Pool Looking Green - Opening Tomorrow

It's like closing the fence gate after the neighborhood dogs got in. Too little too late. It might even be worse. And that one is copper based so its a double no no.

    White Cloudy Pool

Yes to both questions. If you can see the bottom for swimmers safety, you can swim at slam and its less harsh than tap water with 0 CYA and 1 FC. Tap water may have up to 4 FC. Think that through. Maybe don't take a shower. :ROFLMAO: FC loss may be all over the place...

Just opened pool, Ph > 10 and CC = 5.5

I don't believe the CCs. It takes FC to make CCs and they burn off rather quickly. Have you been adding FC ? Is the cell working yet or is it still too cold ? Are you sure the chemicals above are all the pool guys added to the pool ?

That's a start point. You have a green pool which will be on the higher side of the slam spectrum to clear.

    Calculating Volume of Irregular Pool

This Irregular shape calculator is cool. Take a bunch of measurements of the pool then go to the calculator. Click the up arrow on the left side of the graph to add as many points as you need to make the basic curves and it'll nail the surface area. The grid layout will help with the...

    18 x 33 x 56" Semi-In Ground NJ

You want to remain free and clear above minimum at all times. If you touch minimum you may get burned, so treat it like lava and admire it from afar. Give it plenty of leeway just in case today has a bit more UV burnoff then yesterday. On a fresh fill its probably unnecessary. It may...

Need help with Lights! New Pool Build in Minnesota. First Time Builder, need your awesome advice! Pick the plans apart!

I think you're our guinea pig here. I have seen considerably different lumens depending on the brand, but don't know how much I believe the generic brands claims. 3 could be obnoxious or not enough depending on said claims.

$30 Amazon Gift card for a legit Pool cleaning survey

Google search AI quoted us the other day when looking something up. 'As per this TFP thread' or such. Dang it GOOGLE !!! I was trying to confirm what that thread said, not find it. :laughblue:

She's Back! And ready for Season 2...

Yeah. You know how much that bad boy dances around when being enjoyed to the fullest. If that creased bar lets go, the pool inhabitants will be out in the yard before they know what even happened. The broken/bent bar may impale someone on their way out, or smash them right in the...

Do I need a regular cover along with a safety cover?

Members have had success using closed cell foam backer under the cover perimeter. It adds just a little tension to help keep the cover from billowing in the wind so crud can blow in. Then even if the cover does billow a little, there is a barrier. A 600ft reel of 1 inch foam rope was...

How to get CYA to dissolve?

When I fired up pool #2, I had 4 small bags from the same new pallet they brought down and opened for me. One of the bags was mostly bricked and took a couple of days to mush up. Moisture must have gotten in there somehow and the other bags did fine. I blame pinholes or condensation...

How to get CYA to dissolve?

Here's the trick. Walk away for a full day. If it doesnt squish out, try the next day. When it takes longer to dissolve in cold water, the UV isn't bad yet. Even during the season, so long as you have some in there to start, there is no imminent danger letting the CYA soak for a...

    TF-Pro Salt

Yes. Except you generated chlorine, not salt. But you unplugged the cell now, needing FC added all day, because of tonight's test. So just making sure your current FC is high enough to make it through today's loss before tonight.

TF Pro Smart Stir LED not working

OK great. Most of the time the questions have the simplest answers. Bring the sample inside and test at your kitchen table on the early mornings. I still like the LED inside, and its unfortunate yours broke, but there's no need to test in the dark / cold / wet outside.

Is the FC adequate for today's loss ? I would have left it on for the day. My standalone IC60 runs a self check every 12 hours. I don't know if the automation uses that or takes more measurements but obviously it hasn't got the memo yet. Lol.

Can you go TOO big with your filter?

I had 8.5 years on mine when we moved and they were going strong. It should be fairly obvious when its time. The rubber ends crumble. The pleats don't hold their form some time after the bands break. Rips/tears. Or the PSI remains high after cleaning them.

    Cya plan for future

+1. Can confirm locally in full sun. I experimented last year with 80 and 90 and saw no difference from 70. Also +1, but not just up north, everywhere. Pretty much we all get lulled into the CYA remaining solid and then WHAM. We see the FC loss once the CYA dipped low enough to 50...

We just had this problem where the SWG turned back on overnight. (I'm guessing it resumed the schedule at midnight). Trace the cord back and unplug it. The nut turns a half turn or so by hand and then it pops straight out.

    Copper 11.8%

Are you saying that your FC was too low based upon your CYA level ? Because it is now too. You lose up to 4 ppm a day in sunny FL. Unless adding chlorine to the pool is your day job, you simply can't maintain 1.5 to 3ppm per day.

    Copper 11.8%

You can win a dozen times at Russian Roulette too, until you don't. If you don't perfectly balance the copper additions with rain overflow/ draining, and you can't even test it to know how you're doing, it will eventually bite you. If you maintained a proper CYA/FC level, the water...

So. Rules are rules. If there is light in the sky there probably is UV hitting the pool. It's not much, especially this time of year up north, but its there. Now. IMO, if you were that close to failing and a teeny tiny bit of evening or super early morning UV failed your OCLT...

10 to a teen. Sometimes I catch it at a high teen. You need to go back to the basics. Tap water with 0 CYA and up to 4 FC has many times the active HOCL content of our pools, even when we slam at 40% of our CYA. I bring my pool to 28 FC for parties and people comment how nice it is...
