DIY Vinyl IGP - Yes or No? Why?

Can we do a vinyl liner IGP with a fiberglass add-on tanning ledge outside the pool perimeter that overflows into the pool? Also we have dogs, is vinyl over steel steps a bad idea? Should we go with the preformed steps to be safe from dogs damaging steps.

DIY Vinyl IGP - Yes or No? Why?

For perspective the house is 98' end to end, and 48' wide. We have a lot of room to work with in the rear of the house Pool size is what were trying to decide, we have a decent size family... four sons, one is married, and three grankids so far. We live in a really rural area, nearest full...

DIY Vinyl IGP - Yes or No? Why?

It's pretty well wide open, no serious elevation issues to deal with.

DIY Vinyl IGP - Yes or No? Why?

My only concern is dealing with groundwater. Were sitting on all grey clay, not sure how deep but I know it's down to six feet at least because thats how deep my perk test pits were when we built.

Liner diagram on box does not match planned pool

That liner is 3'4" at both ends with 5'6 in the middle. You're 5'6 depth is reached at 17' from both ends giving you 10 ft of flat bottom in the center. That's how I read it, anyway.

Sorry Sorry, need to change that... our AGP bit the dust several years ago.

DIY Vinyl IGP - Yes or No? Why?

Wondering if a DIY build with a kit from somewhere like Pool Wharehouse is a good option vs the cost of paying a pool store to install. Can I really save enough to make the headache worth it, or is it as straight forward as Pool Wharehouse makes it seem?

Pool Size.... 30'x60' too big? Other questions as well.

Am I correct that the deep end has to be 24ft from the back wall to the start of the transition? If so, would a 20x50 be good, that would still give us about equal space in both the deep and shallow ends. Is minimum 3ft at shallow end sloping to 5ft ar beginning of transition a good slope...

Pool Size.... 30'x60' too big? Other questions as well.

I'm in south Arkansas, about one mile from the AR/LA line. What about an L with a 20x30 shallow end and a 20x20 deep end?

Pool Size.... 30'x60' too big? Other questions as well.

Ha! No, I'm not sure.... my wife agrees with you, she says I tend to overbuild everything. I might could compromise with a 20'x40'.

Pool Size.... 30'x60' too big? Other questions as well.

Planning stage, decided on an inground liner pool. We have a decent size family, 4 sons, two are married, three grankids so far. I'm thinking 30'x60' with a tanning ledge at th shallow end and steps on both sides of the shallow end....maybe seats in the sides of the deep end, or corners of the...

Suggestions please - concrete, liner, fiberglass, or AGP

Ground is grey clay (crawfish love it) deep south Arkansas. What would be our best choice, and a rough estimate for complete install including concrete decking surounding the pool. Weve previously had a 32ft x 54" AGP that ended in disaster when the wall rusted behind liner, busted, and...

Recent pool builds in South Arkansas

After a major catastrophe with an AGP a couple years back, we've decided to replace with an in-ground pool. Considering a 20x40 vinyl liner with stamped or coated concrete decking. If anyone in South Arkansas (El Dorado area) has built within the last five years, I'd love to hear from you...

Enough force to snap sch40 pvc like a twig when it washed away the sand filter and pump. I wasn't going to replace it after seeing what could happen. After a season off, I know this is probably something that would never happen twice to even 1 out of 1000, and I have a nearly 5k deck sitting...

By the time it crashed there was no parking lot, the guy filed bankruptcy, was arrested, and was found guilty of nine cases of theft and consumer fraud....which included us. Far as I know, no one ever saw a dime of restitution. Here's a link to the thread with pics of the wreckage...

We live in south Arkansas. The pool store I talked to today said installation would be an extra $1,500 I've checked poolstore.com and poolsuplyworld and both have what appears to be good pools with good warranties for much less than the local retailers are selling them.

So, we had an AGP for two seasons until the wall rusted between liner and wall at skimmer and split, wrecking the whole pool. That pool was installed by an installer hired by the pool store we purchased it from. We went last season with no pool and now we're ready for another. The pool we had...

    AGP Catastrophic Failure - Pics

Did those waves have sharp jagged steel, concrete, 200 lb sand filter, pump, and washed into a heavily wooded tree-line?

    AGP Catastrophic Failure - Pics

Pool was perfectly level. I know what happened to ours may be rare but it has me concerned enough that i'll never own another AGP again. If you look in the pic you can see rust on a couple of the other panels. There was never a noticeable leak or corrosion on the outside of the panels. I kept...

    AGP Catastrophic Failure - Pics

Not much chance since the pool builder we bought it from never delivered any info or warranty info on the pool, there were other issues as well that resulted in a law suit. that we won.....but have yet to collect a dime. He's out of buisness now since our case was the first of 9 against him for...

    AGP Catastrophic Failure - Pics

Bought this pool in May 2011. 32' x 52" Have had crystal clear water for the two years thanks to the info from this site and the pool calculator. My wife went out to put bleach in yesterday and this is what she found. I'm just thankful it happened when no one was in it or near it. Looks like...

    Skimmer and pump leaking

Nope, no label on the pump or the pool. The sand filter has one, but again it's a replacement from the original. There is a plate on the motor for the pump, but it's just the motor specs. I'll try to get some pics in a few days after Isaac blows out.

    Skimmer and pump leaking

That's one of my problems. The guy that sold us the pool never gave us any documentation on anything, pool, liner, pump, skimmer, sand filter. The pump motor is a GE motor but other than that, I have no idea. know the skimmer is a wide mouth but don't have a clue what brand it is. The sand...

    Skimmer and pump leaking

I have leaks at the skimmer and around the shaft on the pump. Can I order some form of gasket kit to replace the gasket/gaskets around the skimmer? What size pump would be best for a 32'x54" round above ground? Do they make a two speed 115v pump?

    Winterizing in the deep South?

So do I only run the pump when it gets to freezing temps and no other time? Also, do I still need to put a solid cover over the pool or just a leaf net? Will I still need to vaccum in the winter? Sorry for all the questions.

    Winterizing in the deep South?

I live in deep South AR, right on the LA line, we do get some nights down to around 20 but they are few and far between wtih the day temps usually rising above freezing afterwards. Do I need to do all of the steps for winterizing or can I just clean, algae shock, and cover? Will I still need...
