    Scale?

Yes, it's right at the water line. Will have to get an acid brush...this is the first I've heard of one. I'll get a squirt bottle and mix the acid 3:1 to see if we can get it off. Our softener isn't tied into the outside water spigots and we have pretty hard water here.

    Scale?

Is this white spot scale? We have a spot like that on every grout line between each tile. Gentle scrubbing with the nylon or wire brushes doesn't help.

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

Thanks :) We added a pound of CYA and will monitor to get it to 70 ppm, as well as checking the FC level to determine when to turn the SWCG back on. Appreciate the guidance; we've learned a lot through this process the help here.

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

The range for calcium is 350 - 450; ours is 550, so I thought it needed to come down? Shouldn't all the numbers be in the ideal ranges? Or is the CSI number more important than the individual ranges? Super helpful tip, thank you!

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

Also, the SWCG has been off since we began the SLAM; we should leave it off until we get the FC level within range, correct?

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

So we shouldn't worry about the CH or Salt not being in the target range for now?

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

Okay, test results are entered and saved. I did not see a place to save the Borates in the CSI table, but that is about 20 right now. Edit: Found the place to turn on Borate tracking.

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

We only tested the FC, CC and CYA this morning; I think I'd read the pH testing wasn't reliable with the high levels of chlorine during SLAM. We'll go ahead and test the rest. I don't see a save button on the PoolMath page....am I overlooking it?

    Chemical Balance After SLAM

We completed our SLAM and passed the OCLT this morning. Water is clear and CC was about 0.3. The article on SLAMing says to let the FC drift back down but I was wondering if we should do anything with other chemical levels at this point. Should we use Pool Math and follow the guidance from...

    Fighting Black Algea

Tonight the pH is back up to 8; TA is at 90. I don't understand why are we having such a hard time bringing the pH down?

    Fighting Black Algea

@IceShadow, thank you. TA is still 110--math says to add 27 oz, so we'll do that and test pH again tomorrow. @frogabog roger that and thanks. i've done a lot of reading in the last few days, must have mixed up a couple articles. appreciate the feedback :)

It was a typo, sorry still getting used to the abbreviations. We added 5 cups of muriatic acid yesterday and wondering if we should add the same today since the PH is still not down to 7.2.

    Fighting Black Algea

We added 5 cups of CYA yesterday and the PH today is still at 7.8. Should we add another 4-5 cups?

    Fighting Black Algea

Sadly, we are confident it is algae, definitely slimy and scraped off with a fingernail, and green when rubbed on a white sheet of paper. We will add the acid tonight to lower the PH and check tomorrow to see if it is at 7.2 then start the SLAM. Thank you for the quick reply!!

So glad to have found these forums and appreciate all the info available to help pool owners! We put in a 10,000 gallon SWG pool with Pebble Tech finish about 3 years ago (pic attached below post). We are first time pool owners and the builder wasn't great about education and care info...
