in one particular corner every once and a while. http://www.amazon.com/Pentair-Kreepy-K7 ... 795&sr=8-1 I am wondering if the cost is worth it? I see a lot of other...

Keeping clean until winterization? Tips and Suggestions

I live in Maine, past September 15th, there are usually no warm swimming days, actually it is very likely that this will be the last weekend I'll use it  Sucks that we have a short pool season in Maine. Next year I will be building a solar heater to try and extend it by a month or so...

Keeping clean until winterization? Tips and Suggestions

So it's getting too cold outside to want to use my pool for swimming. I have some questions about keeping it clean until closing time. It seems like a pain to be cleaning a pool when you are no longer swimming in it and I'd like to know what people normally do for the easiest maintenance until...

CYA doesnt build up as fast as people think??

Either my Taylor test kit came with defective CYA measurement tests or CYA naturally declines or does not increase as fast as people say it might. I used about 20lbs of Cal-Hypo to open my pool and have been using about 1lb of Dichlor / week for chlorinating and my test kit still reads 0 CYA...

Thanks TFP! Before and after pic :)

I would just like to thank trouble free pools and everyone in here for helping me with my questions. Since starting, I have learned the BBB's, went from green and completely opaque (Couldnt even see second stair) to crystal clear in a couple days, and took apart and patched my DE grid because...

    How often do you shock?

It also depends on what you consider "shocking". My mom called anytime she added chlorine to her pool "shocking" and only did it once a week. Our ionizer took care of the rest.

    bleach spots after opening

I'd say its also possible that if your jets are pointing up too much, just causing surface slow but not mixing underneath, there's certainly an ability for a "dead zone" to appear.. Still seem's strange to me. I'd assume what probably happened is that SOMETHING in your swamp was growing and...

    Ugh. Poop in the Pool

Yes, use the pool calc. If your test strip gives you an accurate reading at ~1-5 use the pool calc to go from there. Thats what I did, and I successfully shocked my pool to clarity while I wait for my test kit. Shock at night and your chlorine will be more effective. Using a majority of your...

Best times to turn off the pump??

I have a smart meter, so my electricity is most expensive during "the heat of the day". 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. my electric costs 1/2 as much... Just wondering if having it off the rest of the time will give me algae problems or if people normally do this.
