    DE Startup Question

I was afraid you were gonna say that! :-D Oh well. I guess I'll know better next time. I do have one other thing that I have been wondering about. Maybe you can clear it up for me. I notice that sometime the back pressure doesn't go all the way up to "backwash pressure", but yet the return...

    DE Startup Question

This is my first winter with my new pool. Since I have totally different equipment than I have ever had before, I am a little lost on Spring startup. I have the intelliflo (VF not VS) pump and a DE filter. In the past, I have always had sand filters and standard pumps. Spring wasn't too bad...

    Pump, DE questions

I have the VS 4 speed pump, and he is putting the VF drive on it. Supposedly they are the same pump/motor. Just has a different drive to run it. Dont know I'll find out when he brings the new one out. UPDATE: He brought out the new drive and put it on my pump/motor and it instantly tripped the...

How To Know Where Your Underground Pipes Are Located?

Two inches a night! One would sure think you could go for the puddle of standing water. Even if you switch your vlave to only the deep end and really force the water out. I would think it would puddle up. Anyway, I have a very "primitive" way of finding underground pipes/lines. It's...

    Pump, DE questions

Re: Pump, DE questions - UPDATED 6/10 UPDATE Pool builder says his supplier is swapping out the drive on my VS for a VF drive. He said they are the same motor/pump - just a different drive. He is bringing it out tomorrow and swapping them free of charge. I had pretty much let it die since you...

    TA question

I was going by this number 3 is reduced chlorine usage. I understand the pH rise inherent with SWG, but I am just trying to make it less frequent. It sounds like I should just lower the TA and monitor my pH and see where that takes me. That may be all I need. I know my CYA is low which is why...

    TA question

I'm a little confused. I have a SWG and I am about to start the borates "upgrade" routine. The first step says to get your TA right. The Pool School also says with SWG to keep it 60-90, but the aeration page for lowering TA says only do it if you are having problems. I am not having any trouble...

    Pump, DE questions

UPDATE. Pool builder is really trying to make sure I am satisfied. I would like your opinions please. Offered to swap to the VF pump if I pay the difference. He says his cost difference is $279. Or go with a controller box of some sort. (not sure what is available) Or he would swap out the DE...

    Pump, DE questions

Please dont take this as argumentative, but my pump doesnt start back up at a fairly high speed. It goes right back to where it was when the timer cut the juice off - very low speed. My filter is a pentair 48 fns plus or something like that. Am I correct about the DE falling off the grids when...

    Pump, DE questions

Okay, been a while since I posted. Got new pool put in and all WAS well. I got the Intelliflo pump and a DE filter. Here is my problem. I put the pump on low speed for circulation. From my understanding, on a DE filter you need to put the pump in high speed at first to coat the grids and then...

    K. That makes sense. Not much of a winter in TX, but I get it. What about the kits? I'm sure there are a handful of places that everyone here likes. Any ideas? UW

Digger - check Cement work - check Laser Leverl - not a problem Pool Crete work - not so much (only hiccup so far) Just dug a pond. Sugar sand was 'bout 15' down. Never really found the water table. What's a rock? Thanks again, UW

    New Pool Question

Those thoughts are kinda the way I felt about it. Think I'll go more the "traditional" route. I like returns AND the main drain. Although, I am curious, why would you want to run the pump when the water is below skimmer level anyway.? Never crossed my mind. With all that being said, is there a...

    New Pool Question

EXCELLENT INFO! Thanks. I have 2 more questions and then I promise I will leave you all alone (for a little bit). The guy also recommended an Aqua Genie. It seems like that would probably work fine on this pool. What are your thoughts? The other one is - he said unless local codes call for it, I...

    New Pool Question

I have decided you are right about that. Question, though, there is a high perf and a regular and the Intellipro (sta-Rite brand). Should I basically go with which ever one I can get the cheapest? Since I have about decided to build/contract this thing myself  , I can use some of the...

Thank you very much budster. That's what I needed to know. Again, thank you to all for the info. It helped a lot. I dont know what's gotten in to me, but for some reason I have this itch to buy the kit and build/contract it myself. Suicide, I know. So I am sure I will have a ton of questions...

    New Pool Question

Got all that, but after doing some checking I found that the 3/4 Whisperflo is a 115V only. According to the specs on Pentair's site, it will draw 4.7 amps at low speed where the 1HP is a 230V and will only draw 3 amps at low speed. So I would be better off (efficiency-wise) to go with the 1HP...

    New Pool Question

Hey all, Posted something similar in another thread, but I thought I would ask here as well. Getting bids for new pool (16x32 diving grecian). I have estimated the capacity at about 20k gallons. Both builders are bidding a DE filter, but it seems awfully big (FNS Plus 48). I want DE, but do I...

Okay, so dont worry much about the 90s, but be sure I get the 2". Got it. Definitely want full runs on the plumbing. With a Jandy valve on each. Not real sure what high head means, but I assume that means a lot of pressure. Nor do I know what an infloor system is. It will be just a plain pool...

Well, it's been a while since I was involved with you all (other place). Anyway, sold the house so had no pool, but NOW we got moved in the new house and are getting bids for pools. Last time I knew nothing and just had them build it. Luckily, he did it right and was a great guy so I was very...
