    Helping out pool cleaning

Yes, the algae is visible in the robot cleaner and the baskets and the CYA is high, so can't do the SLAM process with that high CYA. I do wonder how do we know if we have algae if we can't see it, say for my own pool. Is it recommended to do the overnight test periodically? Maddie, The pool...

    Helping out pool cleaning

So then a couple of questions come to mind, the first is how do I know that I have algae if my CC is 0 besides just physically seeing it? I could do the overnight test but then does that mean that I should be doing the overnight test periodically? Second question: Do I still need to drain the...

    Emptying and refilling pool

An update on this. I called a company and they removed the calcium buildup, they did a good job. They drained the pool though so I didn't have to do it myself. Once the pool was filled they added liquid chlorine and CYA, so now to monitor the chemical levels and adjust as necessary. Thanks...

    Emptying and refilling pool

Thanks for the info! Yes, that is CH. Why is it important to drain and refill quickly? My thought was to drain, have a company clean the scale buildup, and when they are done refill with water, but is that not a good idea? The municipality requires the water to be drained to the sewer which I...

    Black spots on my cleaner

Has anybody seen black spots in their cleaner? I am wondering if it is black algae, I don't see it anywhere else in the pool, at least not in visible areas, just in the pleated seal of the cleaner. I can't even scratch it off. FC: 5 CC: 0 pH: 7.7 TA: 125 CH: 1150 CYA: 140

    Hayward W560 leaf canister

I have a Hayward W560 in line leaf canister that I installed in between my Xtreme suction cleaner and hose rotator. When I install the canister everything is under water so that there is no air in the hose or canister but as soon as I turn on the pump I see air bubbles getting into the...

Can't bring down pH and TA

Thanks for the explanation! I just tested my incoming water and it is high in TA and pH. pH is ~7.7 and TA ~150. It makes sense why both of those numbers do go up over time. The one thing that does not make much sense is that my pH does not change when I add the chlorine and acid. I test...

Can't bring down pH and TA

Hello all, I am using 10% liquid chlorine for sanitation and I add it every week and since my pH (7.8) and TA (125) is higher than I would like I also add 14.5% muriatic acid to bring those down. I thought that I would only had to add acid once and when my pH and TA levels were to a desirable...

    Sanitation in Phoenix metro area

Gene, this makes sense. My pool is 5 feet in the deepest part so CH may be over 400. I ran the CH test again today and got 390, I will get the speedstir and try with that. I do use poolmath, both in my phone and in my laptop, depending on where I am at. Thanks both for the advice on liquid...

    Sanitation in Phoenix metro area

Thanks all for the inputs. Here are the replies to your comments/questions: Rob: Thanks for the links. I find pool school to be very easy to understand and the approach seems very doable. My test kit is a Taylor K2006, just the 3/4oz bottles, no C in the name. A couple of questions: Why...

    Sanitation in Phoenix metro area

I live in the Phoenix metro area and I wonder how other owners in this or similar areas keep their pools sanitized, mainly between liquid chlorine and trichlor tabs. The service company that I was using to maintain my pool only used trichlor and it seems that a lot of people that I talk to in...
