Opening up early to get conversion started

Just a little update now that I’ve had things dialed in for awhile. Initially I had my CYA on the low end of the range which was allowing for some FC loss prematurely. Boosting the CYA has made a world of difference. Now that thing s have been smooth sailing I only add about 4 cups of 12.5% LC...

    Conversion

Updates? I completed my conversion early spring after using CDX for a number of years. I definitely think at least 50% drain should be added to the conversion process instructions if CDX has been used.

Opening up early to get conversion started

Alright, now that the filter is all back together and running, given the amount of water I exchanged should I basically adjust pH if needed and do another OCLT before adding the CYA? Or should I just boost the FC and go with it.

Looking much better. Filter all cleaned out with no issues. Heading to Lowe’s to see if I can find a tank / cylinder stand since mine is broken. As soon as that’s running I’ll fire it all up.

Opening up early to get conversion started

I drained down to the bottom step. Definitely significant. Had to call it quits on vacuuming out the filter for tonight due to rain and starting to get dark. I’ll pick back up in the morning. On my downtime I just went back through the skimmer baskets and returns, cleaning everything and soaking...

I’m going ahead and draining some water. I’m running the water hose at the same time to help dilute as much as I can. Once it’s drained down I’ll go ahead get the filter changed over while it’s filling up.

I did notice I’m getting some sand accumulating on the steps and bottom. Is it possible it’s getting pulled from the filter while recirculating and that’s where the Baquacil is coming from? Or are we totally certain it’s completely gone?

I know if I replace 5,000 gallons it will only cost $22, but I don’t have a companion meter so the sewage cost will be double that because the county thinks it’s going to waste. Still that’s maybe a better option.

Is it possible that the 4ppm of Baquacil holding on could tint the water that much from the chlorine?

Ok! So finally passed OCLT. FC: 14 CC: 1 Pool is quite clear still. I guess the other fun part of hacking up the previous homeowners pvc job awaits me. Instead of running unions, they used the pvc fittings and cemented the tubes to the fittings.

Using a Taylor k-2006 and OCLT has been consistently dropping from 15 down to 12.5 a couple days in a row. It has rained some on and off the last 3 days though. I Really appreciate all your help guys

Opening up early to get conversion started

It might cost me an extra $100 by the time it’s all said and done. Heck, I’ve used 31 gallons of 10% LC at this point. 10 cases cost about $210 when I stocked up on it. Luckily I already had the sand from when the pool store told me 2 years ago I needed to change the sand every other year, I...

I think the only chemical with notable metal content is the algidefense, which is 35% zinc. It’s still a very small pouch. If it does come down to water exchange, a 12,000 gallon pool is nothing compared to when my irrigation was leaking and the county said I was using 55,000 gallons in 1 month.

Never dealt with algae, I could make a whole box last all season. I can run a little experiment if you think that could cause it, I still have 3 or 4 packets left from last season.
